  • ...an artist...

  • Tom Waits is everything a poet and musician should be, and everything so-called "musicians" aren't today.

  • My god ... He was so hot.

  • Young Thomas doing his best Joey Deacon at the beginning.

  • Талантливый мужик

  • Click on button labeled with "CC" and laugh your ass off. :D

  • @GameBoyPL1991

    Seriously, yes... and wtf?!

  • @GameBoyPL1991

You betcha. +1 simply for the experience.

  • im his Julieta, really...

  • Man this is great. I'm 26 years old and 10 years ago I would never have said that nor even listened to this. Great great stuff.

  • TW is great live.

  • Sexy, grungy, edgy, smooth------mother-fer.

Put them to bed with your sensual seductive lullaby.

    Ouch!

  • hey man

  • I LOVE YOU TOM FUCK omg he's like barking fuck me ahahaha, sry

  • What? It's Boss. Sheeeeeet...

  • fuck, what a genius,

  • i could watch him for hours. so so full of style.

  • Good shit

  • Love this! Keep on hitting replay. HEYMAN!

  • hey mann

  • Waits, man....Waits.

    Nice.

  • Anyone know what ciggarettes he smokes?

  • @DeathOfOutlaw Stronger cigarettes than you or I could smoke I'm sure.

  • Sorry guys, gave Tom a chance, still don't like it. It's just super boring to me, but I'm not knocking any of you who like it. Different strokes for different folks and this isn't for me, but I respect the guy for being different and being true to himself.

  • @danblaze83 Well, if you're not into his spoken-jazz thing, have you tried listening to songs like "Going Out West" (the live version on Arsenio's show here on YT is great), "Big in Japan", "Sixteen Shells", "All Stripped Down", etc? He's made tons of different music, some of it quite heavy and rather, well, "un-boring". Still, as you said, different strokes... He's certainly not for everyone, I guess!

  • @Elnonopololo yes, i agree about that, because i mean that he both made some songs, that i mean is very sentimenlal songs, like i mean that this song is, that i, as the man i am, do not seems to like so much, like the other songs that i mean that he also made, that i can see that you have written, that i mean is not sentimental at all, but that seems to me to be some kind of trying to make music where it is the music instruments that he wants to sound good, that i mean they dosn't do here.

  • @Elnonopololo

I think 'un-boring' is the only way you could accurately describe his music from Swordfishtrombones until the present. I think I actually prefer his more eclectic work, but I still have a soft spot for this stuff. Three of my favorite Tom songs (Whistlin' past the grave yard, telephone call from a hooker, and Burma shave) were from the 70s, but as far as whole albums go I prefer his weirder stuff.

  • @CarlSagan0101 Yeah, I agree! I was just replying to a guy that said he thought this kind of music "boring". I was pointing out that, if he was still curious about Tom Waits, he could check out a couple of Tom's songs that are heavier, faster and sound the opposite of this one (hence "un-boring")... I love this stuff too, though. Tons of gems in his earlier albums. But there's no beating the weirdness that came next... Oh, and great username, btw!

  • @Elnonopololo

I agree, there's loads of good stuff on his earlier albums. I think anyone looking to get into him should also look into his early years stuff. They were from when he was mostly doing folk stuff before he started sounding like cookie monster.

Thanks about the username. Carl Sagan is a hero of mine. I'm actually trying to see if I can find a T-shirt with his apple pie recipe on it.

  • how is it making fans look bad first get ur facts straight

and how imm i making waits fans look bad

  • can everyone stop arguing and just focus on what is really relevant, this totally awesome piece of art?

  • 23 people druk too much whiskey, so they pushed don´t like mistakly

  • @death2pc This "talentless POS" has been composing and performing music for well over 40 years, as well as acting. He took blues, jazz, early rock and roll and made it is own distinct style. True, the original recording of this is more of a "song", but him taking a spoken word approach with this just shows the versatility of his music. I don't see you doing anything innovative or new. Don't be so quick to judge; just because you don't personally like it doesn't make it any less enjoyable to us.

  • @kwalski

Calm down, I think he's just trolling

  • @death2pc

This guy is either cheering 4 the other team(u know what i mean)

    or hes on crack

    |Waits is a frekin Genius hes so legit he has his own style.

  • so original...great performance

  • I can't remember where I leave my keys or cell phone........but I've got every Tom Wait's lyric...locked in my head.

  • @kcasey4823 At least you know what really matters.

  • @kcasey4823 Please, please, could you be so kind to post here the lyrics for "Waltzing Matilda"?

