Retired 19D here....Basic training 1987, old 16th cavalry....9 weeks of basic is right, but I know when I was there....AIT was 9 weeks, they lowered it to 5 or 6 when the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan started....Good Video Private Anderson, good for young men to hear from a young scout. I would like to be both a medic and a scout, but I already committed to the Air Force, so I figured I'm just going to go ahead and do my 4 years there and then maybe transfer to the Army.

The basic training part of being a cav scout was the most fun I had while in the Army. I meet a lot of great people in the military and made some of the best friends a person could have. As for the day to day task in the military, it really sucks. The majority of the time its just CQ and a lot of retarded details. Such as guard duty, cleaning empty buildings, going to the field for weeks or months at a time. There's also the fact everyone is more up tight when they are in garrison.

iight man its all good, and seem not to know your true job as a 19D1 Cav Scout... as a Airborne Cav scout (hooah) its easy to see the major deference between the infantry world and the scout world. Yes now a days we do infantry's job, but are real job is to recon an area and look for routs for the main body, and once found judge the curvatures of the road the hill grade if any, judge streams, well to sum that up to see if vehicles or personnel can travel that route, as a cav scout u mst be able.

im scheduled to leave for basic feb 28th 2012 to fort benning as a 19D, i i ended up in rotc 2nd semester this year and learned alot of the basics of being a soldier and i loved it so i took some time off and enlisted active duty. i have heard mixed opinions about basic training and was wondering what its really like. i like intense training and being focused i work out everyday and bc im a big dude i heard basic is gonna suck, even tho my running, strength and conditioning are good

From what I've read 19D spenda alot of time in the motor pool with the pogs or on detail duty cutting hedges and cleaning. Any truth to that? sounds like a great career, when your deployed. Great vid by the. Very informative for poolies waiting to be shipped OUST.
