  • Spot on...

  • Chris Cornell is God.

  • are these stripped sessions recordings available on CD? If so i need it.

  • @PepperRoni20 This version is available on his album "The Roads We Choose"

If you look hard on the Pirate Bay, you'll find it.

  • @manfistoffury thanks for the reply man, appreciate it

  • @PepperRoni20 No problem

  • What Happened to MUSIC...?????

  • @bbbibo9700 it got JustinBibberED ....

  • So awsum!!!!!

  • Cornell's voice is just unreal man dam

  • dude's a bard

  • @andre230994 He's using drop D tuning.

@Taxi502 I respectfully disagree...if you watch at 1:47 on the video you can even see Cornell play it from G (5th fret bar with the third finger) to F (3rd fret bar) to Bbsus2.

  • The three chords on "wash away the rain" are G to F to Bbsus2

  • @Marquis1218 its actually G to A to Bb or you can also play it G to A to C

  • Can anybody tell me what are the two chord he plays when he sings "wash away the rain". I have tabs but those 2 chords are wrong from my tabs. HELP PLEASE

  • @andre230994 Man... use google -> Black Hole Sun chords. It's not that hard.

  • @rnocon Best comment ever. xD

  • @gUiTaRfReAk13550 lol haha shut up! I don't like people making me laugh when I'm angry haha

  • @gUiTaRfReAk13550 You're a sad prick to post something like that

  • Soundgarden is back togeather genius

  • I wish Soundgarden would get back together, they rock!

  • @rnocon doesnt everybody

  • I think he could have add ed some more cool guitar tricks to this unplugged version

  • he's so damn good !!

  • This man stirs deep emotions inside with his gorgeous voice and face! HOT!

  • the man can sing.. theres no high note for this dude.. but hes even powerful on acoustic.. very talented

  • Man I wish music was still like this

  • Reminds me of Lindsey Buckingham!

  • he is tuned to drop d you monkey

  • aaron lewis is terrible.

  • Aaron Lewis is the man.

    You're dumb as fuck.

He was voted 39 on best rock singers of all time asshole.

  • No he is not terrible at all

  • It's such an honor to still see Chris going strong. I was just getting into music as a little kid when I first saw black hole sun and was blown away by his voice. Out of the very underrated and talented seattle grunge scene, he's such nostalgia every time he performs. Chris Cornell...keep playing the music!

  • Soundgarden got back together on New Years for a tour, in case you haven't heard.

  • he should be tuned to dropped d (dadgbe)

  • thanks!

  • ANYONE KNOW WHAT HIS GUITAR IS TUNED IN? eadgbe?

  • @MrVENICEBEACH drop D

  • Cornell should really cut out the Timbaland hip hop bullcrap. That new Cd was just plain awful. Cornell is one of my favorite singers ever, but he's proven time and time again that he is a product of the great musicians he's worked with. His solo albums have been mostly garbage, compared with SG and Audioslave's first album.

  • You hit it on the head dude. He's an amazing vocalist (my favorite as a matter of fact), but mediocre at best with his solo material. And yah, I respect him for stepping out and trying new stuff (with Timbaland) but most would agree it was a disaster.

  • what???????

  • i think the new stuff's pretty wank but Cornell's got a fukn unreal voice, amazin. and just as good live.

  • thats true.....sometimes when I sing with passion and emotion....I automatically hit the right notes....it's surreal

  • I grew up listening to Soundgarden and I have recently really studied Cornell then vs Cornell now. I really believe hes a far better singer now than he was then. True he had more raw anger in the old days and thats what the haters on here miss. But we all grow up and mature. I love his current stuff. And yes, I have seen him perform live then (1993) and now (last summer).

  • It is my opinon that Cornell's composition has mellowed down quite a bit recently. The chord progressions aren't bizarre and so much innovative anymore (like this one for example). Now he does open major and minor chords, in a very conventional way (Like a Stone, I am the Highway). On the flip side his singing is as good as ever and so are his lyrics, its just that the young composition genius in him has dried out, happens to everyone and it can always come back if he finds the right inspiration.

  • Great song'

  • the grunge voices are better when they're olding...

