OK I can't he;p to Chime in. I have aBMW M5 and a Mustang Shelby GT500. My Friend Paul has a 2006 911 Turbo. We run Neck to neck in my Shelby. The porsche takes off well but by 4th Gear I am leaving the porsche behind. THe Stang has 550 Supercharged horses While my BMW has 500 V10 Horses. What makes the BMW Uniques is: Gear ratio and Torgue. My Shelby has a 6 Speed Manaul while my BMW M5 has a 7 speed SMG transmission. THe Shelby RPM Maxes at 6500 while the Beemer maxes at 8200 RPM. BMW Wins

porsches are made for real races not a drag strip. take these cars around some corners. the porsche driver wins every race in my book without even stepping on the gas cause he is in a feaking porsche. seriously park a m5 and even a new boxster side by side and the porsche will get more looks.

Late to this party, BUT... arguing about who won is dumb... acceleration (in any car) assuming you don't vaporize the tires on start, is a function of pounds per HP. The higher the ratio, the quicker the acceleration. From a start, there isn't much way a stock M5 can out-accelerate a 996 TT with the X50 powerkit. (the factory numbers tell you this) 57 HP difference doesn't exactly overcome over 600 lbs of weight... BUT, in the running start scenario Turbo lag hurts the 996TT

what does that video show us? that the M5 is tuned in some way and the porsche is only slightly faster. on M5board - the M5 always wins - it seems to be a supersupersupercar! please, next time be more objective and put a stock M5against a stock RS6 or any other stock porsche (how about 997S or turbo?) up. you will see that the M5 loses...anyway, put the M5 round a corner and it loses as well...

i believe that the bmw m-models are very fast cars, but they are not the fastest any more.

I own an 03 turbo X50 and an 08 M5. The Porsche is faster from a dead start to 60mph. However,this race is with a rolling start. It would be close. I'd give the edge to the porsche. The porsche would rule on a track. The M5 is my family sedan!

There is a special upgrade that Porsche give to the customer, it' called the X50 pack, and it adds 30 hp to the normal 420hp.

The Turbo S is a special version of the 996 turbo, and it has 450 hp stock.

Interesting - I have seen some vids and the M5 keeps up with the Turbo - then on other vids the M5 gets spanked. I guess is all boils down to what you like. I was at the BMW dealer in San Antonio two days ago. Checked out the M5 from every angle - start to grow on ya after a while. I would no be able to take it over the 993 or 997 Turbos. I even like a moded 930 more, but as a 4 door it would make a better car than what I have now - E55. Very tempting.

996 Turbos are not a problem for the V10 M5.

i think you need to get your facts right..how can it be stock then then you say it has a Techart upgrade 2nd of all the M5 STOCK and standard will hit 155mph if derestricted it will hit 202mph but then its not Stock is it..the 996 turbo would blow this m5 away the m6 would be a better race..

people think that the m5 and m6 are very different. not true at all. same engine, trans, gears, HP, torque. the m6 is slightly lighter but the acceleration is almost indentical.
