  • I'm very delighted by this virtuous fantastic musical interpretation with your amazing mandolin.

I appreciate so much your great skill

    Super bravo my friend Bernie!

  • super job, tks sir.

  • @moosehunterr Yes sir! Maple sugar! Wade Allen is another one who left us WAY too soon that man may have one of the best fiddlers ever I think.

  • A great job. Love Maple Sugar Time, the beautiful Mandolin and bouzouki and your playing is great. Thanks for the comment!

  • @Testaview Thanks so much for the kind words! Maple sugar has got to be one of my favorite fiddle tunes.

  • Bernie, your pickin' hand is a MACHINE! (that's a good thing)

  • @mgwhitehead Thanks for the kind words -- I'm not so sure that my picking is anything out of the ordinary -- but I will tell you that the pick grip I use now came directly from mistertaterbug (Mike Compton) when I was a workshop about 4 years ago -- best single piece of advice I ever got for the mandolin.

  • great rendition, im just learning this on banjo

  • @neillconnor

Thanks so much for the kind words -- I just visited and subbed your channel -- its great. Somewhat eclectic and cool if I might venture the comments. I'll spend a bit of time on your Vpipes stuff today.

  • WOW! That was fantastic! You really nailed it! Some fast licks in that one too!

  • @sizefam4 Thanks a million. Fun tune and a great fiddle tune. Take a listen to Mellisa St. Goddard's version on stgoddardmusic channel and then also listen to Wade Allen fiddle it -- it is on YT. Just a great great fiddle tune I think.

  • Very good,nice tune Bernie

  • @berrasvideo Thanks for the comment & so nice of you to stop by. Yes, it is a great great fiddle tune -- just for fun find the video of Ward Allen playing the tune on fiddle --- its on YT. It is an amazing thing.

  • Really nice. Great tune. One of my favorites, too. Thanks

  • @olmmbill Thanks so much -- he was a great loss at only 49 years of age -- lost at the height of his powers. I am learning a couple of other great Ward Allen tunes: Maple Leaf Two Step and Macton Reel now -- both great.

    Thanks for tuning in.

  • Very good, nice tune as well!

  • @cathal627 Thanks so much! Yes Ward Allen wrote a bunch of fiddle tunes -- I think this was his best but there are many other great ones. I finally have recordings of most of them -- they are tricky because he was a master at timing and so all of them have hooks which difficult to play well. (<:

  • You did a wonderful job Bernie, of keeping up. Love the song and your awesome picking. Thanks for sharing. Take care. Gwen

  • @cadjunk Thanks so much! As you can tell I really like that tune. I was very sorry and saddened to hear the information you sent me earlier about one of your group of pickers there. All the best, Bernie

  • Sounds great! You did an awesome job. Wish I could pick my mandolin that good. :)

  • @stgoddardmusic Thanks for listening Melissa! The version of Maple Sugar you posted at the Sam Steele Lodge was a brilliant and clean rendition of the song -- inspiring and I am sure Wade Allen would have more than approved. What is the band's name? We hope to drive our RV to Winnipeg this summer. I look forward to touring places like Brandon and Riding Mountain National Park again -- many fine hours spent on Clear Lake and the surrounds.....

  • The band that was backing me up in that video consisted of the Dutiame brothers from out here. Several of them are amazing fiddlers as well. Try searching Clint Dutiame ( he's the one on guitar). Im sure you'll find lots of great fiddle videos! @Mandolin1944

  • @stgoddardmusic I'm going to check that out thanks again! You have any CD's yourself?

  • Nice one amigo!

  • @GrumpyCoyoteTunes Thanks a lot. I have been meaning to go back over a lot of those tenor guitar and octave mandolin uploads you did to study the chord patterns and transitions you used. The way you use them to support your vocals is great!
