Retired 19D here....Basic training 1987, old 16th cavalry....9 weeks of basic is right, but I know when I was there....AIT was 9 weeks, they lowered it to 5 or 6 when the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan started....Good Video Private Anderson, good for young men to hear from a young scout. I did 22 years and was proud everyday to be a scout. Scouts out!
So what kind of vehicles do scouts use? Do you guys ride the MRAP or the Stryker? Do you guys have combat medics in Cavalry Scouts? I would like to be both a medic and a scout, but I already committed to the Air Force, so I figured I'm just going to go ahead and do my 4 years there and then maybe transfer to the Army.
Very good informational Video, this was exactly what I was looking for although I have a few more questions about the MOS. I want to become a 19 Delta Calvary Scout but most people say I can't because i'm a skinny weak looking guy but I believe I have the mind to go through it all, what do you think? If I were to try would the Army make sure I made it through? Any advice or anything that someone would need to know about before trying for this MOS? Thx Bro
what exactly does a scout do once active? whats their job? how is it different than infantry? im thinking about enlisting as 19d or 11b, but im not really sure exactly what scouts do. ill be active duty so would most likely be sent overseas, so what do scouts do when theyre active? whats it like?
when I look bak at 17 this was hard scary, and I was trippin balls at bct now I look back now 21 that shit was lame as fuck hahaha I can't believe I did that army shit wow haha I was the only brown guy their and now am the only brown guy out! if I knew doing that would only get me 10 grand and a place to stay I would of just grew weed in my backyard and make bank but no my dumb ass thought by me doing that I would out of no where be MR. kool guy xD 4 years went by so fast.
nice video bro, so for a calvary scout u gotta do basic training for 9 weeks then Advanced individual training for the other 5 weeks i think it is, right? If u do them together its OSUT i know. And do u go into combat a lot? Anyways, nice video, thanks for the info and good luck.
@CavScoutAnderson You didn't get deployed? how often do scouts get deployed?and when your done with AIT and get stationed somewhere, what do u do when ur stationed there?
This is the new army just a bunch of sissy girls coming from basic now...tired of how they baby soldiers now a days...I graduated in red phase and I still wasn't ready for the real army...you drills need to send units soldiers actually ready for the bs of the real army and let them know how garrison life is...most my joes were cry baby bitches that thought they were civilians out of that uniform and no respect and no knowledge of using chain of command
The basic training part of being a cav scout was the most fun I had while in the Army. I meet a lot of great people in the military and made some of the best friends a person could have. As for the day to day task in the military, it really sucks. The majority of the time its just CQ and a lot of retarded details. Such as guard duty, cleaning empty buildings, going to the field for weeks or months at a time. There's also the fact everyone is more up tight when they are in garrison.
im in the reserves right now waiting to finish up school before i decide to go active. i want to be a cav scout, just curious though do all scouts have to be airborne qualified?
very helpful video....if i may ask, what are you planning on doing once your out of the military? i like the MOS but i want to have a skill set once im out that i can get a job(not a cop).
:] i rememeber living with my mom and dad in fort drum when my dad was stationed there. Then he went to Korea in Chemical Recon. when i graduate, im thinking about trying for Calvery Recon.
Thanks for posting this, I needed this info. Im seriously considering this MOS. I dont think they do this training at Ft.Knox. I live 30 miles from Ft.Knox, and they moved armor and cav. completely out. Thank you, and thank you for your service. God Bless.
iight man its all good, and seem not to know your true job as a 19D1 Cav Scout... as a Airborne Cav scout (hooah) its easy to see the major deference between the infantry world and the scout world. Yes now a days we do infantry's job, but are real job is to recon an area and look for routs for the main body, and once found judge the curvatures of the road the hill grade if any, judge streams, well to sum that up to see if vehicles or personnel can travel that route, as a cav scout u mst be able.
They still smoke you. Buddy just went through basic for 11b. They smoked him often. And I was told they still make the walls sweat. Army still kicks ass
im scheduled to leave for basic feb 28th 2012 to fort benning as a 19D, i i ended up in rotc 2nd semester this year and learned alot of the basics of being a soldier and i loved it so i took some time off and enlisted active duty. i have heard mixed opinions about basic training and was wondering what its really like. i like intense training and being focused i work out everyday and bc im a big dude i heard basic is gonna suck, even tho my running, strength and conditioning are good
From what I've read 19D spenda alot of time in the motor pool with the pogs or on detail duty cutting hedges and cleaning. Any truth to that? sounds like a great career, when your deployed. Great vid by the. Very informative for poolies waiting to be shipped OUST.