  • This is what the ancient greek call a rhapsody. Not a rhapsody about a hero of the g reek mythology, not a bohemian rhapsody, but a rhapsody of a modern loser.

  • @Greektome1 u sir are either homo or were dropped on the head to many times if u think waits is a loser

he has more skill in one hand then ur whole family combined

  • That was fuckin awesome.

  • mükemmel!

  • Is there a girl to share that moments in this world?

    No? OK stay alone.

  • take all the popular musicians these days and put them in a blender. The resulting smoothy still won't have 1% of this man's talent. damn i wish i was born in the 50's so I could witness this...

@NightProwler237 yeah, i feel your pain man.

  • @iwasbornin87 true, our generation has access to a load of resources (free or at least affordable) including you tube and the internet in general all we gotta do is search a little and educate ourselves.

and with all these resources we still eat whatever sh.. the music industry feeds us.

  • @iwasbornin87 Tom Waits wasn't even born until 1949. You're a couple decades off. His debut album came out in '73 and his voice had yet to change into this raspy, jazzy, vocal sex you're hearing in this song.

  • If they're any woman in their 20s and are enjoying this then please get in contact with me because I think we may be mating partners. I'm sick of meeting girls who don't have a music taste.

  • @NightProwler237

    Mate... I'm almost thirty... Shame...

    :)

  • @kesceca

    Close enough.

@PoeticInduction: Lol yeah, it's an old gaming alias I had but still better than the hipster one you have.

  • @NightProwler237 Yeah because they'll date someone called the NightProwler, sounds like a stalker.

  • @NightProwler237 haha im 19, if that counts xP oh yeah, and obsessed with tom waits ;)

  • Some people on youtube create profiles just to surf finding videos that are so brilliant 99.99999 percent of people enjoy them. Then they post negative comments and use the dislike button just to wind everyone up. Just dont lower yourself to their level and dont start arguements. Opinions are like assholes.....Everyones's got one.

  • @jm1984ful Thumbs down to you.

  • @jm1984ful Thanks for proving you know absolutely nothing about musical talent.

  • @jm1984ful Look, you're entitled to your (awful) opinion, but I implore you, look up "Clap Hands" by Tom. From there, slowly branch out to all of the songs from Rain Dogs. This is where a lot of people start. Just listen, take the time to try to understand. You don't even have to accept it as art or music, yet. You could also try Alice. You may not understand it, but bashing it without knowing all about it makes you look like an asshole.

  • @LadyeXo I actually love the songs blue valentine and chocolate jesus, but I haven't found any others that I really like! Thanks for trying to help though.

  • @jm1984ful You could try "I Know I've Been Changed", and "Watch Her Disappear". No problem, I wasn't a fan of anything but his "Rain Dogs" album for the longest time.

  • @jm1984ful Obviously a man whose never heard 16 Shells and Burma Shave...its not about the singing its musical poetry. His poetry is about a lot of different things, and one thing it's certainly not is crap. YES! There are fantastic singer/songwriters out there and Waits is up there. Look if you can write something with this kind of atmosphere and make it better than what Waits has done, then you can call him shit sir. One song does not an artist make.

  • @jm1984ful You're an absolute moron or a troll. Why would you be listening to this if you didn't like something about it? It's not as if you have the excuse of "it was in the trending section". Just don't listen to it. Maybe you'll find some musical taste one day and come back.

  • @DeanGoulding Maybe you'll find a dick and suck it. I was on this page because I had just watched a movie with tom waits in it and I wanted to hear some of his music. I was shocked whenever I heard this crap and that's why I commented like that. I think he's a great actor and a terrific person, who's witty and funny, but his music is god awful!

  • @jm1984ful Well that's very witty of you, telling me to suck a dick. How much have you listened to? You might have a different taste in music but there's absolutely no grounds to say his lyrics suck, and overall talent? He plays piano amazingly well, can play guitar and has an epic voice.

  • @jm1984ful What's wrong with sounding like a crazy homeless man begging for change? That's one reason I love him so much: he sounds absolutely demented. It's fascinating.

  • @jm1984ful This guy is homo 2 wow man the music industry has brainwash his brain

he has no good taste in music

i bet ten bucks he like gay ass linkin park

  • @zyoncarlos Shut it. You're making us fans look bad.

  • @jm1984ful i have never understood why people find music they don't like on youtube and feel the need to tell everyone there who DOES like it how much they dislike it. be positive people. if you don't like something, move on. there's no need to waste energry insulting it and complaining about it to the people who actually care about it. instead of being negative, find something else to be positive about and go there. you have your opinion, we have ours. we'll respect yours, if you respect ours.

