Adorable! I saw the matinee yesterday and loved it. Matthew Hydzik's "Maria" was a high point for me. I do agree with most everything you said. Good review!
I love your whole "Taking a crap" segment haha. I agree 100% agree about Riff, Maria, and Bernardo - lackluster personalities. And I hate that they use so much Spanish...I think I would have enjoyed it soo much more if I could understand more of what they said. Somewhere is my favorite song too :)
MORE: My favorite numbers in the show were "Cool" and "Tonight (Quintet)." I also sat in the balcony and wanted to sit so much closer! I also bought that t-shirt and CD. The thing you're talking about that took you be surprise was the t-shirt tag? I wish they had a better Sharks t-shirt. West Side Story is such a classic, that it's probablly going to run for a long time.
I think you're being too hard on the show as a whole because you're heavily comparing it to the movie. The critics probablly disliked Josefina because they wanted to see more acting. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't see Karen Olivo. I hate that Bernardo had to die - he was my favorite Shark. All of the supporting cast is amazing, like you said. I honestly think that the show would still be fine without Kiddo. I guess they placed him there to make the scene more innocent.
@BiteMe1132 ur right i am being a bit hard, and i agree with what you said about the Josephina Scaglione thing, and Kiddo!! :) The movie and Show are actually very different
Idk if u know but the Tony from the movie lip-synced because he couldnt sing. When I saw it, I saw Cody Green as Riff and Matt Cavenaugh as Tony and Cavenaugh was horrible, and Green couldnt really act. I saw Hydzik play Kenickie in Grease but thats nothing like Tony so I cant compare. I honestly wouldnt see this show anytime soon. The dancing was great but other than that it was pretty mediocre. The movie is a trillion times better. Good review though.
@someone481 o crap ur right i almost 4got!!! :) Thnak u 4 telling me sorry Richard Beymer... He did a nice acting job, the singing in the movie from him was ok, but sometimes i couldn't understand what he was saying :) Thanx
The only thing I can think of regarding the critics bad review is they saw it before it opened and perhaps there were kinks to be worked out.
