Why is the french guy so cocky? He's not done anything creative. He's just replicated the La Tour d'Argent menu whereas IC Chen took the ingredient to heart and really ran with it.
They choose the Iron Chef days before the battle takes place and gives the Iron Chef and Challenger a long list of potential themes so that they can give a heads-up notice as to what ingredients are needed in the Kitchen Stadium.
@Julalaxsa omg XD i'd love it if kaga-sama, fukui-san, hattori-san, kishi-san, asano-san and takata-san all came too!! XD i want all the iron chefs too! o3o
its not really a lack of respect persay, but american chefs are very competitive and the ones who are humble are morimoto, symon, and batalli. flay and cora and real cocky, rich kids growing up does that to you.
You are so right. I can't sit through an entire episode of Iron Chef America. The egos on that show are uncontrolable. I wish they had the confidence/good character to let the their food speak for itself.
I love how the Iron Chefs (no matter how wonderful they are) always say, "I did my best." I can only imagine the American version has chefs "talking smack" to each other after seeing the Bobby Flay episode.
Morimoto's a little cocky every now and then. I think it's that New York environment he's been in for a while that gives him a little extra moxie in his attitude: But overall: He's a humble, good-natured guy!
I think out of all of them, Kobe is the cockiest of them all in part, because he's the youngest of all the Iron Chefs. He's still pretty humble, but Kobe's youthful enthusiasm at times can go into over-confidence. It cost him the tuna battle where he lost badly to sommelier Shinya Tasaki.
@solord I remember that battle! He even went out of his way to say of the challenger "This is 'Iron Chef" not 'Iron Sommelier!" It showed that he may have been a little over confident in his abilities and thats what cost him the battle!
There was that one Sakai episode where it was some young Japanese cook talking smack, acting very cocky. I found that pretty surprising after watching so many of these and seeing how most of the cooks are so humble.
But that was just 1 guy though. heh
I don't think I've actually watched an entire episode of the American version...
Chen always says "I did my best, it's up for the judges to decide" haha love it

@PrometheanRunGood that's probably why he's confident...if he's using successful recipes. Go Chen!

yes, I agree, no respect in Iron Chef America, a very sad state of affairs.

I couldn't agree more. ICA has nothing on this!

That may be because if they did a battle Foie Gras, kitchen stadium would be swamped with protesters.