  • that sort of looks like morgan freeman playing the sax... i know it's not but that would be awesome!

  • bleed with romeo

  • Yes, daddy I ve Breaked the glass² of the door

  • cool as a frozen hell

  • What is this from?

  • Comment removed

  • @shelnora ? Whats it from....can brilliance not be independant of the commercial grind factory??

  • @shelnora Blue valentines

  • is this guy a slam poet or something?

  • @browntown4lyfe

Poet, musician, genius. he's done a bit of everything.

  • @browntown4lyfe FAIL! ugh

  • @Rahavin1 go away

  • @sysiphuscorinth fuck off if you dont like it

  • @browntown4lyfe ?? hes done his time with ken nordine if thats what you mean, but he is a unique genius...

  • i wish i was tom waits...

  • @TaskMaster619

I just want to see him in person ... pity i'm in oz

  • Tom Waits is barking. I will die happy now.

  • see you have Tom Waits, who is fucking nuts, but brilliantt. then you have the silly kids all over that try to be fucking nuts, and fail miserably. Its irritating

  • great song excellent ,

  • @roboboxA - you are so right - he is just exceptional - the best muso ever

  • @roboboxA

  • The real question is, when will Tom tour the US again, if ever? I like alotta bands but he is certainly the only guy id be willing to drop some real cash to go see, #1 on my list if I dont get to see him i will be dissapointed BIG TIME!

  • @chewbac46 Next time he plays in the US, I will go to see him. I been saving money just for that, he will never come to Mexico :(, I tried to find tour dates but no luck. Do you know where he publishes his tour dates? Thanks!

  • @Mvroberto The last time he toured the US was maybe three of four years ago I want to say, so hopefully we will see something relatively soon, maybe even this year. I signed up for the mailing list on his website, Tomwaits.com, they send me some cool stuff and will definetly notify you whenever he announces a tour. I'm up in the northeast, but he seems like to tour the south and southwest, i dont care i also have money aside for that and will fly wherever. We will rage hard when it happens

  • @chewbac46 At least for you it's still realistic - I doubt I'll be able to see him in Europe soon...

  • @MrMephisto89 I dunno man it seems in 'recent' years it's been a 50 50 tossup between the US and Europe, I think he definetly has a more hardcore following over there. I remember him saying on his last US tour that he was "going to the deep south, where a man wearing red pants can still feel welcome," or something along those lines. and that's what he did, we'll just have to see and wait

  • tom is the difference between art and music business

  • This is what I call a man

  • So smooth... my oh my..

  • @roboboxA A-fucking-men. Tom could turn me to religion. Tomology. First American church of Tom Waits.

  • @RubyBladeAwesome Lets start it - where do I sign up?

  • @RubyBladeAwesome If there was a church, I wouldn't go on Sundays, I'd live under one of the pews ^___^

  • @RubyBladeAwesome that would be a very grim religion

  • @RubyBladeAwesome I'm converted!

  • @ruteparedes Be blessed, my child.

Blessed by not getting greasy priest cock up the ass.

We don't do that shit in the First American Church of Tom Waits.

  • @RubyBladeAwesome Right!!!!! Applause!!!

  • Tom Waits is one of my musical heroes. He has an amazing voice, a killer sense for evocative productions, and amazing songwriting skills. His songs are gruffly affecting or just plain scary. And I have 99% of everything he's ever done! He's got SOUL! And the music of a man struggling with his soul can't help but be beautiful. At least not to me ~ .
  • I love the whooshing noises he does into the next line!!

  • durtay durtay....so damned durtay

  • he's a poet of the highest caliber. wish he could go on forever but we know nothing good last! we will always have his art.

  • @robertpmf nothing good may last forever, but before i pass on i'm gonna make damn sure my casket has something to play tom's bloody beautiful songs for as long as possible built in, i don't care about the impracticality of i will see it happen :)

  • Oooh. Good. SO good.

  • soooo back in the day, tom waits was quite the looker. hot damn.

  • Tom Waits finally was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's about f**kin time. I'm not saying Tom is the best Rocker ever but there is no one else like him. He is one of a kind and we are richer for having him. Keep Rockin Tom, Show them how it's done...

  • Fuckin Tom Waits man Fuck the American Iodl muther fuckers this is the true shit

  • The man is cool, what can I say.

  • Tom Waits is genius who will be taught in college courses someday.

