I didn't do as much this Canthan New Year as in the past, as I was more involved with real-world celebrations of the CHINESE New Year here in Chicago, in Chinatown. Parade footage coming soon...
Every year since the Asian-themed Guild Wars: Factions came out there is a special event called the Canthan New Year, which corresponds to the Chinese New Year in real life. Several key towns are decorated with Chinese lanterns and dragons, and there are fun games to play. There's also the Celestial Feast, where magical beings from outer space that represent the animal of that year come down to sample a feast that the royal Canthan chefs have prepared...
Folks prepare for this ahead of time by stocking up on all the ingredients the chefs need, and if everything goes right everyone gets special prizes, and a herd of the animal shows up to run through the town (this year it was tigers). Though he's been there before, this year I happened to notice an npc that's often overlooked: A farmer with a pet pig and a catapult. He says that when the celestial beasts come down, it opens a portal in the heavens...
He feels this will give his pet pig the chance to earn it's wings, if he can just launch the poor critter through the portal -- hence the catapult. I have no idea if the little pork ball actually earns his wings or whatever, as the farmer doesn't say anything afterwards. So I got a shot of the pig being launched into space, and another when he splashes back down into the tub of water. The sound effects were added in, but in the game the pig does squeal as it's launched maybe 100 feet up lol
