The Ionian revolt caused more asian states to join the the conflict.. After the war was over Darius tried to attack Greece and the Athenians stopped them.

Alay, The Iranian army was much larger force than 10k, Xerxes did not stay to burn Athens, he left his general with a force of at least 25k to burn Athens as they did, so it had to have been at least 40 to 50k that he went with & left half to destroy what he sent out to do. No iranian army would invade with a small force of 10k, not reasonable.

I have to agree with you on that part... This was when Sparta was weak I do remember that the SPartans asked the persians for help... They used the persians to block Athens recourses and transportation... In the end yes Athens did burn to the ground. But after the battle of thermopylae nobody was there to protect athens and the ships took the warriors and citizens out of athens and the left the priests there so it was easy to take it over..But on the other part you are right about what you say

@uiopytrre, The entire point of the invasion was not to stay but to burn Athens, the Iranians did this & left Greece. It was all due to insults, people died for stupid things like this. Iran & Greece had a lot in common in many ways, we each influenced the other for generations. You can barley tell the difference between Greek, Iranian & Italian, thousand years of mixing & invading one another. Iran had the second largest Christian population after Rome but fights put a stop to it.

7000 greeks were at thermopylae, 1400 fought to the end. There is no evidence whatsoever that 300 spartans were among those 1400 remaining greeks. Leonidas may have died there for whom i have repect, but that is somewhat the only thing we are certain of. Besides, 7000 greeks with huge shields and spears packed up together in a narrow would obviously take several days to fight through.

The Persian army, alleged by the ancient sources to have numbered in the millions but today considered to have been much smaller (various figures are given by scholars ranging between about 100,000 and 300,000)

There are supposedly mass graves of 19,000 dead warriors there, somewhere in that narrow mountain pass. Archaeologists have been able to find a few arrowheads from that incident, but the colossal cemetery has somehow managed to elude discovery.
