  • Great tune....i remember playing this in high school...so much fun...i shoulda never put down my Holton trumpet...sad...

  • Arturo Sandoval es un barbarooooo, impecable!... como dijo alguien, esta enfermo de algo jajaja!!! si si claro, enfermo de vida, enfermo de música bella, enfermo de potencia y alegría ejecutando!!!

  • Cladio sounds great.

  • the bass solo..howß???? let the people listen to it man.

    not complete

  • Estos tipos NO TIENEN PIEDAD !!! son algo realmente imposible de creer !!!!!!

  • Arturo is amazing, but I like Dizz. His solo is more melodious.

  • arturo sandoval lo maximo su impresionante sonido ...sus agudos... no no no..lo maximo lo maximo

  • someone needs to make a ska version of this!

    like that skatilates or something

  • wtf.....

  • Arturo...Heavyweight champion of the world!!! I wonder if there's a video of him and Maynard Ferguson playing together. Thanks for posting!

  • JAJAJAJAJA no puede ser posible!!! ARTURO!! ERES UN DIOS MAESTRO!! ESTAS ENFERMO DE ALGO!! ES VERDADERAMENTE INCREIBLE!! es estupendo!!!

  • My man arturo!!!!!!!!!

  • A BIG MISTAKE 7:44 JAJAJA THEY ARE HUMANS...sorry my english is bad

  • That bass solo is f-ing tasty!

  • Super Moody

  • Arturo un superdotado...tremendo el tipo...

  • awesome bass solo

  • what i like the most of arturo is his upper register... its unbelievable!!!!

  • but theres nothing better than a trumpet player with a clean controlled upper register as well as an excllent clean tone low register

  • i have a huge respect for all good trumpet players like dizzy, marsalis, ferguson, hubbard, brownand all the others but i think arturo's high and low register is something out of this world.....

  • A-R-T-U-R-O

  • its true, Arturo is a showoff because he is the king and nobody goes higher than him and nobody goes lower than him either.... He is a king in this business.

  • Jon Faddis goes higher

  • no, i don't think so. I've never heard a trumpet player playing higher than arturo...

  • look him up then... he owns arturo

  • cat anderson can go higher

  • look up Allen Vizzutti. Can play just as high or higher constantly. Fire Dance look it up. And i'd like to see what you ahve to say to that.

  • I know allan vizzutti. i own one of his trumpet schools. but dude, have you ever seen the second part of this video?! arturos last note is an OCTAVE higher than the highest note in firedance.

dude, im sorry but vizzutti not even get's close to arturo when it comes to high blowing...

like i said, never heard someone playing higher than him...

  • arturo sandoval does play a bit higher than Vizzutti after listening to both. But also look up Doc Severisen. he comes pretty close to Arutro.

  • actually the closet cats that come to the range that arturo displays here are guys like cat anderson, jon faddis, bud briois, maynard ferguson(whatch the you tube video of maynard ferguson playson playing maynard, displays extreme range control)

  • Puede ser cierto...pero arturo tiene un mejor sonido , y mas lexico en sus solos

  • Arturo goes higher!

  • mbe mendes can level with arturo faddis is in top 20

  • mmm NO, ARTURO SANDOVAL GOES HIGHER

  • no seriously all he's doing is trying to prove that he's better than 72 year old dizzie

  • that's what i was thinking, but then what kind of professional would he be?

so it wasn't intentional im guessing...........

  • I never realised Arturo was such a show-off. He's good nonetheless.

  • Arturo plays the drums!

  • your mom

  • awesome!!!

  • Where does Arturo get his chops from?

  • Diz ;)

  • poor dizzy.

  • claudio roditti is incredible

  • This is one of the jazz sesion more impressive. Ignacio Berroa, Geovanny Hidalgo,Sandoval,Dizzy, Claudio Roditti,Paquito D'Rivera I can't stop watching it.

  • I'm still remember jamming/jazz in Cuba with Paquito D'Rivera and Arturo,Averoff, etc.,in the Rio Club..the drummer is also cuban Ignacio Berroa.Dr. Zaragemca,(Gerry Zaragemca, is a world's known authority in Afrocuban Percussion and Music.

