does the p71 kit take the traction control away? i have a stock '93 crown vic, not the police edition, and the traction control hardly lets me drift in snow, let alone on pavement
They're all pretty much the same. They all have the same HP ratings pretty much. I believe some came with 3.27:1 axle ratio as well as the 3.55:1 ratio.
I would personally look for a lower mileage one that was not a patrol car. Something like a detectives car, fire/police chief's car. Regular squads tend to have a lot of antenna & light holes along with holey & torn up interiors, not to mention they spend a lot of time idling. Oh also NO EX-TAXI'S, they are beat.
Actually, ex-patrol cars are the better bet. They have EXTREMELY tedious maintenance schedules (more-so than detective, fire department, etc.) and patrol cars are left to idle for hours on end, so they are always at operating temperature. 40% of engine wear takes place when a car is warming up, if a car warms up less times, its less wear. And you can easily find newer P71s with low miles. I just saw an 08 with 755 miles. If that's not new, I don't know what is.
The issue with idling is that it doesn't show up on the odometer. In 2006 (I think) they started putting hour meters on p-71's for that exact reason and a buddy of mine installs emergency lights and says they get them in with ridiculous hour/mileage ratios.
Does that idle meter work with the odometer basically on the same display panel just different function? I know that one hour of idling on the vics is equal to about 33 miles of driving.
It's just a straight up hourmeter like you would find in a piece of heavy equipment. It records hours the car is running regardless of what it's doing.
Ex patrol cars are NOT the better bet. Sure, they were maintained, but that's like saying a chain-smoking person is healthy just because they exercised every day. Patrol cars are driven like, well, like rentals. They're driven year-round, in the salt, and never hosed out underneath. You're better off paying more for a low-mileage civilian model.
If possible, buy an '04 and above. Low miles and low abuse is the key. Although, these cars are built to take it, it will cost you a lot less money in the long run if you get a Vic that someone took care of.
The 03 had some minor electrical issues. I wouldn't let that stop me from buying an 03 they're still great cars. I would just choose 04 and up. I have a 2000 and I've really only dealt with intake manifolds leaking. Other then that they're great cars.
i got my 01 p71 4 $800$ and just put a new trans and fan also heater core so about $2200 i payed 4 mine and i just tinted the windows too it looks and sounds sick it came with flowmasters 44series on it i just hade too weld a spot and the thing runs like new and befor all that i did oil change and plugs so i put about $1800 into it but still well worth it love crown vics and iv ownded about 4 soo they are nice riding fast and cool big body cars /w power too spare lol;]
Thats great-people need to understand these cars are over 4000 pounds are autos and when the police are done with them they are beat pretty bad-so even if it can beat a few fast cars thats awesome!
If you have anything under 120,000 miles on a CVPI it's basically brand new. Very, very easily can take 300,000+ miles if you take care of it. (Note how many odometer videos of 0-60, 0-100, 0-120 have 100,000+ miles on there, and they still are able to get power!)
Mine's an '03 with about 68,900 on the odometer. Gonna get a nice tune for the V8 and a little bit of pampering and detailing for Xmas...hopefully we can get a vid up early in the new year.
Barely. The sti ripped him off the line because he's turboed and awd, but if you notice the sti stopped pulling after about a car length. If the video would have spanned out longer, that vic might have even reeled it in.
Hey Kellydood i have a 2001 police intercepter and was thinking about giving in a shot of nitrous myself. Did you have the do any big engine mods before that was possible? Im scared to hurt the engine.
fuck the flowmasters they sound like shit get two cherry bomb glasspacks they sound sweet and there like $20 a piece I got them on my 98 cvpi next the cats are comin off and i'm installing an H pipe and no there is nothing wrong with the limited slip those are the tires you hear
hell yeah man, i had one on my 2.3L ranger with no cat, it wasn't gonna win me any street races like all those ricers hope for when putting on an exhaust, but it sounded damn good and was quite loud. check out my video of it
nice to see other people abusing old cop cars too. lol I had my first crown vic for about 7 hours before I got pulled over for my first play time. lol
i have a 2000 CVPI, bought it a few months ago for $4k with 57k miles on it but its still stock. i say buy a K&N Air Intake 57-2544 and some Flowmaster Delta 40s.
Looks like a fun project, although, I do wish the racing be kept at the track instead of on the streets. I lost a good friend needlessly due to that kind of activity.
Sweet, someone else with a clue. Everyone has moments where they've gotta be stupid but make sure it's safe before you do that kinda crap. Track is preferred. Not one in your area? There's a business opportunity waiting for someone to capitalize on it.
i like this video cause he also shows how he lost a couple races...won most but hey...you win some ya lose some. if yuo lose..just go modify some more and come back...anything can be made to go fast...well ....almost anything.
