I got netflix just to watch 'La Soga'. The cinematography is crisp, dialogue, poignantly delivered and the music is phenomenally rhythmic. The cockfight scene with the drum call pulsating to the roll of the slashing rooster spurs and clanging knife sharpening took me back to some decades past when market day was a beehive of roosters clamoring to be sold. Beautiful movie.
@Briggie07 we are all dominicans, black and whites, we don't give a fuck about colors....in our beautifull island most people don't even know the meaning of word "racist" cause in our paradise that shit doesn't exist.
@AngelinaLME ahhh I hate having to respond to things on the internet but I guess in my comment I didn't really explain anything. I didn't really think anyone would see it or care enough to reply, but I guess I was wrong. First of all, I am Dominican and I know that in DR racism does exist whether you want to admit it or not. You cant honestly tell me that you've never heard the term "Refinar la Raza". You can't honestly tell me that Haitians are not treated as second-class citizens...
And as for this movie- I know that I'm not the only dominican who is bothered by the idea that some american Director comes into Santiago making this movie misrepresenting the country with the typical white-washing of the cast. Yeah, they're all Dominican (Except Miss Puerto Rico!) but it doesn't bother you in the slightest that all the darker-skinned people in this movie are the criminals? I dont mean to say that "this movie is racist" but it's not exactly progressive in it's casting.
@AngelinaLME and dont you DARE tell me you've never heard of El Corte....
I love everything and everyone on that Island- but let's just be realistic here- and also I never said that they were racist in DR. I was referring to the casting of the movie- The problem here lies with the American producers and directors, not with the Dominicans cast in this movie.
@Briggie07 You need to actually watch the movie before you can conclude that! If you watched the whole movie you will agree that your perception is actually 100% crap and degrading! Soy Africano mi pais es Zambia Living in New York the capital city of the whole world. After you watch this you need to visit The Place beautiful., the life simple but great, the women..... argghhh just investigate better in the future before you fire your weapon! cheers mate
@simonzed 1. I've seen the movie, even before I commented on this
2. Assuming that you're talking about DR, I've definitely been there considering I'm Dominican-So maybe you should 'investigate' before you assume that I would be making these comments based on a random YT trailer. I didn't want to write a whole tirade about why I dislike this movie on here because honestly I dont have the energy for it. I can honestly tell you that I am not the only dominican who is bothered by this movie.
i know i been trying to look for this movie for like ever... does anyone know where i can download it or rent it or buy it ..??? please let me know thank
okay I look like a crazy person actually responding on here............. never coming back to this video again lol