  • best solo by claudio, arturo too... lol

  • haha when arturo goes up, the expression on his face after the high run said that "playtime was over and its arturo's turn!"

  • What a show! Arturo most inspiring. This very gig has made me a better trumpeter, thanks!!

  • Who is that trumpet player playing the solo after dizzy? Very impressive

  • Claudio Roditti

  • wow. i dont even know why i'm writing it...but your all crazy..yeah it's fast but it's perfect and all the licks are crazy. it's not just notes one after the other the faster he can. it's music...real music

  • arturo got a range like no other. Maynard Ferguson can get up in the stratosphere too...

  • I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks that wasn't an impossibly amazing solo is and idiot, moron, retard, etc. etc. You all couldn't do it if you practiced the trumpet for twenty years. and i can guarantee that. I don't care who you are.

  • and besides, dont critique someones work if you cant do the same or better. why dont you go back to playing runescape and hanging out with your mom in your basement dude while the rest of us talented musicians continue to strive to be as good as him and Dizzy one day.

  • lets think for a second, you think Arturo's solo was bad along with about half the people that commented. Arturo's solo is to your bitching in a way. thats what he does, and thats what you obviously do. Arturo does that, because very few can, he has that much talent. you cant just pick up a trumpet and immediatly begin to play a super C. its called practice, Arturo can do that because he practices, you can bitch because thats what you do all the time. Arturo is the shiz, your a piece of shit

  • It just goes to show, just because a solo is fast, doesn't mean it's good! Arturo Sandoval is a good player, but he just played the Flight of the Bumblebee with slight variations. By the way, who is the second trumpet player? He was awesome!

  • Eltio parece un pez globo jajaja.S un buen truco para guardar aire, peroa veces suena mal la trompeta :(

  • awesome bass solo...

    =)

  • Does anybody know the name of the drummer?

  • ignacio berroa

  • James Moody

  • who is the guy that did the sax solo?

  • omg arturo is way off.. the other trumpet-dude played music.

  • I love it.

  • yeah he can play fast and high, but what horrible solo!

  • arturo is a best

  • 7:45 uuppss

  • Who was the other cat playing the trumpet solo?

  • His name is Claudio Roditi.

  • why don't we just enjoy it?

i think this is a performance,

and though it may not be "great music,"

    he's making the audience fun,

    isn't he?

  • wtf?

    this is GREAT MUSIC

  • i meant, i do not actually know what "great music" is. so, i envy of your confidence.lol

anyway, you don't have to use dirty words, LADY.

  • Moody waters est excellent mais le son de son alto me semble aggressif sûrement du au bec métal

  • Amazing alto solo!

  • Somebody has been practicing flight of the bumble bee...lol awesome solo Arturo...

  • Yup... Absolutely incredible!

  • As amazing as the videos on youtube are of Arturo, he has done crazier things. I've heard him play the entire range of a piano on trumpet. He's one of maybe 4 or 5 guys to ever be able to do that.

  • does that make him a great musician?

    don't think so

  • Actually, yeah it does. Have you actually listened to his stuff? Unless you feel like you can top what he does, I would stay silent

  • i have all of his records!

i think you should be silent

    Go and eat

  • The trumpet player that played before Arturo was off the hook. Excellent Solo.

  • Great clip, this. And Arturo, Jesus, he knocked the hell out of the house. He could've used a bit more long notes, maybe a few rests here and there to give it a break, but damn, no one can criticize his playing.

  • All I have to say is at 6:28 on this vid everyone ducked and ran for cover!!!!! Oh my God. Auturo is off the hook

  • who is playing the bass??? beautifull!!!!

  • Dizzy's solo sounds like shit. He should have gone for something simpler with more meaning. Playing fast don't mean much. Can't figure out why so many jazz players go for that. Maybe it covers for the lack of ideas.

  • That was just Dizzy. He helped pioneer the "bee-bop" style that he and Arutro used. But I gotta say this: you sure know when Arturo's hit the mic.

  • Dizzy knew every note that he played. You are just mad because you can't hear them so it sounds like noise to your unrefined ear.

  • Your comment shows you know very little about Jazz, and have listened to, at least attentatively, none. But your in luck, Kenny G is widely available. Go eat a cheese sandwich!

