  • Sadly now a pile of rubble with weeds. Sad considering the great programmes that came from BBC Brum

  • OMG! Yul Brynner was on PMAO? I'd love to see that episode, does anyboy have it?? I also recognised Frankie Vallie, Sammy Davis Junior, Tony Christie, and Wendy Craig (My god, I'm only 37, I'm getting old before my time!)

  • I remember Pebble Mill as a very long wait before the Mr Men.

  • Thanks for posting this, do you have anymore of the footage of the Harrier Jump jet that appears at the end of this clip? My Dad appeared on the program when it came live from Farnborough Air Show .

  • @MrFoziy79 - look up the clip: "Last ever Pebble Mill at One (1986) part 2". I think it's in there.

  • This was when daytime magazine shows were informative and interesting. Now all you get is This Morning, which is filled with rubbish about Katie Price, reality shows and soaps. I really think the BBC should bring back something similar to Pebble Mill, though obviously the name would need to be different.

  • There was daytime TV in the 70s and 80s, it wasn't always the testcard.

  • I'm surprised that nobody has ever noticed that the original theme tune to Pebble Mill at One was ripped off from the song "Touch Me" by The Doors. One of the best UK TV themes to be written along with Dr. Who, Swap Shop and Jackanory. And some arrangements ought to be left as is without updates.

  • Hearing the voice of the late Donny Macleod again at the start really takes me back

  • I Love this Comment this bloke is right ! we were happier then ! Yeh stick your blueray

papermarioa People were a LOT happier in the 1970,s than they are now with all there fancy blu-ray shit etc etc and are we happy when we get our fancy 46 inch plasma screen tv with 843 channels to watch..

    Answer= NO

People used to go out more before the internet and interreact more before stupid naff mobile phones.

    The REAL World is outside!!!!

  • who was that from 0:46 on piano I know them but dont know their names

  • Hinge and Bracket!

  • thanks

  • Thank you so much for posting this!

How terrible the BBC destroyed such valuable and irreplaceable footage.

  • I loathed this programme so much as a kid! It was always on BBC1 just after Chockablock/You and Me/Postman Pat/Pigeon St had finished on BBC2 wasnt it?

  • God!

when pebble mill came on, it was time to go outside and do something less boring instead!

  • looking at this now, its difficult to imagine how on earth anyone managed to survive the seventies.

  • Any1 know if there are any clips from Saturday Night At The Mill?

  • Where is Acker Bilk?

He was at least on every other episode

  • What proportion of those do you reckon are dead??? Love the way an extension is spliced onto the music at 00.48. It's so nearly seemless!

  • @dunkiep I remember this was the theme at one point. I am not sure but I think it was the theme from 1981 or so, my mum always watched it.

  • I was on the show in 1975 but it was live and no recording was made or was destroyed ,,,damn shame!!!

  • RIP Pebble Mill

  • Nice to see John Conteh in tight combat pants too! ;-D

  • Hehee!! Great line

  • wow it's an old fashioned Richard & Judy :) - ok so i would watch this if i was ill and off from school... a sneek peek into the world of adulthood....at one!

  • It definitely wasn't as late as September 1982. I made a duplicate copy of this on a portable VHS recorder that I had for a short time from summer 81 until mid-82.

  • BBC have written telling me they do hold the de los Angeles Pebble Mill at One item, so not all is lost!

  • I've written to the BBC offering them this 9 minute operatic clip I have. Awaiting a reply. If they don't answer by the weekend, I'm going to bin it.

  • i think this was from september 1982 to celebrate its 10th birthday

  • VICTORIA de los ANGELES. I have a 7 minute item from Pebble Mill. Bet I'm the only person to own it. From the very early 80's. An aria by the famous soprano, followed by an interview with Natalie Wheen. Would BBC like to have it back, or should I ask them permission to put it on YouTube? It's in pristine condition, sound/colour. Bet it's the only one in the world. Maybe Natalie Wheen would like to have a copy? Musical public should have access to what is priceless material.SUGGESTIONS WELCOME.

  • They can't bring it back Pebble Mill was demolished a couple of years ago :-O

  • Such a shame really, Pebble Mill was one of a kind. :(

  • bring it back bbc

  • I totally agree with your comments on the BBC. For a company that were getting taxpayers money to provide a service for the whole of the UK to discard so much valuable material is totally irresponsible (and very short-sighted).
