  • So how much does it cost to replace them? I'm having the same problem right now with mine.

  • Thats easy... it's a problem with the Woosh Woosh Woosh under the hood.

  • hey i tighten my wingnut before everydrive because it always comes loose. any fix to keep it tight?

  • I know this video was posted three and half years ago. I was also having the same problem until recently. I replaced the serpentine belts but the tensioner was broken. I drive a 97 Maxima. The dealer asked me close to $500 for the tensioner, mind it Advance Auto, Auto Zone, Pep Boys don't carry this product. Any way I found that on Amazon for $70. I replaced the tensioner along with my Alternator (the alternator actually died). The sound is gone, when I turn on the A/C or in rain. :)

  • how the FUCK did u get so many views on this

  • @whizbot77

Because it appears to be a prominent problem with certain vehicles. Why are you here? I'm here because my 04 civic is screeching like a pterodactyl. I'm assuming that's the same reason 27000 other people viewed the video.

  • @whizbot77 because i am a fucking beast and you know it.

  • TURN OFF YOUR AC PROBLEM SOLVED LOL

  • i get that too everytime i start up my car when its cold

  • That sounds like the AC tensioner pulley, not the belt. To find out: Get a can of WD-40 and spray the back of it when its making the noise. If it stops, replace the tensioner pulley.

As far as the belts, just replace them. Replacing a belt on a 96-2000 Civic is incredibly easy, and the belt costs less than a week of Starbucks coffee.

  • sounds like the tensioner for the ac belt. you can just cut that belt off and not have ac and that should fix it or put a new tensioner on.

  • the remover of obstacles on your dash? :)

  • @d46512 Yes! glad you noticed! =D

  • change all ur belts u guys are worse then girls

  • dont put any waste of $ gimmick lotion on the belt. clean all your pulleys real good with a wire brush and brake cleaner, then replace the belt and tension it properly. research how to properly tension it. if it has been sqealing for awhile the pulleys become smooth and even a brand new belt on those smooth dirty pulleys will squeal.

  • I have the same car (engine, specifically). The damn ALT belt would do this because there's no tensioner for the alternator belt drive, so you basically have to tension it with ONE hand on the alternator's body, while your other hand is on the wrench, ready to tighten that bolt :(. So I never seem to get it tight enough. Finally got fed up and put a Gatorback belt on... fixed :).

Then my buddy said I should have used a prybar to apply tension, not my hand!! Lol.

  • i have an 09 is250 and i always check my car every month to see whats up with it... i usually apply stp belt dressing whenever i see my belts are getting brown

  • My car does the same thing, and as with others, only under cold or humid conditions. It IS the alternator belt and it may need to be replaced, tightened, or whatever else.

  • get a new belt

  • 1. The car hasnt warmed up - reason why its reving high

    2. The belt has either dew on it or is loose

    3. tighten the belt or replace it or spray some moisture repelant on it

    Simple...

  • from my understanding and experience, this is the alternator belt. gets worse when revving so loud and annoying and most of all embarrassing!

  • i think its just the belt, they really cheap to replace dude :)

  • this happened in my skyline last night at like 2am. Sorry neighbors haha.

  • My 2002 corolla did this..solution..get another car =8p..

  • it's your alternator belt, it's either loose or you need a new belt. Just need to take off 2 bolts to change it simple.

  • my civic makes the same noises so i bought the belts and ive been trying to replace them myself but to install the ac belt you have to remover an engine mount and the alternator is hard to reach and the power steering belt is easy

  • could be too tight, too loose or just glazed from being hot.

  • yes - the problem is one of the many belts in the engine - the serpentine belt. take it to your mechanic, he will either replace it or tighten it.

  • I am wondering you found what the problem was and fixed your car? I have a similar problem with my 01 Civic, and I am wondering you have any update for it.

  • Does this noise come and go? My car kinda makes a similar noise...always on start-up, and then it comes and goes as I drive. It's embarrasing, and I only drive now at night! lol....I need to get ti fixed, I know, but trying to wait a bit until I'm on vacation from work.

  • yes, it comes and goes. it becomes louder when it is humid or wet outside... for example when it rains.

It is eventually going to become really really really loud and even MORE embarrassing and you'll have to get it fixed. You'll see what i mean if you leave unfixed it long enough...

  • My car developed this after it got wet once and I tried ignoring it, 200 miles later the belt fell off and got shredded and one of my pulleys went out too.

  • yes mines doing the same thing humid and cold same situation. i recently tightend it but it still make the niose. i was wondering if you got yours fixed and if you could let me know what it. did you buy a new one or was it to loose or too tight? thanks for your time....

  • Your V belts may be slipping. Until you replace them, a quick fix to quite the squeals is to apply BELT DRESSING to the underside of each belt and pulleys. Let idle for a few minutes for even coating.

Your headlights are turning too, you can clear them up with wet-sanding (2000 grit) and headlight lense restorer.

  • Hey, thanks for the great advice. I'm actually heading over to autozone or pepboys soon anyways for more coolant fluid, so I'll pick those two up too! thanks again!

  • did the belt dressing work? i have the same problem. i need to know asap!

  • hey, umm.. i didnt really use it. i took it to my mechanic and he did some random thing to it and didnt charge me anything and the noise went away. its sort of coming back now actually...

so do u have a mechanic who gives u free services, tire rotations, extra shit? i guess i have good karma in that sense... so he just took care of it for me for free.

the belt dressing probably will work... althouhg if u have the same prob and its making crap loads of noise, get a new belt.

    good luck

  • i just baught the belt dressing today. i applied it and let it sit for a few minutes before driving. so far it hasnt made any funny noise since. pretty cool =D

  • @neofantomu it works just spray the dressing on the belt for about five seconds straight then leave the engine running for a little. you do have apply it on once every two days for about a month of so.

  • @awasey94 lol thanx for late reply. i actually got the belt dressing 2 years ago, never had a problem with this again.

  • your v-belts need replaced. i usually would replace both of them while ur at it.

  • hey, i still havent replaced anything yet... it still makes the noise, but usually when its raining or damp outside.

do u think the belt is going to break? anytime soon? wht happens when it does?

  • well the squeeking comes from the belt slipping on the pullys. it will eventually cause the belts to break and could pontentally cause your ac compressor to sieze up if the belt breaks due to the slipping. those belts do not cost that much to replace. when i had my timing belt done on my accord it cost me 600 for the timing belt, water pump, 2 vbelts, and a valve adjust. which is normal maintenence every 100k. but i wouldnt recommend going to much longer without getting them replaced.

  • just replacing the v belts should only cost you between 70 and 80 bucks

  • that's usually the A/C belt