Woh...Hold on man, The 4.6's are the same Only dohc in the cobras. The GT has sohc like the vics:) BUT the Vic engines are slightly different in the intakes and tune.
Yeah mine missed the PI package by a year, A lot of people get confused and think "PI" stands for "police interceptor"....And then they argue with me over it,lol! And your right on the Marauder, it had a dohc 4.6 like the cobra...it wasn't exactly the same though but close:) with the stock 98-99 Vic the difference from the stang was in the tune and intake, check out the performance parts for the stang and you can see the slight differences in the two 4.6's
yeah unfortunately, the crown Vic's seam to be the redheaded stepchild of ford. they always got the left overs from the other fine fords like the mustang they had the "pi" package I think sometime in 98 or 99.
sorry to tell you.. I own a 97 crown vic interceptor. Took the 4.6 out and replaced it with a 5.0 i dont dislike the 4.6 .. but ask most anyone and the 5.0 is a much better engine.
Obviously the 4.6 would be more advanced than the 5.0, it's 25 years newer. 5.0 motors are a dime a dozen, and parts are dirt cheap, so people love to use them. Does this make them obsolete?? Not a chance in hell.
How do you figure?? Yes, Mod motor means that it technically is two "4" cylinders. I love the 4.6 in my Grand Marquis, but Ill admit that its limited with the budget im on. 5.0 has parts cheaper to find, hell, I got a 5.0ho motor just chilling on my garage floor, that i got for free.
They're governed to 130 mph with the 3.27 gears, and 110 with 3.55s. The reason for that is the driveshaft is long and heavy and can come apart after it hits a certain speed; there are mods you can make to lessen this risk. You can easily get rid of the speed limit with a tune; I had mine up to a tish under 140 mph once. They're great cars, a huge bang for the buck, and very reliable. Thanks for the props guys.
What do you mean narcoticsrc? You cannot spell. This a damn good video other people show their car sitting and post videos of their mufflers (thats gay). And further more they are not governed to anything they are police interceptors their job is to intercept. Does this car look governed to you.
Huh? "Narcotisrc" is a user name, and I was responding to that users comment. Scroll through the other posts. And for your information I can spell just fine.
Thanks for the props guys. All the local ricers know the car now (dude, that guys got NOS!), so I can't get any of them to race LOL. I ran a 13.38 with it last month; there's a video of it posted.
If you want power, the best CVPIs to get are the '01 and newer cars. If you can, try for an '04. The newer ones would run rings around the older boxes with the 302/351s.
I was looking into getting an older crown like an 88 or an 89 cause i want the 302 5.0 What sized engine is that 4.6L but what is the cubic inch? And if i put 3.73s would it be faster then my 86 na supra?
not positive, but 1/10 of a litre is about 6 cubes or so. a 4.3 V6 is 262 cubes, so I'd say somewhere around 275 to 282. I'm not positive, but this should be somewhat accurate.
Thanks man. These are just random clips of us screwing around with the car....some of them show it with just intake, exhaust, and a tune, and a few of the racing clips were after I got my 125 shot nitrous setup installed. I also got some 3.73s recently, which helped a lot, especially from a dig. Also, I'm not anti-import; I'm anti-rice.....my other car is an import (see my other videos).
i also have a 2003 crown vic police interceptor...it has 3.73's, a locking diff, x-calibrator 2, and a 125 wet shot...def. not slow. im surprised that first ricer kept up as well as he did...and that WRX was an STi...your just mad a granny car would rape you...as a Ford technician, crown vic doesnt get nearly as much credit as it should. they have a LOT of potential. you are probably a 12 year old wanna-be who doesnt know a power steering pump from an AC compressor....get a life..
yea, isn't it awesome. i have a 2000 CVPI still white with cop tires the amount of respect i get with this car is sic. i used to drive a 1998 Kia Sephia (crappiest car ever made) and since miami is home to the countries worst drivers i would get cut off and run over all the time.
Thanks for the props guys. It's got an off road X pipe, turbo mufflers, cold air intake, a pcm tune, and a beefed up limited slip diff. There's also a 100 shot wet nitrous setup on the car. I have since raised that up to a 125 shot, and swapped in a 3.73 ring and pinion, so it goes even better still. They're great cars.

yea, isn't it awesome. i have a 2000 CVPI still white with cop tires the amount of respect i get with this car is sic. i used to drive a 1998 Kia Sephia (crappiest car ever made) and since miami is home to the countries worst drivers i would get cut off and run over all the time.
