  • Absolutely brilliant!

  • anusbutt

  • They were flawless together

  • This song made my heart melt! That doesn't happen very often! So freakin' beautiful! :D <3 <3

  • @multidean thanks. The Famous Flower of Serving-Men by Martin Carthy was on you tube but it's now gone! Awesome song make the hair on your neck stand up & bring a tear to the eye. The story is reversed he poses as a woman. Anyone got that please upload it.

The only bit on you tube of this song is a 1 min intro the guitar part. The king of laois by the Chieftains has also gone from you tube.

  • Other great songs by Pentangle - The lonely mountain (not on you tube at the mo) Willy O Winsbury - The hunting song - Rain & snow - Paddy's song aka the Celtic Wiccan (think that's what it's called) I'll be adding these to my play-list (favourites)

  • @futureguitar1 the trees they do grow high ( its on youtube ! )

  • The most beautiful music & voice to match. Has brought a tear to my eye more than once..yet also heart warming. One of my favourite of theirs. Can imagine my Irish ancestors travelling to the land of liberty (USA) I suspect. While some came to England.

  • Thank you so much. I needed to cry and this has helped me immensely.

  • One of their best albums. This song has always been one of my favorites. Brings back memories of my youth, many years ago. TIMELESS!!

  • Go on, Jaqui, break my heart -- please -

  • For some reason the way she says the word "heart" @ 2:32 makes a tear come to my eye.

  • @proggoth you should hear the way she says "gold" in willy of winsbury......aural orgasm :-)

  • @MultiDean75 It's almost bi-syllabic. Nice to know others appreciate these subtleties...

  • BILLINGSGATE!

  • I was introduced to this wonderful group by one of those 60's compilation discs. Pentangle did Pete Seeger's Turn, Turn, Turn. I've managed to get a few CDs by Pentangle, but can't find the one that's from. Anyone know? I like this group enough I'd get anything by them. I'm listening to the BBC sessions pretty heavy lately, and there's some excellent videos from there posted here.

    "PADDY'S GREEN SHAMROCK SHORES'

  • Wow, THIS is a total flashback! I think I wore out this album playing it over and over back in the day... Thanks for posting it!

  • That song youre speaking of (maid that is deep in love) is also done by Grateful Dead as 'Wind and Rain'.

  • most intensely cool...cruel sister is the album and one that is wonderful as DAYSLONG

  • THIS IS NOT CRUEL SISTER!! This is A Maid That Is Deep In Love - Cruel Sister is a myth about two sisters, one dark, one fair, who fancy the same bloke and this dark sister drowns her fair sister and marries him - her body is found, a harp is made from 3 strands of her hair and one of her ribs - it sounds out the truth in the church of it's own accord on the wedding day...

  • Yeah it's the first song from the CS album. It does say that if you read the information at the side.

Anyway, yeah I know a song that's a lot like that called The Swans Swim so Bonny, where the girl who's drowed gets turned into a swan, and it's the swan's bones that get used to make a harp. I'm trying to make an arrangement for it atm so maybe I'll put it up on here I dunno'.

  • Like the story!

  • Cruel Sister is the album. This is the first track on the album. 1/6. Read the description.

  • Love this...it's beautiful!!thanks for posting

  • how healing and sublime andmind blowing these folks were back a when
