@pjrohe Your just trolling on here, you know damn well he said shit! I knew he said shit before I ever read your dumb comment. you sir are trying to receive attention because deep down your nothing but a heartless soul....
LOL! I love how Bob Jenkins says Oh Shit, but no one else bothers to notice that because of Ricky Craven's nasty crash. Darrell would of probably say the same thing.
@NASCARwolf20 i'm not sure if your talking about no one mentioning it on the live telecast, but they didn't go back live until when they said "a bad crash here at talladega".
Took me a while to realize just how hard of a hit Craven took. For a while there I thought his car was a chunk of sheet metal or something off someone's car...
Do people really have to point out what he said? I'm not offended by bad words and it's not that I don't like them, but come on, I think we can hear it when he says it. It was pretty funny though!!!
@wuscli You know, Jeff didn't mean to do this. Maybe it could've been prevented, but Mark Martin sorta played a little role in this too. If you watch, Mark clearly misjudged Jeff and came across his bumper. Jeff probably could've backed off, but seriously, what can you do when you have someone riding your ass, seriously? This was just a racing incident.
Ricky must not have been driving his typical Tide paint scheme, cuz when they were saying Ricky Craven I was lookin for bright colors so I was confused on where he was. He was usually easy to spot.
@Bobbysboy In 1996 Ricky was driving for Larry Hedrick. It wasn't until 2001 that he moved to Cal Wells's operation to drive the Tide car. And yes he wasn't easy to spot in this video (at least when he was right side up). I once heard a story that when Ricky was in the hospital and saw this replay on Sportscenter he turned to his wife and said, "Man I feel sorry for the guy who flipped. Who was it?" Probably an awkward second or two in there before she answered lol.
In case it wasn't mentioned, that "oh ****" wasn't broadcast on the air - this comes from the satellite feed, apparently. When Bob Jenkins says "A bad crash at..." was RIGHT when they cut back from commercial to live broadcast. They cut back from the commercial at about 0:11.
rickey craven wasnt. he was never the same after this wreck. he suffered a brain injury from it. he almost flew out of the track. i;; never forget it as long as i live. but yeah it was b/c i thought someone was dead for sure.
was it texas? I cant remember but Craven wasn't hurt at all from this crash...besides the basic bumps and bruises topped off with a shitty pair of underoos.
@ScottNEwberry oh he was hurt, in knocked him unconcious as soon as he hit the wall. i saw a video where he was talking about this crash. lol he cussed
@storm24awesome well yeah he was hurt obviously, I said that in a earlier post. I meant as far as the way that crash looked horrid but he basically received no injuries. Being knocked out is not a injury, per say....
probably is. I remember seeing the geoff bodine truck crasha dn some sorry fat sob was cheering while bodine could have been dying. Very sickening, and anyone who enjoys crashes were drivers are injured or die are mentally F'd up.
ik right they well beep it out if they say swear words again and so far non has not swear now its the drivers swearing and some like abc and fox might not allow swears so they beep it out
ik right they well beep it out if they say swear words again and so far non has not swear now its the drivers swearing and some like abc and fox might not allow swears so they beep it out
True... but it wasn't a big deal because they were at commercial at the time of the crash so thats why he said it. haha They cut back in when he says..."A very bad crash..."
They were at commercial when the crash first began. When they came back on the air, the first words were, "A bad crash at Talladega, just a very bad crash."
This new audio has recently been released for a lot of races that show what the on-air commentators were doing during those commercials. That's why the "Oh shit" comment was never heard before now.
taktikal24- My comment was based from an interview I remember him doing after retirement. He was fine on the smaller tracks, but "lost his nerve" on the big speedways like Daytona and 'Dega.
Ricky Craven was never the same after this. He admitted that when he recovered enough to drive again he found he lost his nerve and drove too cautiously to be competitive. He had nightmares from the crash and couldn't handle driving the big tracks after that. He ended up retiring.
While I can't say whether or not he had nightmares about this wreck... the rest is bullshit. If he lost his nerve, he wouldn't have been the winner of the 2003 Darlington race... you know, the closest finish in NASCAR history. Obviously, since this wreck was in 1995 and that race was in 2003 the wreck probably had very little to do with his timely retirement.
Midwestern329, don't we all "end up retiring?" ... It took Ricky Craven awhile to get himself back "right" after the crash. He did suffer some long term effects from the crash. But as others have noted, he went on to race for Hendrick after the crash, finish third at Daytona (a "big track") in the Budweiser 25 car, and much later in his life won races at Martinsville and -- maybe the greatest NASCAR finish ever -- in a Pontiac at Darlington over Kurt Busch.
What were some of his injuries in this crash. I thought his crash at Texas in practice a couple years later when he was driving for Hendrick was the one that really set him back. How much time was he sidelined after this crash at Talladega?
It's been awhile since I've read the full story and I can't seem to find it now. But Ricky saw the crash replayed on the news while in the hospital and made a comment like, "Wow, I'd hate to be that guy." And they had to tell him he WAS "that guy." I'm not sure what injuries -- broken bones or bruises -- might've been suffered. Maybe few. But the Kodiak-Talladega flip was the first of the crashes (including Texas) that likely contributed to a 1998 case of vertigo that nearly ended his career.
Thanks for the info. I wasn't completely sure about the details of the injuries to him from the wreck at Talladega. I read something somewhere that he "walked away" from the accident at Talladega. I'm sure he was banged up pretty bad but wasn't sure if he was injured badly and if he missed any time or not. I'm guessing he didn't miss any races but I could be wrong. But, since you said he was in the hospital then who knows. Maybe he was in the hospital briefly but didn't miss any races.
