  • I think it's blinded difference message me.

  • This was my grandads favourite song, It makes me cry everytime, we were sat in the car outside the shops the first time he sang to me, he died last year, and I never really recovered from it, it's a brilliant song..

  • @MrSwill97 May he rest in peace. He's up there w/ all the legends now ;)

  • @liambirch I know he was. But do you know how many more civilians Stalin killed? Mmm...I wonder why that's a less popular subject, eh?

  • Private Thomas William Sexton. (My grandfather) Somme 1st July 1916

  • never be ashamed of who you are or your heritage, you can't be blamed for the things that went on in your country,, i'm irish and proud and would never say i'm ashamed of my country,, when your dead and gone and pushing up daisy's there'll be people who will do bad things that no one forgets,, but everyone will forget the ones that do your country and mine good!!

  • R.I.P pvt william collins 1bn somerset light infantry 09/11/1914 ypres

  • so is this a british war song im just curious my granda always sings it when hes drunk but im irish i duno

  • @SONYxxLEGION It is an anti war song, was written by Eric Bogle who is Scottish/Australian..

Willie McBride was an Irish soldier who fought and died in WW1..

Have a look at the description above.

Lol, I know a few people who sing this when they`re drunk.

  • @BlackMountainScar had an irish mate sing this song when on the piss the other night great song with a deep meaning

  • @BlackMountainScar "Have a look at the description above" If you do actually look then you'll see that the info in Bogle's song is filled with poetic license (ie the details are made up for the song) or if it was then this wasn't the Willie McBride who's name was used! There is no hint on this grave as to the soldier's age - but Bogle says "I can see by your gravestone that you were only 19"

  • this song very emotional. !

  • amazing this song was written in 1976

  • People who can not help today's German, they were so cruelly in the past. And it's not just the German war had been done! I'm not German, but I think we should not condemn the Germans of today! Especially about things not hire that their ancestors did.

We hope that we never have to experience such a war!

whether French, English or German only R.I.P

  • Its been almost 100 years since the start of the Great War and we still haven't learned are lesson. Mankind will never change.

  • this is always in my remembrance assembly. i always feel a bit tearful. shame there's so much sadness still x

  • Nor do many loyal sons of Ulster have time for the ranting likes of Oaksay.

  • @psydreas Some nations have people to be ashamed of in their present - most patriotic Irish people have no time for idiots like Paddy Anderson.

  • For the 11th hour of 11/11/11 and for my grandmother's first husband who died at the Somme aged 21.

RIP to all the fallen of all wars.

  • How beautiful a truly lovely song

  • Thankyou for this..Young men did not know where they were going or why..They were just led to war..and that goes for all nations....For My Grandfather Ernest 32 yrs..his brother Norman aged 22yrs,Ralph 20yrs-in The Great War now resting in Peace....And for my best mate Phillip,Germany I,ll be seeing you next year friend... God Bless everyone xxxx

  • sometimes i feel so much shame to be a German ...

  • @psydreas The Germans are Great people my friend, you should never be ashamed of your nationality. We are all only Human. There is bad in every nationality Worldwide. It happened in the past, it is happening now and it will always happen.. We can only hope it happens less often. Greetings from Ireland.

    kümmern sich mein Freund.

  • @BlackMountainScar words from a true celt,i am cornish, and i agree with you my friend, only 8 mile from landsend here, and i see the old gun towers imbeded in the cliffs of porthcurnow, and imagine those times, but as you say,we are not perfect,we all make mistakes, and i we learn from them

  • @BlackMountainScar aye too true mate ... and always it will be so until we stop it but its safer behind the sofa where we all judge with impunity than in front of the gun pointed at our neighbour... you can find me anytime behind the couch ... under a cushion... eating chocolate and drinking beer ... does that make me bad or good ?... i never worked it out myself ... 1 of me wants to grab a gun and the other 1 wants a hug

  • Thank you all. For your polite comments and I really appreciate your good intension. But I still believe it is a huge problem if big countries have big national pride.

Sometimes I think the major problem is how easy it is to maninpulate people.

How easy it is to make the people believe on lies. To learn people hate others.

Maybe it is naiv from me but I hope the Internet helps a little bit to prevent

    this in the future.

  • @psydreas No-one is responsible for the actions of their ancestors, the most any of us can do is to learn from the past and make as good a future as we can.