  • oh you're so right.

  • @conraydo what???

  • åoppio

  • top 5 voices in music right there.. Arguably the best ...

  • IMO this is the best acoustic version of BHS thats out.

  • What a voice. I would give my right bollock to be able to sing like that.

  • Hell I would give my third nut!!! And I have too!!!

  • @THALIDO I'd happily hand over my left.

  • Comment removed

  • he puts some old stuff in the show?

    i'm going next month..

  • He sure does. I saw him in LA 5-3-09 He even did Ozzie song that was awsome. You will hear mainly his older stuff at his concerts ie soundgarden, audioslave, temple of the dog. I think he did 4 songs off new album screem at LA show. Oh by the way if you are not likin that album his live stuff sounds great a lot different to the stuff on the final album. Either way my friend you will love show. He still kicks major ass!!! Jason

  • fucking amazing!

Does anyone have the tabs from this unplugged version?

  • has aaron lewis killed himself yet? haha... Cornell tears it up still man, so much emotion in his voice... and I second Mark Lanegan... alot of emotion there too

  • Awesome

  • What is so amazing about Cornell is that there is so much emotion in his voice. Notice how he sings this song deliberately flat to convey the sadness. He is a good singer in technique but an even greater one in musicianship. Cornell and Scott Weiland are the two rock musicians that stand out to me in this respect, the latter more so for his songwriting.

  • Brittainy Spears beat all of them!!! Oh hey did anyone catch the Vanilla Ice/MC Hammer concert it was dope YO!!!!

  • Mark Lanegan has a genious voice, that's true. But it's a differend kind of a voice. I like them both and wouldn't compare, they give me different emotions.

  • dude, fuck aaron lewis! chris sings like a mother fucker, aaron lewis whines

  • Chris Cornel is amazing! Great acoustic album!!

  • One big thing grunge always had going for it were the amazing voices.

  • amazing

  • Bring back the 90's. Music is shit now

  • @wayne071079 I second to that bro.

  • @wayne071079 90's music rules...especially 90's rock...i love the 90's

  • @wayne071079 You mean 70's or you are kidding, yeah?

  • listen aaron lewis is good but he doesnt have near the range chris cornell has chris has been around alot longer anyone over 25 or so well tell you the same i just found this out a little earlier than most

  • Who cares? All of them, Eddie Vedder, Leyne Stayley, Chris Cornell, Aaron Lewis etc they can all sing really well so why argue? lol I just think its kinda think its pointless...thats all

  • LAYNE Staley, you had the right idea though.

  • haha layne better than chris man that's funny but not true. if anyone offers competition its aaron lewis.

  • Your so wrong lol

  • well y'know.. it ain't opera is it?

  • I miss the good 90's songs

  • I think Cornell and Staley were probably the best vocalists ever...

    ~Myke

  • 통기타 하나만으로 저런 풍부한 감성이 저런 음악적 재능이 참으로 부럽습니다

  • Great song! Chris Cornell is a genius!

You can find the complete tab of this performance at ultimate-guitar:

    ultimate-guitarDOTcom/tabs/s/soundgarden/black_hole_sun_acoustic_tab.htm

    have fun :]

  • chris cornell is great, no doubt about it!

freddie is/was the best. nuff said.

  • truth.

  • wow NEVER heard of freddie mercury crazy

  • No.

  • Thom Yorke should be included in any discussion on the greatest singers of the "grunge era".. Yorke and Cornell are in top 3 imo.. and just want to mention that Vedder's voice went downhill in a big way after Vitalogy (or maybe it was No Code, I don't remember)

  • I agree, Yorke has sadly gone unnoticed. It's a shame because he has a great range and puts a lot of emotion into his music.

  • One word for you. Dead.

  • true, the 90's had some AMAZING vocalists. I wan't to know what happened to talented rock musicians. all the ones nowadays are whiney and suck musically.

  • yeah but their are a few good ones like Cold, Breaking benjamin, Staind and a few more which i forgot. but definately the 90's had amazing vocalist

  • lets disscus who the best singer ever is...i think its this guy

  • why on every cornell video is there some stupid discussion about whos the best singer ever? just shut up and listen

  • well it certainly helps that he's up there on that list.

