In songs like Primal Concrete Sledge & Medicine Man, Dimebag used Drop D and in songs like Revolution is my Name & Great Southern Trendkill, he's dropped a full step down (and a 1/4, yes! For both tunings)
Every one's a critic apparently. I, as a drummer, am glad to see someone trying to teach guitarists some rhythm cause I'm sick of guitarists with no rhythm
i like how serious the video is and yet the riff is 100% wrong... and how he's making it sound harder than it is. it's two notes played one after the other. The earpiece just makes it all come together though
you're playing that riff with zero groove, also he's playing open position power chord and pulling up to a muffled third fret. Good luck learning the song man.
@applepiewithtoast -- you "obviously" missed the point of this video. It's not a tone building video, it's about technique, approach, 'the lick', and a little background on 'the lick'....
@theguitartheif If you pulled your head out of you ass you would be able to see why this riff is cool. I don't think it's cool when this dude plays it because it sounds much softer than Dime would play it but still it's a good riff to master to boost your guitar chops. So either shut up or cut your nuts off by playing your little gay ass emo shit music.
@theguitartheif anyone whose spent thirty seconds THINKING before they commented has made more sense than you, have respect he's just showing you a riff, if you don't want to learn it shut up and don't watch it, theres no point in going to a video to just say how much you hate it.
Wow... could the tone be any worse? The low-end is muddy as HELL!! Probably bass and gain dimed out with mids completely scooped to 0. Absolutely horrible tone... as for the playing it is just fine, but that tone is truly unbearable.
@LCHardcore Its one riff. but come on dude you cant take away from dimebag this guys an asshole. playing other peoples music is cool. But you cant give someone credit for someone elses shit. not cool man. Plus theres a lame ass drum beat in the backround. Like some linkin park shit lol.
@Jessegrr420 lol Its my opinion. The riff sounds better the way he plays it compared to Dimebag's constant palm muting. If you compare the two both riffs are the same, only this one has more distortion. The original version sounds too.. samey... Sure "its not cool" to give someone credit for someone elses material, I get it. Im just stating this one sounds better.
@LCHardcore shut up dick. lol jk thats cool man i respect that. I just thought its funny that hes talking the 50 best metal riffs and both of the other riffs in that song are way sicker. But yea the album version doesnt do the riff justice look up the live version of the song and its got more distortion and its a little better than the album version.
@MelvinTheStoner Yeah I noticed he seemed to play it in different tunings a lot. And yeah the guy wasnt muting. Thats seriously what makes that song such a beast. =]
ok... Dime actually plays it Drop D (he plays Primal concrete sledge with his Dean From Hell, wich is in E standard, so he only retunes E string to D from Floyd)
@tonykragness -- correct! :) I always had to learn his stuff on my non-trem guitars and then transpose back on my floating bridges... and of course, iron out the tuning with my bass player. hahaha....

When you drop d your guitar, do you still consider the string the e string?
MrSpartan341 4 months ago
@MrSpartan341
I just say that i've dropped the low E string down a whole step, or that i'm in Drop D tuning
But i think that most people refer to talk music, atleast guitar in it's standard tuning.
Atleast i do
kakan147 4 months ago
@MrSpartan341 Yes you do, LOW E, you just need to keep note as to what the note it is based on how far it has been dropped.

On the dime clinics Dime plays it Standard 1/2.
In russia he plays it Drop D.
And this lesson lacks the constant string muting with the left hand wich is as important as the 16th notes.

Actually it is Drop D, just try it with whole thing dropped down, it sounds nothing like it.

@Justasssu but dimebag himself says that he dont use Drop D tuning

In Riffer madness he told that he used three tunings: Drop D, Standard 1/4 down, and 1 1/2 down.
Oh, and if you have tried it with whole thing dropped down one step, it sounds nothing like in the studio or live version.
