well, from what i understand it's a LOT easier to just buy a multimeter than build one. but a generator is a different story.

all you really need is a moving magnet within coils (moving either up/down or in a circle) the power of the magnet and the number of coils will determine it's volts/amp's, btw it will have ac output because of the changing poles of the magnet, you can change this to dc by adding a diode which will cause it to emit in pulses