  • This comment was aimed at another, for some reason it showed up on page one, instead of as a response to a comment currently on page 5. Apologies.

  • WTF HAX!

  • Some of you people criticizing Dizzy's playing here need to remember that at this point in his career he was past his prime and he was having some kind of physical problem that kept him from attempting the high notes like Arturo Sandoval and Claudio Roditi were doing. He was basically a bandleader at this point in his career.

  • DON'T KNOW!!! to me Arturo Sandoval can play high, really high and that's all!! just compare Caudio Roditti's solo full of flavor against non sense fast notes to much to really find a way Sandoval's solo. Great entrance but did it make sence with the song??? it was just high and fast!!!

Do not get me wrong he is a great player, not the best musician!!!!

  • Are you kidding me? How can anyone have the balls to even say that Maynard Ferguson is even in the same ballpark as Sandoval????? Maynard Ferguson was a novelty, many top college students can out play the best stuff he recorded. I've seen both in concert, therefore i know. Go listen to your stupid birdland record, 12345a.

  • A novelty item? Listen to some of his recordings from the 50s before you make a fool out of yourself again. Even with his more commercial stuff he had a sound that nobody could match, and certainly not "many top college students". Study a little bit more before you try to make someone else feel stupid.

  • Ya dude, nobody can say anything bad about Maynard. Arturo looked up to him just like the rest of us. So just because Maynard was a novelty to you just means that you have no taste.

  • Arturo is a beast on the trumpet!!! That entrance was amazing and outrageous!!!! Those notes are INSANE and he does it with control!!!

  • Arturo is such a monster!!!

  • hey may be a monster but maynard is now and forever the king. along with cat anderson

  • jajaja Dios mio no cabe duda que Dios si existe con estos grandes personajes

  • who is playing on bass ?

  • I think his name is jonh lee. he's been w/ dizzy back then and maybe his alumni band.

  • does anybody know who the drummer is...?

  • pretty sure it's ignacio berroa...

  • Gillespie, Arturo Sandoval...and Paquito D'Rivera too!!! Don't even think to overlook 'im!!! Monstruos del mejor jazz-fussion, caballero!

  • Amazing bassist!! Very melodic solo!

  • This is the best I have ever heard this song played! Absolutely Awesome!

  • im always not happy with content of what arturo is playing but everybody else near him are nervous smoking bambook. So much power and technique lol.

  • ARTURO SANDOVAL! The best of Cuba and the Best of the world! Long live to the king Arturo!

  • did Dizzy really mess up at 7:43? That was kind of a huge error, maybe im just hearin things!

  • what kind of horn does the claudio dude have any ideas?

  • your mom isnt the only one with huge cheeks.

  • Jesus, who's trumpet soloist before Arturo. Not only does he have a sweet hair cut, but he has the best solo on this tune.

  • That would be Claudio Roditi, i own the DVD and he stole the show. The guys awesome!

  • hahaha.....at 6:40 arturo seems to be doing "flight of th bumblebee." good one arturo.

  • Haha i noticed that too.

  • étonnant !

  • post part 2!

  • LMFAO, I will , its just that im lazy, but since u point it out, I will. Thanks for the reminder

  • does anyone know where i can get this dvd or what the title of this dvd or video is?

  • Jazz Legends - Arturo Sandoval - Live at the Brewhouse Theatre, England 1992

  • onde está o resto desta apresentação?

  • ya lo voy a poner aqui ahora, hahaha

  • The solo order (of wind instruments in this video) goes like this: JAmes Moody (Alto), Dizzy, Claudio Roditi (Trumpet), Arturo.

  • I like james moody but I wasn't impressed by his atissimo range. Great sax player but I've heard great atissimo playing from guys like Brecker, Garret, Phil Woods, Sanborn, James Carter. But I didn't understand where he was coming from. he is a badass but I didnt feel that.

  • The first alto soloist (1:55 to 3:13) ISN'T Paquito; Paquito's the alto player in the white jacket. BTW, is the trumpet soloist at 5:00 Claudio Roditi?

  • Thanks!!!

  • does anyone know who the alto sax soloist is?

