Game mechanics shouldn't count if you compare Altair and Ezio since AC 2, brotherhood, and revelations improved everything. Altair was trained when he was born, Ezio trained when he was 17. Ezio uses more weapons but the weapons were invented by Altair. Ezio is cooler because of his armor, voice, and character. Altair's voice changes and doesn't have as much gameplay. The least of all that people keep forgeting, Altair used the Apple of Eden like a boss while Ezio got hurt.
Altair is a revolutionary. I didn't play Assassin's Creed II or the later games so I can't form an opinion on Ezio but I liked Altair and the first game cos it's fantastic, most of the townsfolk speak Arabic which I understand.

I only played AC II and AC Brotherhood. Going to buy Revelations as soon as it comes out on PC, and in the meantime i will but the 1st game. So right now I am in favor of Ezio, especially after watching AC Embers. :( cried like a little bitch, but Altair's name sounds cooler and more Assassin like. An "Arab" assassin, sound cooler than an "Italian" assassin...because Italians are sort of more like "mobsters" in Video games. But still, I favor Ezio <3 He went through more shit.

And there is a book based on the events of the game, before it and after when Altair gets older up until his mid 80's when he invents a piece of machinery similar to a gun in which finally kills off Abbas... I dont think you understand what hes trying to say, Altaïr invented these weapons AND knew how to us em. The scenario you made up doesnt make sense either. If you would let them battle to see who is the best, you should let them use the same weapons. In that case Altaïr would win. Why? Cause he was born into the brotherhood, I think Altaïr was already a better fighter when he was 12 than Ezio when he was 30.
@9TheManiac Altair didn't invent anything. Maybe remodle the hidden blade and made a second one (using the same blueprints). He made the indestructable armour using the apple, Altair and Malik worked together for the assassination techniques, Altair also used the apple to his advantage for the gun. And you know what the best part is? he thought he was doing the right thing by not letting others like Abbas fall to its temptations. Pfft, altair was tempted aswell.
@9TheManiac In the 30th page codex he indirectly states that he had used the apple to extend his life. And if it had come down to a fight with basic swords, Altair may have an edge. Ezio dominates in the stealth and free running traits no doubt. Do we know for sure that the apple will kill another with the first civilization DNA?
And if you would let Ezio (with all his equipment) battle an 80 yr old Altaïr, Altaïr would still win, cause he's got the Apple and he knows how to use it, which he discovered without any help. The fact that Altaïr can invent kickass weapons and knows how to use the Apple, which Ezio didn't fully understand, proves that Altaïr is also smarter. So yeah, Altaïr FTW.

And also in that book, the whole story was like some kind of memoir about Altair's life. Ezio was reading it on a journey to somewhere which wasn't mentioned.
i think we are all forgetting that soon Desmond will have the skills of both of them and would have learnt everything therefore when he has done his animus training he will be the best assassin.
The kills are so much more defined now.. you can't even compare Ezio to Altair.. if you have to though, because of the graphic kills, Ezio is x10000000 better.
imagine how much better altair would be if the graphics back when it came out were better, then he'd probably have a double blade, disarms, etc etc maybe even a hidden blade that shoots off .... ezio has more at his disposal just because the creators had to one up the action and variety... if only altair came in the second games -.-

@frico50 altair was killed in his late 90s. he stayed behind when the kingdom was attacked by templars. anyway ezio is better. he is a more interesting character, more likeable (altair was a tool, although he gets a little better) and a better fighter.
I would have to say Ezio because he has better weaponry (that doesnt mean he is better though) and he is the master of assassins. A title Altair never had. Ezio has a past anda future unlike altair. Ezio is able to kill many ways, he can even kill with hidden blades unlike Altair. And i think ezio is able to focus more then altair and not run around killing people (Even thought it was altairs mission) But it would be a close match.

I honestly don't know who would win, they both have pretty much the same skills...It wouldn't be an easy fight for either of them (not even Altair :OO) believe it or not.
Altair would win against Ezio. I like both assassins both personalities bring a very different perspective to the table, but when it comes to sheer skill and training, Altair would wipe the floor with it. Altair was trained from day 1 to be an assassin and that is his sole purpose. Ezio was eased into that position later in life, due to the murder of his family. I know Ezio has better technology, but given each with a sword or dagger, I think Altair would stab him in the dome and walk away.

In terms of a character, ezio wins, as he had far more personality. In a battle however, altair wins. because he was so detached from everyone, he was a great assassins, whereas ezio was constantly distracted by women and revenge. even when he did learn to control his emotions, he still needed a brotherhood and much better weapons than altair to take down the borgia. altair was just a one man wrecking crew. even tho ezio is not as great, at least he could swim. :P

I believe others like Altair because they played him first. If one likes a game/movie, they connect with the character, and if the sequel has a different character, the player may not like him nearly as much, as shown. Proof? I played AC 2 first, and like Ezio better.

Another thing that is better about Altair's story, is that he was in a famous point in history, the crusades, whereas the only thing you could say about Ezio is that he was in the rennaisance. Not as special as a famous series of wars.