But yeah, it's a dumb point to argue.

  • Ahh good old Soundgarden days...Cornell is a god!

  • Great acoustic performance!

    Thx Audioslave Latino!

  • Check out the following songs if you want to hear examples of the amazing vocals from Shannon R.I.P., Layne R.I.P., or Andrew R.I.P.

    Blind Melon - Change (Letterman)

Alice in Chains - Down in a Hole unplugged

Mother Love Bone - Chloe Dancer

  • Personally, I am a HUGE fan of Cornell, Smith, and Maynard... but talking about the greatest singers of our time without mentioning Shannon Hoon, Layne Staley, or Andrew Wood doesn't sit well with me. (I grew up in the Seattle/Grunge years, so "our time", for me, starts there) If they hadn't left us so soon, well, one can only dream about the music we'd be listening to today...

  • were you drunk or something?

  • He always hurries the timing when hes solo.

It ruins the feel of the song imho.

  • agreed, try doing it after him tho :D

  • Well,Chriss is the one of the strongest and most brilliant personalities of grunge and rock as a whole. He wrote and performed most of the Soundgarden masterpieces,he write, compose and perform...He's got unbelivable voice. He can sing Ave Maria and scream....pure genius for me.

  • You're going to group SHINEDOWN's singer with Chris Cornell? Are you kidding me? Please... no... Just no... Need proof that the kid isn't even a 10th of Chris Cornell? Listen to their cover of Simple Man.

  • dude ur a tool

a self righteous ass hole as it seems to me

  • chris can sing tom can play chris+tom=good music you can feel how deep it is

  • broken wings is my favorite alter bridge song

  • kinklevitchian, MillCityMADMAN, thank you having a civilized discussion about singers with degrading into a bunch of babbling idiots. That's really rare on YouTube. I salute the two of you.

Also, this is my favorite version of this song. I'm learning guitar again just so I can play it.

  • i know right? i agree.

its always the same with ignorant folks

    "i dnt like this song"

    "well fuck your mother then!"

    a shame for society

  • Agreed, dont forget Maynard from TOOL

  • This song could use a little sound garden!

  • i agree with him and im a musician and singer...Vedder is vastly over rated and Cornell can sing cirles around him but then again Cornell can do that to just about everyone except brent smith and myles kennedy

  • ugotpimp....you suck....

  • Vedder sucks balls. Has little range. But hes got a passion which counts for something.

Listen to hunger strike by temple of the dog and listen to cornell sing freaking circles around eddie who is reduced to just some mumblings. It was crystal clear that Eddie couldnt dream of hanging with a real talented vocalist.

that being said, Flea once commented that Perry Ferrel has the worst voice in rocknroll but is the best singer in rock.

  • i <3 this song! i can play it on electric && acoustic guitar.. Chris Cornell! <3

  • ill try that ryn..THX.

  • Guys check out brent smith of shinedown..

He' ranks right up there with the vocal talent.

imo brent is 1. cornell is 2. lmao @ aaron lewis beating cornell though.

  • check out the band alter bridge and listen to their acoustic video's their singer Myles I THINK is better than both brent and cornell, and i love both shinedown and Cornell...check him out

  • respect.

  • ummm i have the tabs for this song (powet tab) and if you tune all the guitar strings whole-step down than you can play it much more eseily.

well, it works for me anyway =P

  • after all those years of screaming youre voice wont be the best either.

  • this my alltime favorite song with chris cornell/soundgarden nothing wrong with his voice it's just what makes him good singer

  • it is most def dropped D

  • sik song Chris never should've left Soundgarden

  • lol hey neo, you are probably thinking of Scott Stapp from creed, scott weiland sounds nothing like eddie vedder. STP's music is grunge and so is Pearl Jam, those are the only similarities between them.

  • It's a stupid argument. If Jeff Buckley sang this song, it would sound rubbish. If Chris Cornell sang Last Goodbye it would song rubbish.

You can't say one singer is better than the other in the same way you can say one guitarist is better than another because everyone's voice sounds different.