@goonskank WHAT!!! Jesus man!! well.......at least your telling me the truth! I was in the 5/15 Charlie troop from 02 Nov.01 to 14 March 02, y'know, back when the towers fell & uncle sam was mobilizing to kick-ass but they still had our asses polishing boots (Joes have fucking made with those damn ACU)!! If you aint cav, you aint shit!!
I hate how so many people tell others not to do this or that job just cause (THEY) had a bad experience or not the right mind set and got ptsd or what ever.
CavScoutAnderson- Is it really that bad? I already took my asvab and planning to choose 68g which is patient admin specialist. Ive been wanting to join ever since. Just another question, can you take college classes while your in active duty? I heard that the army pays 100 percent tuition while your in the service. And how long is the deployment if your in the army?
Fuck fort knox, fuck this hooah 19delta shit. wanna be unemployed, and making shit when you get out...not to mention, develop some sort of drinking/drug problem, PTSD, not worth it, not a fun life. dont let them deceive you.
CavScoutAnderson- Mad respect to you brah. Just quick question hows is the life being in the army? (active duty) I myself is planning to join. Any advice would really help. Aprreciate it man!
@neplar24 I've been in for a year as a 19D, bout to go to afghanistan, it sucks, maybe its just my unit, but its nothing but a bunch of bullshit, do yourself a favor and go to college.
im pretty interested in the army and calvery sounds pretty cool would you recommend it and do you like it. and is there anything you dont like about the army so far.
@younggeneral386 The army is like any other business, its full of bullshit and there will always be too many chiefs and not enough indians. If you were smart, you'd get a pog job, like communications or medical core, the difference between pog and combat arms life styles within the army is drastic, you will enjoy your life much more if you get a pog job, and you might actually have some useful career skills when you get out
Sweettooth37 no not all cav scouts go to airborne matter of fact if you don't have it in your contract ROTC will most likely steal it from under you and as a result get you sent to south Korea or some other awful post like they did to 37 ppl in my troop (c troop 2/398) 2 days befor graduation
Hey man, I am going to join the army next week after losing over 40 pounds and i want to be a scout. Are there any other tips and advice you can give to me?
Hey bro thanks for the upload, I was wondering since I'm going to MEPS in 2 days I was wondering if there is an infantry scout group? I heard there is 2 different scout groups... How was calvary scout training, it seems like you just talked about basic... Thanks...
I love being a scout graduated from the last fox troop 5/15 cav at knox, if u sign from here on out u go to benning. I like it a lot more. If u can get airborne take it, you'll regret it later if u dont. 82nd Airborne is the shit yo :)
Beret* ... Please spell right and know your shit.... Scouts do what the fuck we want... and we rock the stetson and spurs every friday in garrison... and whenever during your downtime when your deployed...
I went through OSUT at fort knox. Charlie company....sergeant navarro. Fucker was brutal. Was a ranger who saw combat in DS. This was is 02 when the war first started. Taught us how to scout like a mofo tho. Kept me alive in raq
best video on you tube about cav scouts quick question is cav scout training more hands on or class room test taking stuff? what are the mostly likely places u can stay at being active.
@FrankCastle2009 Well when your first in basic its more classroom because u have to learn about tradition and how to follow army rules while in combat and stuff like that, but its more hands on than anything, almost everyday we were out in the field
He I picked my mos 19d today I ship out October and I think it's in ft benning ... But are there different divisions of cavs ? And also do you have to weear that gay cowboy hat because that's totally not my style
@iPhonestunna what do u mean by divisions...the hat is called a stetson and im pretty sure u wear it on special occasion but not often. i wont b able to answer back cuz im actually at basic, i just graduated and they give u a 2 day pass with ur family
Thanks for this vid! My son is 5-15 CAV, Alpha - 2nd Platoon at Ft. Know right now. Sounds like he's w psycholover12's soldier. Got a 1st letter 2 days ago! yay! Nice to have some company while waiting for our soldiers. =)

TheGnarlySniper 8 months ago
@TheGnarlySniper is ds christofferson, ware, du, or mills still on the trail for fox?
birdman6896 8 months ago
Ofcourse scouts go airborne and yea cav sees alot of action, we r like a quiet infantry, smaller groups and use recon

do you get to pick your job in the army? or do they say we have these jobs open, now pick one?
pmconner1 9 months ago
@pmconner1 you take a test (avasb) and whatever your test score is depends on what job you can get Higher the test more opportunites you have

I went through OSUT at fort knox. Charlie company....sergeant navarro. Fucker was brutal. Was a ranger who saw combat in DS. This was is 02 when the war first started. Taught us how to scout like a mofo tho. Kept me alive in raq

taylorjm84 9 months ago
best video on you tube about cav scouts quick question is cav scout training more hands on or class room test taking stuff? what are the mostly likely places u can stay at being active.
FrankCastle2009 10 months ago
@FrankCastle2009 Well when your first in basic its more classroom because u have to learn about tradition and how to follow army rules while in combat and stuff like that, but its more hands on than anything, almost everyday we were out in the field
