  • I adore this song :)

  • I just love this song . . . it makes me mad & sad all at once.

  • i dont know about anyone else, but i think it would of been amazing if dylan would have played this song in 66 (i know it came after that lol) would have been so cool to hear it in his doped out voice

  • who the fuck is this lou reed wajer, why he with metallica/ fuck good cocain /w/

  • yes.

  • depending on the day, and my mood, this is my favorite song. it competes with jersey girl, graceland, simple twist of fate, hallelujah, summertime, the ballad of lucy jordan and about a dozen others. just a fabulous song by a fabulous singer.

  • i have pale blue eyes (:

  • so beautiful, wonderful... thank you Blueguyz90! I love it

  • Nice....very nice

  • I can't believe that this song and "Sister Ray" were written by the same person.. VU is so awesome.

  • @Robinhoodarch That's called genius

  • Awesome song. Its on the Adventureland soundtrack.

  • Yup. Watched that movie today which is where i heard the song

  • awesome song

  • Dommage que les images soient si platement imitatives pour une telle chanson...

  • one of the coolest songs ever made!

  • first heard this in adventureland. didnt know it was velvet, i thought it was solo. its really awesome song

  • This is a weird version, never heard it before, and not sure if its solo or not. Maybe from one of several cash in CDs. Not as good as the original tho. Classic song tho!

  • This is the original. On the 3rd Velvets album, The Velvet Underground (1969)

  • How about Sterling Morrison's work on this...the beautiful solo...great, and almost unknown.

  • sterling was agood guitarist but i'm pretty sure lou reed did the main guitar work,as he did on all their songs...

    beautiful song though

  • Sterling Morrison plays lead guitar on this song

  • i bow to your superior vu knowledge...

  • It's easy to tell them apart. Reed plays the less 'technical' & louder solos, with feedback, etc.. (I Heard Her Call My Name, All Tomorrow's Parties, etc..). Morrison plays more lead guitar after John Cale's departure, from the 3rd album onwards, like here, or on Rock'n'Roll on Loaded. His style is more fluid & 'mannered'. But you're right, Reed was the band's lead guitarist at first, as Morrison sometimes played bass (Venus In Furs, for instance) when Cale played viola, etc..

  • thanks for that information, i really didn't know that sterling morrison played lead on any of their songs... he is sadly missed.

    cheers mate.

  • He is sadly missed. Other lead guitar parts he plays - on the same album - are That's The Story Of My Life, & I'm Set Free.

On the DVD of The Velvets' reunion tour (1993) you can see him take quite a solo on Rock'n'Roll. He plays lots of lead on the live albums - like Live 1969 - and on the legendary 'Lost Album' (1968-69), released in 1985 as VU, like on Foggy Notion, or the slide guitar of One Of These Days. His style is kinda sweet here (it's the song) but it could be as raw as anyone's

  • I'll tell you something else that I just remembered. For many years Lou Reed was really in love with a girl he went to college with, her name was Shelley. She decided in the end to marry another man, her lifestyle being kinda straight. Lou Reed wrote this song for her. When The Velvets recorded the song a while later, Sterling Morrison - after doing the solo & knowing what the song was about - said to Reed: " If it was me I'd have never let anyone else mark such a personal song so much". Cheers

  • Are you positive that Morrison plays lead on I'm Set Free? It is one of my favorite solos, but it is so basic that I thought maybe it was Reed.

  • No, I'm not. With Cale gone, Morrison plays more lead guitar, but I'm not 100% sure about I'm Set Free; I haven't listened to it in a while. Perhaps I will & let you know what I think. It could be either, although the rhythm guitar - the 'arpeggio' on the D chord - sounds definitely like Lou Reed's style

  • This song reminds me of my best friend and ex the irony being she has brown hazel eyes...:) I'm only young but these guys gals were truly something awesome that time forgot

  • We need remedial spelling lessons here.

  • My grandfather had the palest blue eyes known to man. He could barely see anything in the sun.

  • The Mirror's a better read!

  • Like a few of you, I was just exposed to this song. I've liked some of Lou Reed's music, but let's be honest ~ radio hasn't exactly been playing great groups like this for some time. Thanks to "Cold Case" on CBS for using this in their latest episode (last Sunday), I searched it out and found this. Immediately bought 1969's "The Velvet Underground" album on iTunes, as well as the song, "I'll Be Your Mirror." Great video! The 'pale blue eyes' are incredible!

  • great song and the fine movie !

    well done !

  • Boy, Lou singing about this makes it seems as tnough the subject has very small pupils. Almost seems as though the opioid addict in this song resembles Cindy McCain. Pretty weird, huh?

  • Strange that and all the hammer they did...

  • ...

why am i just discovering this?

i've never even heard of this band until a day ago. wtf? some pr would be welcome.

  • palebluedot haha. Funny. Same here man I just now discovered this band and its great

  • You're kidding, right?

They were only one of the most influencial bands in history.

  • nope. not kidding. I've never heard of this band before. I swear sometimes it's like i live in a bubble. Under a rock. Many heavy, large, good-music-blocking rocks.

  • its like you've uncorked a vintage wine in the cellar, it only got better with age...

  • dude get all tehir albums. possibly a better band than the beatles.

  • yah. I got a few a week ago.

  • kewl

  • fuckin awesome

  • the music is brilliant of ourse!!

i meant the video someone did...

  • This band was such a big influence on my music! I carry their style and sound whether I go! Their number one on my list!! Lou Reed and Sterling Morrison are my guitar gods!!!! Fukc these new guitar gods like fucking fall out bo and shit! Emo is a corporate waste of time!

  • Bravo!

  • Le Tomatoe est une biblioteque! (audio preview that!)

  • and emo is the only type of music there is nowadays...

in their days you also needed to search far and deep for their type of music because they weren't that mainstream...and if you look at it in that way things haven't changed at all..

  • Emo is my least favourite favourite type of music, "ANGELS AND AIRWAVES SOAR LIKE ANGELS AS AIRWAVES WHOOOOOOOO!"

  • "Linger on, your pale blue eyes." I agree, his finest line! And damn, i'm living it right now!!! The song is his finest.

  • Lou Reed rocks!!

  • damn nazis

  • Finally you find something to love......

  • this is the first time I've heard this song. words can't describe its beauty.

  • "linger on yer pale blue eyes"lou s finest line of the velvet greatest song.the way his voice cracks whilst singing this line is so moving

  • your an asshole

  • the girl with paint on her face is adorable

  • Havn't heard this since the 70's - nice song.

  • I really love this song, music is art art is supposed to be interpreted by every individual. So please stop arguing about what the song is about, it's pointless.

  • about losing a girl to speed probably or whatever you want it to be louie louwieya oh baby we gotta go now

  • my eyes r light blue eyes...i love themm

  • kindof funny that this song was about drugs yet the video is not kinda funny

  • mmm don't think this song is about drugs. A lot of their songs are but this seems to be about a girl. I might be wrong but I don't think I am.

  • im pretty sure it is about drugs there is an interview with lou reed where he talks about his drug dealer having pale blue eyes
