You guy are nutts, a Cleveland is a Cleveland a Windsor is a Windsor a Aussie 302 is a Cleveland design, very distinct differences
The Cleveland heads will fit on a Windsor, it's called a Clevor whether it be the Aussie heads or the US heads. The 400 is a cleveland design and the 351M is just a de-stroked 400...
You are spot on abou the Cleveland + WIndsor = Clevor setup.
Outwardly the Aussie Cleveland is exactly the same as a 351c. Same Block (Mine's a square Block CF foundry). If it's 2v, has the same heads outwardly, if you have a 4v (only 351c) you can tell by a 4 stamped on the corner of the heads. You can stroke and bore the Aussie 302c to at least 393 cubes. My mates Mustang has a Cleveland 351c out to 393c. I could do the same.
Your video is quite old... how's the car/engine going now?
that's right but the water passages will have to be modified for windsor use also special intake manifold is needed for that application. Boss 302 is cleveland look alike.
@72Chero sorry but you are wrong, instead of a huge explanation I will just tell you to get the SA Design book "High Performance Ford Parts Interchange 221-460CID" ISBN# 1-884089-33-X it will tell you everything you could ever want to know.. It's my bible lol
@72Chero eh nevermind I cant write it all out here I end up going like 350 over te character limit, thats why I said just read the book. I dont disagree that M motors are cleveland designs with a taller deck height tho.. ford actually designated them as Ms for "Modified Cleveland" tho unfortuantely you have to use big block trannys for them and 351C accessories wont work on them.. 351C heads wont work on 351W or 302s tho.. clevor head from aus are allum for Cs with close chamber and small port
@72Chero I did.. read the book... or check out the link I will be sending you in a message.. you cant put cleveland heads on a windsor block without changing the water passages..
The book you're listing is full of garbage, I read it and 990% of the info in it is WRONG!!! 72Chero is actually pretty hard core when it comes to the Cleveland motors, don't ever second guess him!!!
Yep, its so wrong it defies the laws of conservation!!! In all seriousness, whomever wrote that book didn't know a thing about Ford engines and the "Clevor" conversion simply requires drilling a hole into the forward part of the head in order to match the coolant hole in the intake so that it will run through the head, having done this conversion on 3 motors it really is just that easy.
ram a pipe cleaner down the spark hole and hope for top and bottom centres'. buy the a book and devote a corrected site to fomoco engine stampings. I want to know but its months before i want to pull it apart!!!
This is wrong. A cleveland block and windsor block are very different, one of the most significant differences is that a cleveland has 8 bolt heads and a windsor has 6 bolt heads. The heads are not big block heads either they are specifically designed to fit the cleveland engine which is a small block, the heads will not fit any other engine definitaly not a big block or even a windsor.
Actually that isn't correct either, the blocks are different yes but the heads will fit on a Windsor block with minor modifications to the coolant passages and either intake adaptors or special intake. The 302 boss is a Windsor with 4V Cleveland heads. Cleveland heads are also a DIRECT bolt on with 400/351M engines, infact the 400/351M are in the same engine family as the Cleveland and have many interchangeable parts. And yes the 351C/400/351M are small blocks NOT big blocks.
The only real difference between a 351C and 400/351M is the 400 has larger mains, taller deck and big block bellhousing pattern, probably why some people think the 400 is a big block. The heads, cams etc are all interchangeable. The 351M is just a destroked 400 with different crank and pistons, a 400 crank and pistons will fit right into a 351M and makes it a 400. A 400 crank will also fit in a Windsor block (427) if you turn down the counter weights and use differnet rods and shorter piston.
Just pulle my 351c CJ out of my Ranchero GT (Q code 4 spd) today! About to rebuild it in the back yard. Yours sounds nice, hope mines fires up the first time.
It should. Mine LOVES to run. After sitting for years, and with the whole side broken off the distributer cap, it fired right up. My wife was amazed that we would be away, working out of state for over a year, and I would come home and it would fire right up like nothing had happened.
lol not even close... a 302 cannot be bored to more than 347ci you clown without an extreme risk to blow it. Second how could you explain 351 blocks being bored to 400+ci.. your trying to say you could bore a 302 to 400+ci... please dont post when you know nothing about these engines.
i think we've got some seriously crossed wires here. I thought our friend here was talking about a 302 Cleveland (a motor unique to australia im led to believe) as he didnt specify a 302 windsor. i stand by my comment though as it is correect, i just think you might have misunderstood the 302 in my comment for a windsor not a cleveland
the 289/302 block is not the same as the 351 Windsor. The Windsor is bigger and taller. Yes the heads and few parts are interchangable, but they are different.
A Cleveland and Windsor block are not related @ all. Somehow a Cleveland is considered a big block, and the Windsor small.
The Cleveland has fat, canted valved heads.
The easiest way to tell the difference is the thermostat housing. On a "W" its bolted to the Intake manifold, as water flows thru it. The Cleveland is dry

im guessing ur thinking a 351w when u ask that question, 351C is a bigger block, 351w and 302 are both on the same block, just different bores/stroke
ponyboy88 4 years ago
nuh uh: 351w 9.5" deck height block 351C 9.2" deck height block 302/289W 8.5"deck height block
302C is same block as 351 just destroked to give 302 ci
