Like the video. Do you have a website on step to step instructions? I was debating on making this to get the bag size for solo use to save weight. I like the basecamp model you can get it for 51.00 bucks but its heavy with such a big bag. I see the filter along is 40.00 bucks. Its to bad ula quit making them.
@tritan1 Thanks, no step-by-step, just this video. I've been told by a few helpful viewers that the Sawyer in-line is the way to go - they profess 1 million gallons guaranteed and at a lower price. It's my next one.
Try putting the clear or white plastic bottle under the sil-nylon and screw the black plastic ring over the top (sandwiching the sil-nylon). I did this same thing with a cut down nalgene. Mine doesn't leak at all and I don't use any rubber bands. I had to cut the filter down with a dremel to make it work though (with the nalgene). I also cut the bottle as close down to the threads as I could while leaviing it functionable. See if that helps.
You have several clever ideas in this video that seem to work so well. The plunger for the fuel on your stove, the home made filtrations sysyem. Great ideas. Appreciate your sharing them.
Crap hit wrong button, I can not for the life of me get mine to stop leaking. I have four ranger bands and water still finds it's way around it. Any ideas
@nuckkingfuts Hey buddy, Try your first ranger band around the treads, then layer the silnylon, then add the remaing bands. I did double-up a couple ranger bands to get then really tight. Let me know if that solves it...
@ihikearoundcom Too funny! While watching your videos I get this comment from you. As for changing to a gravity system - for me, it depends on my particular hike. I'll use the gravity system if I'm staying put, say at a campsite. If I'm on an extended hike I'll use the pump. I've retained both systems. The Hiker Pro pump is really easy to use. I've adapted all my bladders to quick connectors to the Hiker Pro.
Does the katadyn replacement filter come with the blue screw piece or just the ceramic filter? I've shied away from using a pump because of the weight, but have been wanting to work on a DIY gravity filter for a while. Do you know how much your rig weighs? And also, just curious to how well the ranger bands seal. Any leaks?
@MorgantownUL The complete silnylon bag / filter with hose and on / off valve weighs 8 oz. The blue screw piece is molded to the filter as one unit. I used two ranger bands making it a tight no-leak seal. You can lighten it all up a bit by not using the water bottle piece I added, and you can go with a different bag that does not have the closure latch at the top. I hope this answers all your questions - if not fell free to ask away.
If your going to dip the whole unit I would make sure to make a bend in the hose so no unfiltered water can drain down from the sides into the clean water and contaminate it. Great idea looks like a fun DIY project.
@Ggreenvideos The "spot" is a 15 minute bushwhack off the beaten path. I'm sure you know a few spots in your great wide open - enough room to hang those hammock chairs of yours. Your suggestion to check out Arrowhead is going to cost me some money in the near future. They have some really cool stuff! Oh, and of course, I see you've posted another video...

@steintanz Thanks Tim! It packs easily and works well. I think I should have picked a brighter color for the bag - haha.
