Wow. Watching this vid was like jumping into a time machine. I remember the Windows 3.1 days. It wasn't very easy to get on the Internet with that telnet program (which was obviously designed for the BBS era) but then Windows 95 came out and Internet Explorer really simplified everything. It made me wonder why they hadn't thought of that previously, but really there wasn't a demand for something like that pre-1994.
Your "geniuos" is trying to infest whole Africa with GMO seeds.
Just as small information, GMO seeds do NOT give seeds, which makes farmers depend on seed supplier; they are proven to damage (infest) natural seeds; and they are proven to produce super-infection/bugs as result of higher resistance to pests.
Effects on human population are unknown, but GMO food has been allowed in US since 4 years and one of the most wide spread illnesses is CANCER.
Classic and funny interview and the best interview with Bill Gates. I love Bill Gates. He is smart and genius and he's a great guy. I think Bill Gates and Paul Allen made alot of people's lifes easier just like Alexander Graham Bell and others invented the telephone back in March 1876 and it made all the people's lifes easier. Bill Gates has big brain, big soul and big heart. And i'm having Asperger's syndrome or also called Asperger's disorder just like Bill Gates is suspected with it...
Being 96, the real achievement around this time wasnt windows 95. As flashy as it was, it was still a multitasking shell over dos with a win32 api. NT4 however is the engine that made windows 2000 and in turn WinXP. It was actually a bloody great OS, and I'm a mac guy, so I'm pretty harsh on windows.
@RJWooller Windows is alive and kicking, but I think what people mean is the hype has gone out of desktop type machines towards portable devices. That said , I think the desktop OS will be around for some time yet.
Mark the section where Bill Gates says: "We provide with tools..." I think its very important concept to understand, "they provide "tools"" and they DO NOT intend to organize worlds information... Empowerment vs distribution of wealth... Microsoft therefore is more aligned towards true innovative capitalism as opposed to some of eerie cloud search companies who "want to "ORGANIZE" worlds information (Google is one) ...
@Excelsoft I agree, even though I admire Steve jobs more than Bill Gates, but Bill Gates was more pragmatic about the whole concept, its like owning a wheel concept when its just an expression of an idea... Well who knows these things....
He spoke about charity and his vision 15 years ago and is executing it now. He is a man of his words . His vision and the discipline with which he achieved it , amazes me..
Love him or hate him this guy is a genius. When he is gone his leadership and charisma will be missed and I don't if there will be someone who will "replace" that.

The concept of "active desktop" that Bill is describing at 24:40 is finally realised in windows 8, almost 20 years after this initial vision.
