Good thing we never saw this video back in the day. Or us kids would have never made this song Number 1 that Summer it came out.. All we knew is that we loved dancing on this song..
OMG, always loved this song and performance with legend-in-the-making Rod Temperton on keyboards - those were the days. And what's with the 'is he/ isn't he gay?' fixation'. Christ!
im feelin it so bad dude has a f.....awsome voice cant hear anyone carry the notes he does in "always and forever and as a group well.. lets just say there arent any groups like that anymore !!!
@BBBYpsi Johnny was married. I saw the heatwave unsung biography, not once did they mention he was gay. He was not. None of his bandmembers were gay either. If they wwere it wouldve mentioned it.
@veeseee128 look it up he was openly gay as for his wife when did he marry? He was parylized from the waist down in 1979 from a auto accident when a van side swiped him.
this song a lot longer before my time XD but god i love it soo much this game called when i played eye toy (PS2) back in the days i fell in love with it XD
I've always wondered if Rod Temperton actually played that synth solo, or if they used a studio guy for that bit. If that's actually Rod, then he not only has mad songwriting skills, he also has mad keyboard skills too!
The guy on the right with the turbon on his head moving his arms a little faster than his buddy on the right. I think he is sweet as sugar cane. just something about him.
@veeseee128 That's Johnnie Wilder you're talking about, who unfortunately passed a few years back. He was the group's leader, and reportedly he passed over on some of the songs Rod Temperton wrote. Rod then passed the songs onto other people, who then had big hits with them. One of them, according to Keith Wilder, was Rock With You, which was of course a big hit for Michael Jackson!
I was a little kid when this was out and I could be dead sleep at ten o'clock at night and one of my family members would put the song on and I would jump up and start dancing
Somebody made the comment that you just made up your own dances in the 70"s and I say yes we did! We had routines off of every damn thing under the sun!
Missed this totally in the punk years. Heard it first (or listened properly) on a free newspaper disc. Fantastic start, which you can't hear properly on this, then fabulous everything. Forget the outfits/black/white/etc, this is just a total genius song, brilliantly performed. Still prefer punk..............
Great song - couldnt remember what these guys looked like....ummm kinda of an eclectic bunch of guys.....the drummer scares me! Is he wearing makeup and earrings??? Wow lol
I liked this tune because of the crescendo at the end of the track. It pisses me off that MY generation doesn't have R&B bands like this in The music Industry; Who knows? We might have pulled off something like this. Unfortunately, we will NEVER know.
@RickardoMute they were hugely popular. Maybe you missed it. They had fans worldwide. The american scene was cluttered with many funk bands at this time but they received plenty of air play here and abroad.

bassist mantes got stabbed by his girlfriend who was pissed with him, and he was dead for a few minutes...after a coma he was paralyzed and blind. he eventually got his sight and movement back, but , yeah, couldn't perform.
@neoconsnightmare3 when you have a band (particularly self contained like heatwave was) something happens to your writer/producer and THEN a couple of players, it's devastating.
i think a couple of other guys in the band were in seperate motorcycle accidents as well.
@Virenkickedpresass: No, darling I don't believe I made an issue out of it. I get a little irritated when ppl ask that question out of left field. I still don't understand what that has to do with anything. I never have and never will. However, just as it is someone's right to ask the question if someone is gay or not it is also my right to express my opinion on their question. I am grown, over 50 and it is what it is. For the record, I am not gay!
@virenkickedpresass: wow! lol! I would like to kno the answer to that question 2. Tru it is a question, but to me it makes no difference either. Erbody is not like me, I loved Johnny Wilder! I hope y'all dont start nothin over a question. It's all good in the neighborhood! I'm jus sayin.
Ppl I mean really....let's just say for the sake of argument that the beloved Johnnie Wilder was gay (which he was not!).....so what? Of what consequence would it be and what would that possibly have to do with his talent???? People just kill me with that foolishness! If I like someone I wouldn't give a rat's tail if they were gay or not because talent is talent whether one is straight or gay. One has nothing to do with the other. May he RIP.... beloved Johnnie Wilder! Have some respect!
I'll always love this song. The few times I've told people I like this song, they've given me funny looks. I think they're idiots. By the way, today's music really sucks. There is no meat in the sandwich anymore.

i wonder did they feel as gay as they look in them outfits. i know they didnt. they thought they was the bomb outfits. yo baby? you look thirsty. let me get you a drank. ok big daddy.
Let's try to lighten the mood of this "heatwave" with a little "Heatwave". Notice the nerdy-looking white dude playing keyboards. He is Rod Temperton from Britain. He wrote the majority of Michael Jackson's early hit songs--including the song "Thriller". Not bad for a snaggle-toothed Englishman...
Dance music simply would not be the same without his influence, a genius who's production is second to none and simply never gained the fame he deserved, although he never sought it. A white man yes, an Englishman certainly but most of all a gentleman and all this from a small seaside town in Lincolnshire. Who said white people don't have SOUL uh?
@MrBlaqdave, Rod not only produced Thriller (the track) he wrote it along with "Off the Wall" (the title track) from the previous album, "Rock with You" and "Burn this Disco Out" for MJ and many many more from The Brothers Johnson and Aretha herself.

Great fun song to dance to. Who remember roller skating to this music? lol cool, fun times. Even now I still love dancing to it.

Contd...