He's got a fucking sweet voice and that's all you need to say about it. Other people do to... They're not better or worse, just different.

  • opinions..we all got different ones, and they're all ok,but the fact that 1 person thinks cornell has the best voice, does'nt make that true.although i love his voice, who am i to say he beats all the others?people need to realize that and not fight about the opinions of others.

  • Yep, pretty much. But he is great though. :)

  • yeh you're right, weiland snuck into vedders hosue and stole his voice while he was sleeping...

idiot, go actually listen to scott weiland singing, soemthing like plush acoustic, it's not even close, weilands range beats vedders and so what his voice is a bit gruff at the lower notes, it still doesnt sound like vedder

both have awesome voices and yes cornells voice is sweet

  • The song. Indeed don't be tricked by His looks, He's older than You'd think, and still He amuses.

  • he has the greatest voice ever

  • nah, Chris Cornell is the best- soundgarden was and always be an awesome band~!~

  • I think u'll find the best vocalist belongs to Jeff Buckley, who Chris Cornell based his album on and are also friends. Buckley's range is far more elastic than Cornell's. But Jeff's dead so how do we define best.

  • I just saw him live 2 days ago and he truly has the best voice of all time. I have nothing but respect for the man. I don't care about any other concerts after his. You won't either when you see him live.

  • for all the arguing down there top 5 vocalist ever

    1. Chris Cornell

    2. Robert Plant

    3.Freddy Mercury

    4. Geddy Lee

    5. Eddie Vedder

  • Nah mate:

    1. Cornell

    2. Cornell

    3. Cornell

    4. Cornell

    5 Cornell

  • remove geddy lee, just cuz he can sing high doesnt make his voice good. any idiot who can squeeze his balls tight enough could sound like geddy lee.

  • hey man geddy is awesome dont fuck wit him

  • haha i just don't like his voice at all, thats all.

  • Freakin' CORNELL RULES. Can't wait to see him on 6/8! (pant pant)

  • Arron Lewis is MONOTONISH!!!!!! He sings in the same tone for every song....

  • no way,, I think Cornell has a better voice than lewis,, BUT,, I think Scott Weiland is better, LOL,, Cornell and Weiland have the best voices..

  • No way, Lewis couldnt hold a candle to Cornell. He doesnt have the voice and doesnt have the writing skills. Keep in mind Cornell isnt young ne more, alot of factors go into it. Watch older videos if you really wanna see it.

  • Black Hole Sun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • still think badmotorfinger is best album ever! not one weak track! respect to chris + kim

  • It was a materpiece even with the screaming. As Arnie says... stop whining

  • :DD

oh god he's so amazing ^_^

i fukin loveee thiz song =]]

  • lol he had me until he started screamin "Black Hole SUNNN!! black hole SUNNN!!"

  • Best performer and songwriter I've ever heard.Genius.Check out "Temple of the dog"album !Masterpiece of rock.

  • Hands down Chris, you are the ultimate gift to music. The best voice ever.

  • I love chris but arron lewis is a much better singer! just type in his name and watch his video's. After watching arron's videos i think this video kinda stinks.

  • Uh, no.

  • P U!

  • youre an idiot for sayin that.. have u even seen his early versions of this song??

  • I"ve seen chris with sound garden for bad motorfinger and a few more tours and they where great. chris is a great studio singer but sings off key a lot when he's live. Have you ever seem them live jackass!

  • it has nothin to do with this.. cornell is still a better singer..or at least he was when he wrote black hole sun and most of his performances of this song is better than when lewis sings it

  • Arron did"nt sing this song and I love chris with sound garden. But arrow blows chris away solo. just check out the tool, sober cover or piano man cover. that guy can sing anything awesome. Check it out on utube. Then get back with me.

  • Get out. CC has one of the best voices in all of music.

  • One of the most amazing voices in the whole of music, not just in rock. Awesome song too. Great performance.

  • he has an awesome voice!!!

  • I saw soundgarden at Rock City years ago and Chris Cornell was awesome then and he still is. This was the best version of Black Hole Sun I have heard. Love it.

  • thanks for posting. chris has an amazing voice.
