For PC, I'd recommend UltraEdit, NotePad++ or E Text-Editor (a TextMate clone). :)

Just 1 note, more so because you're not a PHP developer.
Normally you should/do place the closing PHP tag ( ?> ) .. but for Drupal modules you don't.
