  • I am going to see Le Vent du Nord soon and this lot are support do they play out of tune on purpose do you think? i will find out just how bad they are i believe i will be able to talk to them after the gig that will be fun AND i will be able hold his horrid sounding thing i might drop it on his toes i will tell Mr Roth Josefin's Waltz a nice tune indeed but others play it far better than you do and if you hadn't written this we wouldn't have EVER heard of you did you know that i bet he agrees!

  • , i dont like this version, it was recommended to me, i gave it a shot, wasnt appealing to me so? i let people know.... its a comments section, not an exclusively positive coments section...

  • i play this im a professional fiddle player that tit who didnt like this is a fucking faggot lol i think its beautiflu lol :D

  • Very beautiful.

  • Original version i see

well i can only think it has improved over time with others playing it,i have heard quite a few versions on here and this is probably the worst it

a nice tune but this sounds slightly out of key

Good tune, terrible version original or not!

It is done much better by others

and it would'nt be the first time the original version isnt as good as many others better musicians do it better... kinda makes sense dont you think

this lot are just not very good musicians!

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson, It is Swedish music. It has a very different, plaintive, primitive (in a good way) sound than say Scottish fiddling for instance. Expand your horizons more. There is some incredible emotion and artistry going on here and it beats out 99 percent of any other folks who attempt to play this piece. These guys are probably the most famous Swedish trad group in the world and for good reason. They are all incredibly gifted and sensitive players, performers and composers.

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson

Are you kidding? This is the original version. I suppose you aren't used to the sound of nickelharpa..

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson dude.. the guitarist wrote this song. they can play however they want and itd be just the way its supposed to be.

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson,

These are the guys who composed the tune in the first place. Gorgeous rendition.

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson i checked out the evergreen version - well played but not as good as vasen

  • @alij2007 really?

    thats suprising.

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson not very surprising - i think vasen is an amazing band and their version of the tune with nyckelhrapa is gorgeous with a brilliant guitar part - there are better quality recordings of them playing it but I've yet to find a better version of the tune

  • Beautiful melody! It touches the spirit. Congratulations to Väsen

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson

    Go die in a fire.

Learning it on piano as posting. So beautiful <3

    Väsen are amazing...

  • og god this is horrible. pain in every limb

  • @pettymolly

I don't know why you are so insulting. It's a beautiful piece to my ear. Perhaps you should listen to some entirely different styles of music.

  • @twocanoes I dont remember giving this comment. Maybe after a night out some 2 months ago and trolling youtube after. Happends. Now i'm not after a night out, and must say i take back my trolling. Not shabby at all.

  • @pettymolly That's a very gracious response. It makes me embarrassed for my comment.

I apologize, I am sorry for that.

  • I have fallen in love with this song! I've not heard of Vasen before, so its been very fun discovering their other songs and albums. Thanks for putting it up

  • In Swedish the tune is called "Josefins dopvals", which means "Josefin's christening waltz" (or "Josefin's baptism waltz".) The group is called Väsen, not Vassen, and they are one of the best Swedish acoustic folk groups today, despite what some wiseacres may say. Sofia Karlsson has set words to the tune and recorded it as "Alltid dig nära" ("Always close to you"), and that one is also on YouTube. Thanks a lot for uploading this beautiful tune!

  • My wife and I danced for 20 min to them playing this in CA. Magical..

  • When i find the time i will do my version and upload it onto my channel now i may play it on the Accordion which sounds much better than this, on the other hand its so easy to play a better version that this on the fiddle i may just do that too Lyrics added to this choon would make for a pretty song dont you think yes indeed also if you keep an eye on my other channel therehasbeenan you may find in the near future a version played on my Mandriola and if you are good.... spoons
  • nickelharpa what an odd sounding thing it is not very nice

Josefin's Waltz - Evergreen Band on Irish Music Festival

check this one out folks its the best

far better that this one which after listening to..... paticularly after listening to Evergreen Band... and Fiona Cuthill... and then my friends... and ..myself... and most other versions on you tube makes me realize just how boring this one is, the composer of the tune is often not the best at playing it .this proves it :)

    David

  • The video that SFL is talking about was posted and filmed by him, not me, during a beginners lesson. I am not in the game of competing against other bands to see whose version is "better". How I perform a tune in an actual performance and at a lesson are entirely different. I love this tune and this version of it and I do NOT wish this to turn into some kind of slanging match. Everyone has their own opinion. Agree to disagree and leave it at that. And leave me out of it please.

  • ScottishFiddleLesson boasts of doing a "better" version of this tune and has been challenged twice to prove it. So far, unwilling or unable to do so. Nothing but hot air there, folks. You have an overrated view of your own self importance, SFL.

  • An overrated group, to be fair they have written this tune which is nice when played by others

they just happened to write one good tune,a mediocre group at best I know this is subjective, but I find it difficult to listen to any of their tuness without getting bored even this one when played by them is boring, you should check out the many other versions of this tune,AND they steal idea's from others i think they may have with this tune.

