Nice sound of a GE, I think Brush Traction in the UK should develop a Class 60/3 based on the Class 92 design and use these GE power units in them. Also DB Schenker should replace the Mirrlees Blackstone "toasters" with GE power units. I think I have just become a GE fan and its better than hearing "ying ying ying" from a Class 66.
otef434, you seem like an ass. I work for a railroad and no you arent supposed to turn everyone near the tracks in and the loco in the video is an ES44AC UP refers to them as C45ACCTE's not C44AC-CTE's the C means 6 axle the 45 due to the hp rating and the fact they use C44 designation on their AC4400's and the CTE for controlled tractive effort thats just their designation not GE's so First get your facts straight and second why comment just to be a jerk?
@502nuts I am a locomotive engineer, and yes, anyone who does not belong on the property must be turned in according to standing orders. Second, CTE is software that GE devloped, and installed. Quite a few UP C44AC's were upgraded with that software. All this referenced from UP produced documentation from GE Transportation.
@502nuts All I have to go by is the notes, guides, and bulletins I get for operation of these and other locos. When the paperwork says C45AC-CTE, it's all I have to go by. And it makes sense since some units have had CTE added to them after the fact. And, GE installed that software. Sorry old sock.
Second, the instructions and general orders are very clear. If you are on the property, and you do not belong there, inform the proper authority.

First and foremost, you are trespassing. If the engineer in question did not turn you in, he is not following standing instructions and subject to discipline
Second, UP does not have any models of locomotives with the designation ES. The unit is marked C44AC-CTE.
Actually I wasnt truspassing. There was a public road right next to the tracks, but it does go very close to them... I would consider him very nice, and in no need of "desciplin." I think its still basically an ES44AC, but thanks for the info!
@jimmyp42002 When you are as big as Union Pacific, you can do anything you desire. That you personally do not like it, means nothing to them or their shareholders.
@otef434 ah yes, that would be UP's identifier, but according to GE, they still are ES44's. Same thing applies to the SD90's and C44-9W's. I honestly stopped caring about UP when they removed the red stripe and replaced it with a yellow reflector bar to "improve visibility of the units".
@jimmyp42002 The red stripe replacement was not UP's desire, but the FRA. It was believed at the time to remain consistant with the reflective stripes on all cars. That rule can be found at 49 CFR 224. Note that AAR insists upon yellow, while the rule gives the option of white or yellow.
@otef434 YOU ARE IDIOT YOU CLEARLY DONT KNOW RULES THIS IS A SELF LOAD TEST AND BTW ITS NOT C44AC-CTE IT C45ACCTE GET IT RIGHT ALSO IT STANDs fOR Es44AC....
Lets calm down a bit... First off, I am not an idiot and I think its safe to say that whomever that was directed at isn't either... Not knowing a few facts doesn't make you an idiot at all. Second, this was not a self load test. I know that as a fact. I was there... I walked up to the engineer, told him who I was and what I do with model trains. I asked if he would be willing to rev up the loco so I could get some good sound recordings, which is what he did. Have a blessed new year!
@NSmodeler24 ummm im not calling you the idiot the guy who was flaged otef434 ik your not an idiot they guy above doesnt know a thing about locomotives....
@railfanman I've wondered that myself. Seems to be just the GE's that do that. I hear them at work all the time doing it, seems only when they're not moving, usually don't hear it when they're pulling. Sounds like a misfire for a couple seconds, then continues running. About 30 seconds or so later, it'll do it again. If you look at my channel, I have some startup and car kicking vids.
@TMandN In my opinion, that's the best part about GE's when they throttle up...you actually get to gradually hear the "power" coming from the engine. You don't get that with an EMD. Ah who am I kiddin', I like how the engines sound from both manufacturers!

@otef434 yes up has ES44AC's and DC's, however they choose to mark them as their own just to be stubborn.

I wonder what the average locomotive power-to-weight ratio is? With no load. It has to be insane.
