that final shot of bob is so sad.... gets me every time. :-( one of my top 5 choke-up during a movie moments. (if i had the time/inclination to think of a top 5....)
@tygersflowerz I agree that gets me too. Even though this is the German version, the bob shout sounds just as good as the original. watch?v=4fREU5a6B4Q&feature=related
This song has stuck in my head for years since seeing this movie - I never knew what it was called until a few years back. I can honestly say it is my solid favourite piece of music. It has been covered by almost every artist known to man and I love the original from this movie however no one can cover it like Brian Setzer (Stray Cats/ Brian Setzer Orchestra) I recommend watching Brian Setzer live in Japan. He is mesmerizing
@LUCKYJ3SS3 His real given name was Ricardo Esteban Valenzuela Reyes. The music industry of the 1950s made him adopt the stage name of "Richie Valens" to sound more "white". So yes, he was absolutely a Mexican-American.
It's a shame he only made as few songs as he did..I love this guy..I am as close as they come to stone faced, but this movie made me cry everytime...I guess it's a passion for romance and music. The best song he wrote was the song he wrote for his true love..if you can express yourself as strongly as he did, you're alright in my book..
His death is even more trajic, because in the movie, it was just too ironic. His brother broke his necklace, so he didn't have his good luck charm with him when he flew, if you listen at the part when he's coming home, he says, "I mean it babo, I'm not flying anymore" then he had to get on the plane. He also said, he always thought he would die in a plane crash.
He picked heads!!!!!! i cried after watching this movie lol i was shaking a bit too.
I feel that man's pain. Be good to one another. For when death comes to one of our family members or friends, we'll look back to the good memories that we shared with that person. Although it won't get rid of the pain, it would sure help us cope with the loss. Guilt is stronger than pride.
I was a lil kid when I saw this movie, it was the first movie that made me cry. I came out saying that after being at the movies then going out in the daylight always made my eyes tear up. BS nobody belived me lol
i got a secret to tell. Im in my 30's and never ever cried in front of anybody about a sad movie until I watched this scene. In fact, theres only 2 movies that I still cry to: beaches and la bamba.
If it wasnt for this Sleepwalker song it wouldnt be emotional, it was the perfect song to match this masterpiece! No other movie comes close how this was made.
It always gets me........this end scene hits home obviously with an awful lot of people....its pretty spectacular how the director & the actors were able to harness these emotions which we have all endured sadly at one time or another......what a great, classy movie.Cheers.
The ending of this movie is perfect in portraying the pain of a life cut so short,Ritchie never really enjoyed the fruits of his labor,17 yrs old and was on the rock@roll scene for only 8 months, life is f#$^^ up sometimes. Buddy Holly at least had 22yrs to enjoy but still too young,Bopper 29yrs,Elvis 43yrs,Janis Joplin late 20's,Jimmy Hendrix late 20's,Micheal Jackson 40's but Ritchie only 17!
A few months ago I was watching this with my mum, who hadn't seen it, and she SOBBED and had to leave the room at this part...she still remembers that when she heard about the plane crash, she went outside to see if she could see the plane in the night sky (she was 9 years old). This movie will always be one of my favorites!
@gooniegrrl86 yes I agree not many movies hit me..but I watched this when I was 6 with my friend..and be in awe of the music..and in the end everyone was sobbing..years later when youtube came out..I searched it and I get tears..the emotion Bob portrays..excellent film.
@JAZZSTARish Oh, definitely! I was 11 or 12 when it came out...even just hearing the song gives me goosebumps! Those were songs I grew up listening to - our house was always filled with music, especially Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens.
god the ending always made me depressed, i cant help but see the ending part cause it always reminds me how ill fell when my bro..passes away..ugh...i try not to think it over...good job on getting the clip..u__u now im depressed..again
i remember back when i was a kid, my older cousin was in love with this movie! she would actually take pics of the movie playing!!!! the memories-it was a sad story...
Most people associate the song with Valens, who died some months before it was written. So how can this song be on this movie? Nevertheless, it's a nice sad song.
The sad part of this is his brother ended up being a drug addicted truck driver in the town where I lived most of my life. He had a bright future ahead of him too. Sad to see such a young performer like that pass. I am glad his family still keeps his music alive.
Is one of the best endings i ever see in my life!!!!!!...Men what a movie!!! and the song!!!!...So magic..so deep...One of the best movies of the 80's!!!!!
I use the song as a reminder every time I ply it in the my band. I think of the three greatest people in the world, Richie,Buddy and the big bopper. They will live for every just like the song -Sleep Walk . Thanks guys. R I P
@Biggdaddyg666 SLEEPWALK, one of the sadest songs I've ever heard in my life, brings me to tears just hearing it, put into the movie here in this scene it's even more chilling. Great way to close out La Bamba, sad ending obviously, but Richie lives on forever!
the part that gets me is when the older brother is on the bridge and screams out his brother's name, that is just so touching and makes me want to cry evrytime i see it!!!!
well a couple a seconds before this clip starts connie the mom starts to cry and my mom evertime i see this movie tells me to fast foward it so that connie doesnt make my mom cry lol

@0017slappy Yeah...makes me feel like crying too...but for some reason cant....it just really gets to me having a little brother, a lot of empathy. I can't name another movie that makes me that sad...
