  • This song is about how the Tai Dam people had to leave Sonla, their homeland for centuries, after the fall of Dien Bien Phu by the French to the Vietnamese communists in the 1950s.

Tai Dam is a branch of Zhuang ( 壮 ) nationality first inhabited in Guangxi china

  • สมัยก่อน ใครพูดภาษาคล้ายๆลาว สยามเรียกลาวหมด แต่คนไท(ไต)ดำ ไม่ได้เรียกตัวเองว่าลาว พวกเขาคือไทดำ

  • Beau souvenir.

  • Love Tai Dam ..... :)

  • As I watched this video, I had no idea that this song was about my history. My family arrived in California during the war and that's all I know. I'm not fluent in tai dam, but i always thought this song was about a 15 yr old girl falling in love or something like that LOL. Now that I know what its really about I have a totally different respect for the song and would love to be more in touch with my culture.

  • Beautiful but sad song. My heart goes out to the Tai Dam people who have suffered so muchbut still have maintained their culture.

  • good song...the lyrics sound to me just like Lanna Northern Thai language....but the English translation is not always correct...

  • @fabianfred537 , yes it might sound like northern Thai, but this is a mix of Tai Dam (ไทดำ) and Laotian dialects. The English translation might not be perfect, but this is the most accurate that you can't find anywhere else. The song is a story of my parents and thousands of Tai Dam people who had fled to Laos during the first phase of Vietnam war.

  • omg, this song is history! it so so deep.

  • Thank you for sharing the background story to this song. It is a classic to so many people that are from that region of the world.

  • I listen to many of the Tai Dam Lam Phan song and sing by many group.

This one is the most stuning and interesting Video. I give a 10 for that.

Thisn is from the heart of Taidam. pakpasak361951

  • @MrTouaxiong When I listening this song & very missing my old country of laos because laos country is my birth place.

  • great old song. very touching

  • Love this song. It tells a very good historical story of Tai Dum and all those who immigrate to Laos during the war. We, Lao people need to unite love each other no matter what part of Laos we are from. Lao Mhong, Tai Dum, Vientiane, where ever! We are all from a very beautiful country of Laos and we should always love each other and not let other people talk down our people.

  • great old song. very touching

  • Very very nice piece of video and singing. I miss this country alot and hopefully this country will be free again

  • เมืองเฮาเพ แสนเสียดาย สู่เจ้าเพิ่นหล้า

  • Love our Thai, Lot's of my friends are Thai dum in kalasin thailand...

  • Love this song! Mr. Midum who wrote this song was a genius. This song has great historical meaning for Tai Dam and the rest of Lao race for even. This song will help Lao race unite once again.

  • This is a very best version of kao vised.

  • I am Hmong but my great great great great grandfather was Tai Dam. So i guess that makes me partial TaiDam. I have just recently discovered that my great great great great grandfather was adopted by a Hmong family which now is my Vang family. I want to know more about the Tai Dam people if anyone has any info please let me know. Thankyou

  • @mewatchesutube Great i'll tell you of apart of our history.

  • Tai Hao Hak kan nua!!

be all Tai people love each other.

last month I go to visit laos. I think there is same like my Shan State (muarng Tai) in Burma. all culture and people are almost same. but when I live in Thailand I'm not happy. Because Thai people look down on their neibouring country. even Tai or Laos people that same ethnic with them. They think they are very develop. but I think not.

  • @510522003 Oh don't feel bad Laos people always welcome you. We know that Laos and Tai are the same blood same family and same language.

  • To me this song referring not only to Tai Dam, but also Tai/Dai from all over the world, There are Tai/Dai/Shan (different name depend on where we live but from the same family) now living in China ( esp Yunnan Province) , Burma/Myanmar ( Dai are called Shan), India, and yeh in Laos, and some are in Vietnam. We shouldn't forget this, and we should keep in touch.

  • The translated words blocks our view of pictures about 1/3 of the screen :(

Other then that, excellent representation of our tai dum brothers.

  • @saihsenghpanamhkok

Thanks for your comment. I know that "yai" means big. I just wonder what is "Lon" mean in your Tai dialect? It means white in Tai Dam (black) dialect.

  • Excellent singing and most informative subtitle. Click on my name for a Tai Dam playlist with 18 videos (and growing) of this classic folk song that will be around forever. Thank you for the info that the song is about Dien Bien Phu. The story of Tai Dam needs to be included in western history of the origin of the Vietnam war. The story is significant and the history won't be accurate without it.

  • Thanks for the comments. The singing credit goes to Mr. Viseth Vongsavanh. Besides the original one by Mr. Kor Viseth, I found this version is the most accurate and meaningful. I got disappointed sometimes when I saw on some other remakes, the singers mispronounced some words and made the meanings differently.

Yes, this song is about Dien Bien Phu. Most people only knew it as the most famous battlefield of Vietnam War, but hardly knew that was Tai Dam homeland for more a thousand of years.

  • Mr. Taidam, I would like to introduce you a book about your theme. The 'National Geographic, Vol. 139, No.3, March 1971. I think you can find it in any university. In this book, Peter T. White wrote about this song in Vientiane. He called it: Lament of the Black Thai (Page 325).

  • Thanks, Naxi2245, for the info. Are you Lao or Tai Lue? By the way, I'm a woman.

  • this song is such a classic! the meanings of the song will always stay in our hearts :D

  • I love it.

  • Une magnifique chanson( pleine de souvenirs) que connaissent tous les thaïs dam ayant vécus au Laos :)

    Merci

  • Yes, it is beautiful sad song that Tai Dam will always be remembered. Merci pour le comment.

  • Thank u for sharing this video about Tai Dam. Love this one very much...

  • I'm glad that you like it. I made this video on behalf of all our pi nong Tais; to let the world knows about us and understand the meaning of this song.