  • He looks like he's completely off his tits but fuck he sounds slick 8)

  • Ill second the 1:28 comment ^_^

  • he just rocks!!!!!

  • As much as I love Waits's music, sometimes I think I love his fans better - because they make me feel less alone in seeing what's so damn brilliant.

  • @Everywhere2 ever had to contend with those who just dismiss him as "that guy cant sing, it sucks"? Its infuriating..in the words of Bukowski "they never saw the magic"

  • @Everywhere2 it's hard having a good style in a small, styleless, hic community.

  • @Everywhere2 so damn true.

  • @Everywhere2 EXXXXXXACTLYYYY ^5'Z

  • @roboboxA Damn right... this is Tom Waits ffs.... what more can we ever say

  • 01:28 - 01:36 ***

  • Anyone else love what he does @01:28 ? Freakin' hot!

  • i want what hes having

  • @roboboxA what?

  • Awesome. Awesome.

  • simply amazing

  • NOTHING like Tom Waits & a black man playing saxophone!! :D

  • master ... teacher ... genius ... Tom Waits <3333333333333333333333

  • I'm the 350,000 viewer! Cool. Anyways, I've heard of this guy plenty of times in my life, but I never actually listened to any of his music. My God. That's all I have to say. This man is amazing!

  • The thirteenth labour of Hercules was to not harm his godly lungs with a wonderful poison - represented by a cigarette in the mythical tale - while going through the four-fifty of this video and I kid you not.

  • Tom is a great actor, so cool he could put ice to shame. Tom is a fab-you-l'ass musician, so sharp he could out-do the best sinatras' big bands. Tom the lyricist, he could out-word the dictionary. Tom is Tom and we will forever Tom our way Tom Out Tom tom. And i aint talking 'bout no sat-nav....

  • Coolest people on Earth,

Leon Redbone, Tom Waits, daylight third.

  • Tom waits doesnt make music he just... makes more waits

  • Classiest man on the planet.

  • hes so feelingfull hes like a storyteller.

  • @roboboxA stupid observation.

  • his stage presence is just so abstract. hes like a moving impressionist painting

  • Yep, yep, yep. And now we've got kids thinking they invented rapping and raping the industry and listeners. No. They just gave it a different name and admitted to the raping. Pisses me off. All that aside, all in all, I adore Tom Waits as a singer, an actor, and I also enjoy much of his philisophical writings. Great piece. And props to Waits. PS: Every now & then, camera angle, makes Waits' jaw look similar to Brad Pitt's. Just once in a while.

  • Tom is one cool mofo

  • Tom, you put nearly all rock stars to shame :P

    Legend!

  • @roboboxA totally agree, poetic way of tell it :D

  • singing along to the video with a bullet in his chest Romeo is bleeding

  • I love the way he moves almost as much as i love how Cedric Bixler moves

  • Mmm I want to f*** him!!

  • It's ironic that "American Idol" and "Tom Waits" should be a truism, but circumstances make it an oxymoron.

  • @pretorious700 I think he kills them... Idols that is.

  • @pretorious700 Paradox*

  • There are far too many comments about American Idol here.

Tom Waits is your god. On the knees please.

    OWWWWWWWW

  • this song, no respect..

  • WTF?

  • Comment removed

  • Never liked Tom Waits, tried listening a few times but couldnt help the fact that i hated his voice, and only liked Jockey Full Of bourbon, but i think i get it, this guy has the entire athmosphere of a jazzclub in his voice, it just fits.

  • @PietRock85 you may be listening to the wrong songs. Try "Please, Call Me Baby" "Eggs and Sausage" "Drunk On The Moon" "New Coat Of Paint" and "Whistlin' Past The Graveyard"

  • tom waits would lose his ass off on american idol, and that's why he's so great.

  • @n0rthamericanscum people just wouldnt understand. he would float right over there glitter covered heads.

  • this has more rock and balls than 95% of the shit out there

  • @javadarajava ahahahahahaha

  • Beats lil Wayne thats for fuckin' sure.

  • aaahhh yes why cant this be another time another place

  • This is WAY more than just music.

  • This song is the quintessential theme song for cool cats and bad motherfuckers everywhere.

  • @MSW86 "Quintessential" 10 points. I agree with you

  • @LadyeXo "... he throws a bottle at a milk truck/ as it breaks, he grabs his nuts/ they all know they could be like Romeo if they only had the guts...." That sums it up right there.

    Oh yeah, and

" he combs back his feathers / all the grease clear/ everything is cool, now that Romeo is here!"

  • it's a frequency my set receives clearly

  • thanks Tom, your a true artist