  • @psydreas Don't be ashamed my friend when my friends talk horribly about Germans at school,i'm the one who says their good. danke mein freund.

  • @psydreas Please don't. This song is about the First World War, which had no victors, only losers, millions of them, all across Europe. It is a shout out against the insanity and futility of war, whichever side they fought on. If we really wish to honour our war dead, then people like you and I must never let our countries ever again take us into such an insane and pointless conflict. Peace my friend.

  • @psydreas Hey mate, it's not your fault at all. Think of it this way: If the Allies lost, all Americans, British, French, etc. would be brainwashed thinking that their descendants were the bad guys. And, for Christ's sake, the British were almost as bad as the Germans used to be! They oppressed freedom, massacred civilians, they even sent freed prisoners to terrorize the people. But at least Collins & the IRA fuck'd em' up. Anyways, you guys have a great country, culture, etc. An Ghearmáin...

  • @slapshot37GNR what crap you spouting the IRA murdered innocnent people OMAGH comes to mind

  • @wdfb1997 Oh, sorry. I thought you knew some Irish history...well let me give you a background:

~Ireland suffered for 800yrs. under British rule

~BLOODY SUNDAY: Massacre of innocent Irish civis at a sporting event

~The Burning/Massacre of Cork sparks the fight for freedom

~IRB lets Britain of the freedom fighting presence on Easter 1916

~IRB becomes IRA, but many DUMBASSES don't know that

~Michael Collins successfully gains 26 counties

~Irish Civil War in which no Irishman will ever discuss

  • @slapshot37GNR micheal collins only got these counties cause he couldn't do what others did and fight for his country,

  • @wdfb1997 You just contradicted yourself in your own statement. How dumb are you? You just agreed that Collins got these counties by fighting for Éire, but then you said he didn't. That makes absolutely no sense. Verpiss dich, sie Hurensohn. You don't even know what your nation believed in? They support Ireland to this day. At least a large percent Germans can tell what a good person is, one who fights for freedom. Sadly, you're not in that group...

  • @wdfb1997 ~Later on, P.IRA formed, fighting terror w/ terror

~When the IRA seek peace talks, the U.K denounces the IRA as "terrorists" to avoid negotiations

~IRA wins many battles w/ UNCONVENTIONAL WARFARE, invented by M. Collins

~IRA gains international support for their cause

~IRA agrees to spare British lives by laying down arms

~Splinter Groups formed, but they are NOT the originals

See Britain has people like you brainwashed, and it’s very sad. Tiocfaidh ár lá.

  • @slapshot37GNR What a load of codswallop to say the Nazis were only perceived to be the bad guys because they lost the war. Hitler was an insane tyrant who brought bloodshed to millions. The Allies had no choice but to defend themselves.

  • @psydreas

Don't, it's not your fault. Don't carry the burden of something you're not responsible for! Live your life in truth and be honest, that is all you can do. Don't carry the burden of the past on your shoulders.

  • @pihoihoi i agree totally

thumbs up and cheer up dont be down for someone elses crime

  • @psydreas

Dont I admire the Germans whatever happened in the past has nothing to do with u no more than if my Grandfather did a crime its not my sin, from an Irishman.

  • @psydreas dont be ashamed , it wasnt you ... and your whole country has moved forward to lead the world in many facets of humanitys kindness you should be proud of ... look at your medical and engineering work ... nothing to be ashamed of it wasnt you ... be as you are and lead by example

  • @psydreas This song is about animal slaughter and the Nazis have always led the way in animal protection laws. I want to move to Germany and become a citizen. Heil Hitler and Hermann Goring. Free Willy.

  • @psydreas And all our German Kamerads who fought and died.from Ireland

  • @psydreas why do you say such a thing? this song is about "man's blind indifference to his fellow man" the sentiments are universial not national, have you listened to the great version in German sung by Hannes Wader? It's called "Es ist an der Zeit" enjoy life and be proud of the Bundesrepublik Deutschland and all it has done for peace in the world.

  • @psydreas i agree

  • the most profound song ever written in my humble opinion.

it's a real shame that the essence of this song is ruined by the mental process of morons like some of the postings below.

idiots like you basicly make a mockery of the suffering and price these young men paid so that you could have the freedom to express yourself.

as an ex serving member of HM Forces i say wise up or simply go away and reflect.

  • Wish we could listen and learn and not read any posts.
