Wow. Watching this vid was like jumping into a time machine. I remember the Windows 3.1 days. It wasn't very easy to get on the Internet with that telnet program (which was obviously designed for the BBS era) but then Windows 95 came out and Internet Explorer really simplified everything. It made me wonder why they hadn't thought of that previously, but really there wasn't a demand for something like that pre-1994.

I think Bill Gates and Paul Allen made alot of people's lifes easier just like Alexander Graham Bell and others invented the telephone back in March 1876 and it made all the people's lifes easier. Being 96, the real achievement around this time wasnt windows 95. As flashy as it was, it was still a multitasking shell over dos with a win32 api. NT4 however is the engine that made windows 2000 and in turn WinXP. It was actually a bloody great OS, and I'm a mac guy, so I'm pretty harsh on windows.

and imho steve jobs just grabbed the IDEA from xerox whereas bill grabbed the idea as well as "THE CODE" that makes the difference.

@RJWooller Windows is alive and kicking, but I think what people mean is the hype has gone out of desktop type machines towards portable devices. That said , I think the desktop OS will be around for some time yet.

Mark the section where Bill Gates says: "We provide with tools..." I think its very important concept to understand, "they provide "tools"" and they DO NOT intend to organize worlds information... Empowerment vs distribution of wealth... Microsoft therefore is more aligned towards true innovative capitalism as opposed to some of eerie cloud search companies who "want to "ORGANIZE" worlds information (Google is one) ...

Love him or hate him this guy is a genius. When he is gone his leadership and charisma will be missed and I don't if there will be someone who will "replace" that.
