@Taxi502 I respectfully disagree...if you watch at 1:47 on the video you can even see Cornell play it from G (5th fret bar with the third finger) to F (3rd fret bar) to Bbsus2.
Can anybody tell me what are the two chord he plays when he sings "wash away the rain". I have tabs but those 2 chords are wrong from my tabs. HELP PLEASE
It's such an honor to still see Chris going strong. I was just getting into music as a little kid when I first saw black hole sun and was blown away by his voice. Out of the very underrated and talented seattle grunge scene, he's such nostalgia every time he performs. Chris Cornell...keep playing the music!
Cornell should really cut out the Timbaland hip hop bullcrap. That new Cd was just plain awful. Cornell is one of my favorite singers ever, but he's proven time and time again that he is a product of the great musicians he's worked with. His solo albums have been mostly garbage, compared with SG and Audioslave's first album.
You hit it on the head dude. He's an amazing vocalist (my favorite as a matter of fact), but mediocre at best with his solo material. And yah, I respect him for stepping out and trying new stuff (with Timbaland) but most would agree it was a disaster.
This song is too tragic. The music sounds great though. Instead this song should be about humans and animals gaining superpowers once the sun is turning into a black hole, and flying off into space, visiting friendly planets and passing on their superpowers. Who thinks this is a cool idea for the song and the video? Please comment.
I grew up listening to Soundgarden and I have recently really studied Cornell then vs Cornell now. I really believe hes a far better singer now than he was then. True he had more raw anger in the old days and thats what the haters on here miss. But we all grow up and mature. I love his current stuff. And yes, I have seen him perform live then (1993) and now (last summer).
It is my opinon that Cornell's composition has mellowed down quite a bit recently. The chord progressions aren't bizarre and so much innovative anymore (like this one for example). Now he does open major and minor chords, in a very conventional way (Like a Stone, I am the Highway). On the flip side his singing is as good as ever and so are his lyrics, its just that the young composition genius in him has dried out, happens to everyone and it can always come back if he finds the right inspiration.
He sure does. I saw him in LA 5-3-09 He even did Ozzie song that was awsome. You will hear mainly his older stuff at his concerts ie soundgarden, audioslave, temple of the dog. I think he did 4 songs off new album screem at LA show. Oh by the way if you are not likin that album his live stuff sounds great a lot different to the stuff on the final album. Either way my friend you will love show. He still kicks major ass!!! Jason
has aaron lewis killed himself yet? haha... Cornell tears it up still man, so much emotion in his voice... and I second Mark Lanegan... alot of emotion there too
What is so amazing about Cornell is that there is so much emotion in his voice. Notice how he sings this song deliberately flat to convey the sadness. He is a good singer in technique but an even greater one in musicianship. Cornell and Scott Weiland are the two rock musicians that stand out to me in this respect, the latter more so for his songwriting.
Mark Lanegan has a genious voice, that's true. But it's a differend kind of a voice. I like them both and wouldn't compare, they give me different emotions.
listen aaron lewis is good but he doesnt have near the range chris cornell has chris has been around alot longer anyone over 25 or so well tell you the same i just found this out a little earlier than most
Who cares? All of them, Eddie Vedder, Leyne Stayley, Chris Cornell, Aaron Lewis etc they can all sing really well so why argue? lol I just think its kinda think its pointless...thats all
Thom Yorke should be included in any discussion on the greatest singers of the "grunge era".. Yorke and Cornell are in top 3 imo.. and just want to mention that Vedder's voice went downhill in a big way after Vitalogy (or maybe it was No Code, I don't remember)

You're an idiot. If you listen to his cover of Simple man you would realize that he is singing it a half step up from Lynard Skynards version and beltin it. If you don't know anything about musical talent don't post. Brent Smith's pure talent Chris Cornell is also pure talent to not put them in the same group is a disgrace to them both and proving you're retarded.

Well, first off, proving that YOU are a "retard" is quite simple. I mean, just look at your innate inability to formulate a coherent english sentence. Secondly, Smith may have "belted" it out, but he ruined a classic. He over indulged and made a real fool of himself, but I wouldn't expect a person who spells it "Lynard Skynard" to know that. Once again, don't even think about grouping him with the greats like Cornell. Hey, I think your mother is calling you for supper. Run along now.

idiot, go actually listen to scott weiland singing, soemthing like plush acoustic, it's not even close, weilands range beats vedders and so what his voice is a bit gruff at the lower notes, it still doesnt sound like vedder
both have awesome voices and yes cornells voice is sweet
I think u'll find the best vocalist belongs to Jeff Buckley, who Chris Cornell based his album on and are also friends. Buckley's range is far more elastic than Cornell's. But Jeff's dead so how do we define best.
I just saw him live 2 days ago and he truly has the best voice of all time. I have nothing but respect for the man. I don't care about any other concerts after his. You won't either when you see him live.
No way, Lewis couldnt hold a candle to Cornell. He doesnt have the voice and doesnt have the writing skills. Keep in mind Cornell isnt young ne more, alot of factors go into it. Watch older videos if you really wanna see it.
I love chris but arron lewis is a much better singer! just type in his name and watch his video's. After watching arron's videos i think this video kinda stinks.
I"ve seen chris with sound garden for bad motorfinger and a few more tours and they where great. chris is a great studio singer but sings off key a lot when he's live. Have you ever seem them live jackass!
it has nothin to do with this.. cornell is still a better singer..or at least he was when he wrote black hole sun and most of his performances of this song is better than when lewis sings it
Arron did"nt sing this song and I love chris with sound garden. But arrow blows chris away solo. just check out the tool, sober cover or piano man cover. that guy can sing anything awesome. Check it out on utube. Then get back with me.
I saw soundgarden at Rock City years ago and Chris Cornell was awesome then and he still is. This was the best version of Black Hole Sun I have heard. Love it.

nah, Chris Cornell is the best- soundgarden was and always be an awesome band~!~

Arron Lewis is MONOTONISH!!!!!! He sings in the same tone for every song....

no way,, I think Cornell has a better voice than lewis,, BUT,, I think Scott Weiland is better, LOL,, Cornell and Weiland have the best voices..
f1guy76 4 years ago
No way, Lewis couldnt hold a candle to Cornell. He doesnt have the voice and doesnt have the writing skills. Keep in mind Cornell isnt young ne more, alot of factors go into it. Watch older videos if you really wanna see it.

I"ve seen chris with sound garden for bad motorfinger and a few more tours and they where great. chris is a great studio singer but sings off key a lot when he's live. Have you ever seem them live jackass!
gup2112 4 years ago
it has nothin to do with this.. cornell is still a better singer..or at least he was when he wrote black hole sun and most of his performances of this song is better than when lewis sings it

Arron did"nt sing this song and I love chris with sound garden. But arrow blows chris away solo. just check out the tool, sober cover or piano man cover. that guy can sing anything awesome. Check it out on utube. Then get back with me.