It was neat how he met with famous blokes like La Volpe, Da Vinci etc, and that his greatest enemy was one of the most horrible Popes to ever exist, who, I think ordered many genocides over in America.
@19lemons93 Well that only makes sense, seeing as Ubisoft tried to make Assassin's Creed as historically accurate as possible. Many of the targets from the first game I know are based on real people. I know that William de Montferrat was actually at Acre at the time of when Altair assassinated him. The only discrepancy is that in real life, at the time he was an old man.

Three things 1. You can't really compare them because Thayer are from different time 2. If anyone read the books altier live till he was 80 an killed Abbas 3. The reason that Ezio has more games is because he has a longer story to do with the templars qhere as altier finished with them and started fighting corruption

@Threxio Firstly, Altair didn't create shit, he used the apple to help him. Secondly, Altair is of better rank simply for what he has done for the order, not because he is more skilled. Ezio's kills still look cooler in AC:R with a standard sword. And what do you mean Altair isnt full human? because of eagle vision? because he has first civilization DNA? well guess what? Ezio has that shit too. Ezio has shown more skill throughout the series then Altair. Ezio wins hands down.

And there is a book based on the events of the game, before it and after when Altair gets older up until his mid 80's when he invents a piece of machinery similar to a gun in which finally kills off Abbas... Oops I spoiled it there :P :P

Altair with his armour, dagger, sword and thats it. (no gun unless we're using him when he's 80). who's gonna win? ezio certainly has the edge.

I dont think you understand what hes trying to say, Altaïr invented these weapons AND knew how to us em. The scenario you made up doesnt make sense either. If you would let them battle to see who is the best, you should let them use the same weapons. In that case Altaïr would win. Why? Cause he was born into the brotherhood, I think Altaïr was already a better fighter when he was 12 than Ezio when he was 30.

@9TheManiac Altair didn't invent anything. Maybe remodle the hidden blade and made a second one (using the same blueprints). He made the indestructable armour using the apple, Altair and Malik worked together for the assassination techniques, Altair also used the apple to his advantage for the gun. And you know what the best part is? he thought he was doing the right thing by not letting others like Abbas fall to its temptations. Pfft, altair was tempted aswell.

@9TheManiac In the 30th page codex he indirectly states that he had used the apple to extend his life. And if it had come down to a fight with basic swords, Altair may have an edge. Ezio dominates in the stealth and free running traits no doubt. Do we know for sure that the apple will kill another with the first civilization DNA?

Btw I'm a neutral, i like them both.
And also in that book, the whole story was like some kind of memoir about Altair's life. Ezio was reading it on a journey to somewhere which wasn't mentioned.

I would have to say Ezio because he has better weaponry (that doesnt mean he is better though) and he is the master of assassins. A title Altair never had. Ezio has a past anda future unlike altair. Ezio is able to kill many ways, he can even kill with hidden blades unlike Altair. And i think ezio is able to focus more then altair and not run around killing people (Even thought it was altairs mission) But it would be a close match.

Altair would win against Ezio. I like both assassins both personalities bring a very different perspective to the table, but when it comes to sheer skill and training, Altair would wipe the floor with it. Altair was trained from day 1 to be an assassin and that is his sole purpose. Ezio was eased into that position later in life, due to the murder of his family. I know Ezio has better technology, but given each with a sword or dagger, I think Altair would stab him in the dome and walk away.

In terms of a character, ezio wins, as he had far more personality. In a battle however, altair wins. because he was so detached from everyone, he was a great assassins, whereas ezio was constantly distracted by women and revenge. even when he did learn to control his emotions, he still needed a brotherhood and much better weapons than altair to take down the borgia. altair was just a one man wrecking crew. even tho ezio is not as great, at least he could swim. :P

I like Ezio - he was never a jackass at any point.
I believe others like Altair because they played him first. If one likes a game/movie, they connect with the character, and if the sequel has a different character, the player may not like him nearly as much, as shown. Proof? I played AC 2 first, and like Ezio better.
Plus, Ezio can climb faster, and SWIM! He also has a sexy accent ;)

Another thing that is better about Altair's story, is that he was in a famous point in history, the crusades, whereas the only thing you could say about Ezio is that he was in the rennaisance. Not as special as a famous series of wars.

@sonikku35 Well, apparently Ezio and his family actually existed--instead of dying, his older brother joined the military, but his other one died of a sickness he was born with. As for Ezio, he was in Florence for about 20 years but none knew what he did.
It was neat how he met with famous blokes like La Volpe, Da Vinci etc, and that his greatest enemy was one of the most horrible Popes to ever exist, who, I think ordered many genocides over in America.

@19lemons93 Well that only makes sense, seeing as Ubisoft tried to make Assassin's Creed as historically accurate as possible. Many of the targets from the first game I know are based on real people. I know that William de Montferrat was actually at Acre at the time of when Altair assassinated him. The only discrepancy is that in real life, at the time he was an old man.

@civilwarrior96 but keep this in mind. who do you think designed all the weapons ezio has? who do you think wrote the codex? everything ezio has, altair had for himself at one point in time. if you go to the auditore family crypt in the second game and read whats posted on the walls you find out that altair died in florence. which also explains why his armor has an italian design. the only things ezio has on altair is the parachute and darts.
