The ending song is clearly Armenian, considering its using traditional Armenian instruments and is sung with the same melody of an old, traditional Armenian funeral song. Know what your talking about before you say it.
The reason is quite simple. The song in the end is a church hymn called Der Voghormia/Ter Voghormia. It's Lord Have Mercy or Kyrie Eleison. I can find you a link if you wish with the same song in Armenian. Even though they're Armenian, it doesn't mean everything they do is Armenian, true. But this is Armenian. It has a Tribal touch to it, but it's a church melody in reality.
I don't think its tribal. The melody at the end is a really old Armenian folk melody, our choir sings it during services at Armenian church. Armenia wasn't tribal in times of Christianity :))
Love it, and been trying to find the full album version for a while. Thanks for the upload. Sorry bluej511, but to say it's Armenian instead of tribal is like comparing apples and oranges. "Armenian" is more of a specific ethnic background, while "Tribal" is an umbrella term that can apply to any ethnicity across the board. Their can be tribal Armenian music, tribal Apache music, tribal Islamic music, tribal etc...
If tribal is an umbrella term as you imply, it would be more like comparing apples and fruit to Armenian and tribal.
And to arguers: It wouldn't be wrong to say that the ending piece is tribal, just like it wouldn't be wrong to say that apples are fruit =)
And, how does anyone know it's Armenian? Just because they're of Armenian descent? They were all born in America. It could be Armenian, it could be another tribe, or original, who knows
@eyeCube1 True, I never thought of that way. And this might be a bad example but it's the only one I can think of off the top of my head, look at Zeppelin. They were of English descent yet their music, Kashmir in particular, has so many other influences from other cultures, making their style borderline Progrock. Regardless, I love their music nonetheless.
I am not an expert, but as an avid listener to music from all corners of the world, you can generally tell the region the music is from by the instruments used, the type of musical key that is used, various rhythms, and if you are really good, the language that is being spoken or sung. This, to me, definitely sounds middle eastern in nature, I can't imagine why they would include a beat from another country especially since they are very avid about Armenian rights
@eyeCube1 the hidden track is an old Armenian church song, called Der voghormya (it means Have mercy on me, O God) but this is not the original one, this is Arto's mix, here is the original
the ending is both armenian and tribal/africanl, its a mix. anyone who says its completely armenian just cause the members are armenian is stupid. great song though i love it.
Regarding fearisfallen's comment about the song's meaning, it kind of reminds me of that part of Hamlet where it's mentioned that all people, regardless of class and prestige (or lack thereof), end up as worm chow after they die.
Specifically it's the "king in the guts of a beggar" conversation, which I believe is between the gravedigging clowns.
Pardon me if I got any of those facts wrong, feel free to correct me.
great song, are the lyrics in this song about aliens by any chance because i saw the video to this today and the child in this was alien like? the lyrics make so much sense. please reply.
no, its about how people are born and their the same, they go through life differently and end up the same, you can google search the meaning theres an interview with daron that explains it
Thanks for uploading this, its great to find it on the internet, i was beginning to think it was only me who had it, i hope you get more views on it soon because its so brilliant!
yer thats what i thought too, it was soo annoying because i love that part at the end of the song. this is definetly one of the best songs by System Of A Down :)
Who gives a fuck what category exactly the ending is? All I know is that it sounds good, and frankly, that should be all that matters.