  • The harp key speaks so beautiful in this waltz..

  • Gorgeous!!

  • My fiddle tutor does a better version than this, without evan trying in fact so do i

    this is rubbish

check her's out on my channel

    her name is Fiona Cuthill

    far better than this

    this is horrid!

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson Her version is only a minute long, cuts off in mid tune, and isn't played in the key in which it was written (incidentally, by Roger Tallroth, a member of THIS band). Other than that, it's ok. To call this version 'rubbish' and 'horrid' indicates to me that your fiddle lessons so far have fallen on deaf ears. Also explains why Vasen are internationally famous, and you're not.

  • @hiccuptruck I think it is rubbish i have heard dozens of versions better than this one

i think its nicer in a differant key

so do most non scandinavians MOST you opinion is irrelevant vasen are ok nothing special they sometimes try to play a celtic sound and they sound terrible they are not celtic they are not that good

why would i want to be famous you dont know me i would hate to be famous

are you famous and if not does that explain why you are not lol lol lol and you dont interest me lol

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson

    Reality check :

"rubbish" "horrid""terrible" "nothing special" "not that good" ...your opinions, alone.

"gorgeous!!" "beautiful" "amazing" "fantastic!" "wouaw!" "MY HAIR IS FUCKING STANDING ON END." "this is great" "one of the most beautiful tunes ever composed" "I love the sound." "wow! ...Your performance is so inspiring." "great!!!!!" "very very good!" "Very nice tune and the nickelharpa sounds fantastic." "Mmmmmm - nice! " ..opinions of many others expressed here.

  • @hiccuptruck its still crap

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson My guess is that your fiddle tutor has more maturity than you, has more respect for the band that brought this wonderful tune into existence in the first place, and would be embarrassed by your juvenile rantings and your putting her version on a pedestal up against this band's version. Just my guess.

If in fact, as you stated, your version is better than this one, why don't you post it on youtube, so the whole world can judge? Put up, or shut up.

  • @hiccuptruck you should grow up and accept i think this group are crap why are you defending them so its a bit odd,why are you getting so caught up in my opinion

really odd i couldn't care less what you think, why do you care what i think,i dont really care who has more respect for this band than i do may have more respect for muse than you so what lol i dont know and i dont care

i only know that i like other versions of this tune and i dont like this i think this is bad shut up youself lol.

  • @ScottishFiddleLesson Since you asked, i defend them because i resent blowhards who bandy about loaded words like "rubbish", "crap", "terrible", and at the same time boast of doing "better" without a shred of evidence to back up their claim. My opinion, just like yours. Why are you getting so caught up in my opinion? If your version is better, let's see and hear it.

  • This is why why live...

  • @Faltaz Why we live...:)

  • does anyone know what kind of tuning the guitarman uses? :)

  • oooh, the chord combinations are amazing...I must steal them. :D

  • Fantastic!

  • Wouaw ! It is my favourite Waltz

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG. MY HAIR IS FUCKING STANDING ON END.

I first heard Natalie Macmaster's version, but this is great--reminds me of Hedningarna, but more mellow.

  • This is the original version by the way :)

  • @typacsk I heard this song for the first time about 15 years ago and fell in love with it instantly. I play it both on guitar and mandolin but the nykelharpa (correct spelling btw) makes this song. Anyway, my wife and I used this song in the ceremony when we renewed our wedding vows on our 25th wedding anniversary in 2008. As a matter of fact, my wife walked down the aisle to it.

  • May be one of the most beautiful tunes ever composed. Yeah ... I mean that.

  • I've never seen a nickelharpa before but I love the sound. This is one of those YouTube moments, if not for YouTube, I might never have heard this wonderful instrument and this great group.

  • vassen?

  • wow! i play this song with the Cornwall Fiddle Orchestra. Your performance is so inspiring.

  • great!!!!!

  • Also called,THE greatest band on Earth. Yes they are tall but apart from that very very good!

  • What a beautiful piece! And how cool - I'd never heard of, seen, or heard that instrument before. But it's cool!

  • Beautiful melody, very well played !! Phalaina

  • Lovely tune and wonderful playing. Thank you.

  • Very nice tune and the nickelharpa sounds fantastic.

  • Yep, it's a nyckelharpa, it's a swedish folk instrument. Sort of the love child between a violin and a hurdy-gurdy.

    Lovely tune too.

  • Mmmmmm - nice! What is that "super violin" in the middle?? Never seen anything like that.

  • It's called nickelharpa

  • Nyckelharpa.

  • @Donegal I´m sorry but it´s.. nyckelharpa. A very soul-touching instrument in my opinion...

  • @Donegal Its actually nyckelharpa

  • @Donegal Nyckelharpa, to be correct. The Swedish national instrument.
