What is a typical Kiwi meal? Sarah...Dont you miss Japanese food? Are you having a cultural clash while you are in Canada? When are you going back to Japan??? Regards, P
Well, it depends on what kind of kiwi you are ... hard question to answer.
I don't really miss Japanese food. (Although I'm looking forward to the tofu, natto and tasty Hokkaido daikon when I get back). I miss eating food straight out of the garden, like in Nelson!
Cultural clashes. Maybe a few. One thing that I still can't quite get my head around is tipping. It's so different from my (NZ/Japan) way of thinking about service.
That leads me to be nosey and ask how knf feels about potential culture clashes. He's native to Japan, right? I'm not sure if he'd done any extensive travel like you had, so I wondered if maybe life in Canada was a bit surreal for him. Sorry if that's too personal!
Yes, he was born in Tokyo and lived there all his life. I asked him your question and he said, yes, sometimes it's surreal. Especially since all of the places he's been before there were a lot of Asians (Hawaii, Bali etc).
And, in general, things are more surprising for him than for me, since Canadian culture is pretty similar to NZ. Also, I'm from the countryside in NZ, so small town life doesn't surprise me.

Nelson was the first place we went where there were almost no other Asians. He liked it :)
