  • does this work a different part of the pecs then a flat dumbbell press?

  • this seems slightly to small of an incline to me. my personal preference is to give it a little more angle

  • it's called an incline, that bench is almost flat .. shouldn't it be at a 45 ?

  • @rickalex21 You can move the seat to suit you. Some people like a small angle others more. But if the seat is too high it will work ony your shoulders!

  • @kingofcraig ya you are right about that , recently learned that .. I learn something new every day n still learning :) I put it at like 30 degrees now. kinda where he has it.

  • @rickalex21 Yeah a lot of people go too high on this exercise, best to keep the bench on around the 3rd setting (look att he bench it should have numbers on the holes). I think the 30 degree angle should be about right. If I can help please just drop me a comment. Thanks

  • @kingofcraig Hey well funny you say that because ya. I was going all the way down to get the full streach on my pecs n make all my reps count but some people say that you should not go all the way down because you can get injured on incline or flat ? Arnold says go down all the way to shoulders but i see a lot of people who stop a few inches from the chest ...hummm ?

  • @rickalex21 Well yeah again some people wil do it different - You know your body best, if you feel pain or pulls you know maybe you are going to far down? Join pain is a big sign of doing exercise wrong.

  • @kingofcraig ya you right about that. I was reading the other day that dumbbells are used to get a full range of motion n hit your mucles differently I.E bench vs DB press , but bench you can use more weight but DB a full range of motion ... im just gonna hit the bench n incline 3 weeks n then 1 week do dumbbells what u think ? or what you do ?

  • @rickalex21 Hey dude - Well I use dumbbells (db) for my chest all the time. I change the weight and do a drop-set every other time, I like flat bench-press more if I am honest; I feel I can get a better range that way and less stress on my shoulders and my cuffs. But exercise is about what is best for you, not anyone else. If you use more weight or less weight is doesn't matter as long as it is a weight that you feel OK to work with, Just try different angles and exercises for a week or two.

  • @kingofcraig ya barbell bench press does keep you honest and ya I know what you mean by what ever works. I get a good workout from dumbbells but the ultimate test of strenght still lies in the barbell bench press ... hence im sticking with it n do one week of dumbbells at the end of the month just to keep my wrist in sync and asses my strength. Hey btw - you should flat press dumbbell more than you can military press huh ? Well I know some people are better at some things than others just wonder

  • @rickalex21 It is a good idea to swap over from dumbbells to the bench (keep the body confussed) to build mass. Some people have more strengh then others, its not because they train harder it just a natural gift. So how much anyone can bench is not an issue. I find I can push more on the dumbbells then the bench.

  • @kingofcraig cool , i think im pretty much like you pushing more on dumbells ... as of now i just do one heavy set of bar bench and 3 sets of flat dumbbells .. been doing great im at 130 lbs BW and will do the 85lbs this monday 6 - 8. Two months ago I could barley do the 50s.

  • @rickalex21 That is really good. You are doing well and I hope you are getting the results you wanted. :)

  • @kingofcraig yup, I did 85x5 reps today n 205 bench for 7 reps .. how much u weigh n what u lift on bench bar , flat DB and incline DB ?

  • @rickalex21 85lbs or KG? It does not matter how much weight anyone else does. It is about personal gain and results. Well done though.

  • @kingofcraig 85lbs LOL dat would be impressive if I could do 187lbs dumbells hehehehe I don't think they make em. Well kinda does b/c its not the same if I can hit the 90s for 4 reps now then hit the 110s at 200 lbs body weight. Or is not the same some guy saying he can hit 315 lbs bench press for 5 reps n he weighs 250 lbs he is considered weak to me that's 1.26xBW I can do 1.6XBW for 7 reps )215 lbs. I weigh 130 lbs :)

  • @rickalex21 You body weight does not matter - you can lift a lot more then what you weigh. I know guys who are a lot bigger then me can push mad weight others cannot. Just stick to what you know you can do and work towards your personal goals.

  • @kingofcraig ya you are right about that.. let me rephrase myself... weight matters if you are strong .. like if I can squat 2XBW @130 lbs bw then thats 270 ... if one day I weighed 200 lbs BW and did 2xBW that would be 400 lb squat ... so ya theres a big diffrence in squating 270 vs 400. My point is that the more I weigh the more I should be able to do. So any big guy who cant push big weight then IMO is weak example a 250 lbs guy benching 315 is weak only 1.2xBW.

  • @rickalex21 I understand you now - and 130 times two is 260 and not 270 lol. Well as I said before, how strong you are is not always how big you are. If you have more weight on you say 200lbs then you can use your BW to push and pull weight more then a guy who is say 150. If you are doing twice as much weight as you weigh then you are doing very well. :)

  • @kingofcraig ya i know I realized that after I sent it LOL .. I was thinking about what I did last week which was 270 squat at 134 lb BW. How much u squat n bench ? n how much u weigh ? well i prob asked u this already but dont feel like looking LOL add me as a friend or subscribe if u want , I do add some goofy shit sometimes but I am gonna start adding videos of me training. Next month ima bench 225 235 n prob lift the 100s DBS flat bench n squat 2xBW again so 3 videos . I have 2 old videos.

  • @rickalex21 Yeah it is all kool mate. Well I have not said what I do, the simple reason for that is what I have been saying about personal goals etc. In the gym I do not watch or listen to stories about who can press the most etc, I do not train that way, I train for fitness and not for size/mass. I will add you and look forward to your vids.

  • @kingofcraig ya I see what you mean.. everyone has different goals.Like for example met a guy at the gym yesterday he gave me some coffee he said he's just training to stay healthy not really for size/mass. He really don't care about lifting more or adding mass. Well ya I feel ya man, me it's just a personal goal to lift the 150 lb dumbbells one day among other goals but I know I need to start eating more to make that happen.

  • @rickalex21 That is cool - well I am sure you will reach your goal. Just keep working at itlike you are doing. Before you know it you will be king of the gym :)

  • @kingofcraig LOL I try not to say stuff like that b/c I don't want ppl to think im arrogant but sometimes I do say I'm *ONE* of the strongest pound for pound... as a matter a fact soon I will have more videos inviting people to challenge me pound for pound on youtube, i see people who are just good at squatting or benching but me in my glory days I was good at everything my squat n bench are there my deadlift n press are almost there. Curling I just started :)

  • @rickalex21 Yeah well its good to have some fun also when you train. Well I bet you can out lift me easy now dude :)

  • @kingofcraig well i can out do most ppl in absolute and relative strength but I try to remain humble b/c I know that I still have a lot of ground to cover and im going to start deep squatting so that's going to set me back a few pounds. P.S by the time you read this I should have my new video up ima post it in like 2 hours from now check it out :)

  • @rickalex21 Will check out the vid dude :)

  • @kingofcraig do u need to squeeqe ure muscle at the top of this movement

  • @lokrenzo A lot of people like to squeeze muscles in all workouts as this makes the muscle work to its max (more pressure on the target musle area). Squeeze at the top and bottom and you can see/feel your chest working. Have a pause at the bottom (neg.) and you can really feel the chest and as you push up, do the same.

  • can i do these on the floor? plz answer

  • no.

  • you dont have the "incline" or the range of motion needed to correctly do this on the floor

  • TRY sitting in a chair and inclining your body by scooting your butt to the front edge of the seat...that should give you the angle to hit your upper chest..just don't use heavy pounds because you don't have the back support.

  • @FearFactor9 You can use a flat bench on the floor to do them but not really that safe to go heavy - best to use a bench mate.