  • Paquito De Rivera

  • Any one know what mothe peace size he is useing

  • he guys

    they are all monster player

  • i had this DVD... i lost it aaaah

  • good point Lmoretti22...but those are the ones that havent played with one of the giants of jazz...and we DO have to the public, but if you can image the vast mokority of people in the world start listenng to jazz...won't jazz loose its luster?...the fact that everybody listens to jazz will indeed, in my opinion, make jazz a little less interesting to most people...i mean hip hop is popular, but not as much as it used to be...the same thing might happen to jazz...

  • The Bass solo was fluid and interesting he played within the chord structure, played it percussively and kept it simple. What is it that you guys thik he should have done?

  • el mejor concierto de jazz que se haya visto en años... disfruten señores

  • bass solos are not boring if you know about jazz...and if the bass player is good...period...so to all you teen agers that think you know jazz....think again...

  • Isn't music supposed to be appealing to the ear without straining to understand all the technical aspects of the art? I dont think the bass solo was all that great and I play jazz. If we want jazz to make it on the same level of popularity as rock, R&B, rap etc., then we should make it sound appealing to all listeners. Not just the jazz musicians. Besides when jazz musicians listen to jazz musicians, they all talk about how much better they could have played the piece. What up wit dat!

  • Do you want to make a great steak restaurant as popular as MacDonalds? There's a place for both, but don't try to make Houston's steak house more popular by servin' some chicken nuggets.

And, umm, Kobe could dunk over Oscar Peterson today (2008). That's comparing Arturo and Dizzy. Dizzy's almost 70 at this show... Give the man some dignity - he earned it over 65 years ago when he cut Roy Eldrige.

The truth: no Dizzy, no Arturo.

  • preach it brotha

  • gosh. should read "Kobe could dunk over Oscar ROBERTSON today." oops.

  • i do not think that arturo's playing is tasteless. he is just saying what hes got to say.

  • hurry up and post the part 2!!!

  • Arturo is an incredible trumpet player technically and his piano playing is superb as well. HOWEVER, when you take a solo...often it's best to start slow and build.

I prefer a more lyrical melodic soloist as opposed to screamers and 32nd note run ons.

Oh and by the way...bass solos are boring.

  • Men it depends who is playing the bass. This guy right here does a good bass. You have to be a musician like me to be able to understand it.

  • good bass solos aren't boring, don't talk shit

  • floozyd this was very late in Dizzy's carrier, in other words yes he was passed it. TBH i found some of Arturos playing to be a little tasteless. Claudio Roditi is the other trumpet player who was amazing!

  • I agree with you, But still I think that Arturo is better than Dizzy. Even when he was young. I like Arturo because he creates "SWING".

  • I'm sorry but i don't agree with you. Dizzy and Charlie Parker were the Bebop innovators. What of Arturo's has changed the musical world?

  • idk man, arturo is good, but because he idolized dizzy! plus, dizzy has overall better musical phrasing, here we see basic arturo going nuts, but i love it. ppl go out and find better recordings for dizzy and arturo, ik on "sing sang sung" by the gordon goodwind band, arturo has a much better solo.

  • you will be able to see why, when i post PART 2

  • you are an idiot... you'll never be able to play like that so stop talking..

  • wow, if i was dizzie i would be thinkin..."holy crap, the other two trumpeters did much better solos than me, AND I WROTE THE PIECE!!" how embarrassing!

of all the clips ive seen of this concert, dizzie has been reeeaaally disappointing! arturo rips it all the way through, he is my new god!!

    awsum post here!

  • im sure on top of that, he'd be thinking "omg they are half my age too!"

  • those are some ripping solo's moody's my favourite sax of all time without a doubt. I absoloutly love caludio's style when he plays it's just amaizng and check out his neck while he plays. that guy knows how to use his air. arturo's somehting else, I love the flight of the bumblebee lick. such a good concert thanks for the post

  • Arturo!

  • Holy shit, it's Dizzy Gillespie, the guy who wrote that piece 60 years ago!

  • Great music never gets old. It's great to see Dizzy with his "Cuban Son". ;-)

  • Indeed!

  • I got the 2nd part but i will post it later

  • wow lo maximo
