  • Thanks a lot !!! This is one of my fav song !

  • thanks man i hate reading tab im a hands on kinda guy great job

  • awesome work man, thanks!

  • thanks...from a huge Jeff Buckley fan

  • my god, i love you SO MUCH!!!!!!! thank you, you're AWESOME

  • sos un grande

  • My guitar neck is too short, my twelfth fret is placed almost where the body begins so I have a hard time making that chord to sound well. One solution may be that I play it with my long or ring finger, but if someone here know some better way to play it - please tell me. Great song btw.

  • Kinda like patting your head and rubbing your stomach! :))

  • Wanted to learn this for YEARS! Awesome!

  • @MrRhutchis - And have you? Did it work?

  • @questionmarke, almost there. Just have to work on the muscle memory and cues. Now the singing with the playing....that's another story. Lessons are a big help. did you actually play the whole song in any of these? that would be helpful to see the whole picture.

  • @MrRhutchis - I didn't play the whole song in the tutorials, but have two versions of myself performing the song. Check my channel for those covers!

  • Fantastic lesson Thanks so much!

  • Fantastic tutorial mate!

  • Great work man

  • the slide sounds great

  • I bought the book for learning the grace album with cd etc - - your lessons look more fun and faster - thanks for uploading - great work

  • @mooners40

Hey, no problem! Which book did you get? The Jeff Buckley Collection from Hal Leonard?

  • @questionmarke it's Wise publications - play guitar with Jeff Buckley - no author , i just noticed - strange - it might be Hal but I can't see his name anywhere

  • @mooners40 Interesting. I didn't know about that one!

  • Damn it man you are just so awesome! I loveeeeeee Buckley and I've never found a decent tutorial for his songs but man you fixed that! Love what you do and please keep on making these!! P.S: The song All Flowers In Time is awesome with him, maybe we could see a tutorial with that in the future?

Regards and best wishes from Iceland!

  • @kazzi05

Thanks for the comment! I'd be glad to do a tutorial for All Flowers In Time one of these days. Just need to figure it out first... :)

  • "...and rubbing your stomach..." lol... Awesome teacher!

  • Excellent tutorial mate. Im a self taught player and this has got to be the easiest learning I've ever done. Genius... Request for a tutorial on John Mayer's "Back to you" please.

    Cheers from Sydney Australia

  • @bakosblace - Thank you very much. As for Mayer's song, I'm not yet familiar with it...

  • Hey so the A2 shape you're talking about would actually be called A7 (with the G string skipped), A2 would be if you kept the B string open. Then, when you move that onto the 5th and 3rd strings, it becomes an Esus7 shape. Might not help too many people, but now you know what you're playing!

PS Great videos, as for the rhythm people want maybe you could just film your right hand for them... might help.

  • Haven't watched the video in a long time. It's quite possible I was doing one thing and calling it another by accident. Sometimes I'm pretty tired when I make these videos! Thanks for the correction.

  • Thanks for this. Great tutorial

  • i'm new to guitar and plain awful at barring the first five strings like you show in the intro, any advice for ways to practice?

  • Start out with shapes or random exercises that have you barring less than five strings. I'm talking about moveable chord shapes that you can play up and down the neck.

Start with two strings and when that doesn't wear you out move to three strings, then four, then five, then six.

    Example 2 string: xx7655, 655xxx

    Example 3 string: xx7565, xx8555, x7575x, 5x555x

    Example 4 string: x75555, 87555,

    Example 5 string: x57765

    Example 6 string: 577655

  • oh i see. cool. what about when you're barring either 5 or 6 strings with just 1 finger. like in the intro when you slide your index finger around to the 2nd fret to the 5th to the 12th etcetera. or when you are barring the top 5 strings with your index finger and hitting the 6th string with your ring finger? that's where i'm really having trouble. i can't seem to get the middle digit of my index finger to hit the strings (usually the 3rd 4th and 5th strings)

  • Firstly, if you start off with the easier barre chords and work to the more difficult ones over a period of time (weeks) you may find you don't have the same difficulties. Secondly, I initially found when I was barring 5 or 6 strings with my index finger that it was easy to lose a string or two in the creases of my finger, underneath the joints. If that is the case with you, try rolling your index finger slightly more onto its edge. Stick with it. These things take time to acclimate to.

  • The most accurate cover of this song I've heard, if not note perfect. Have you possibly published any tabs of this, questionmarke?!

  • No, not any tabs. Though I think I made my rhythm chart available for download. If not there is a Jeff Buckley tab book available. The Jeff Buckley Collection. You can find it on Amazon, among other places.

  • Great video!! I'm still pretty basic - would you be able to post or send the strumming pattern for the intro?

  • I have a question... When i pick A2 chord on eleveth fret like 0 0 11 0 11 0 the A string seems no really in tune.

  • I see now ... it should be G instead of A

  • I think you should be on G instead of A.

  • Very cool explanation & teaching of a fantastic song. I'd give you a shiny quarter if you could translate Silverchair's Point of View as clearly as this lesson. That one always gives me troubles.

  • Mark, great lesson and lots of fun, you have a nice mix of theory and correct terminology with layman's terms. Your videos accurate, fun and well rounded. GREAT job!

  • That's a great compliment. Thank you!

  • excelent lesson you rule dude!!!!

  • Thanks!

  • Mark, I am finally getting somewhere playing thanks to you, best teaching video I have seen - and I have seen a lot without getting anywhere....cheers

  • Hey, thanks for saying so! May I ask, what is it about these videos that you find particularly helpful in comparison with others out there? I'd like to know what I'm doing right so I can do more of it!

  • In my opinion what really sets you apart from the others, is that you take your time to look at every single detail step by step. You wont hesitate to elaborate on each detail before you go on to the next. And the different installments for the song allows you to go through the song thoroughly, whereas most other instructors try to teach the whole song in one quick video.

  • Hey there Mark... just with reference to your comments about Jeffs playing with the slide at the start.... I think if you watch his live version on it... he actually used a delay which made it sound like he was strumming fast when he actually wasnt. Cheers Great lesson though.

  • Oh, okay. That would make sense. I've never thought about that, to tell you the truth! Thanks.

  • Thanks for posting this. It clarified a lot about the mechanics of the song and went far beyond the plethora of substandard tabs on the internet. Keep up the good work.

  • great job!

    thanks

  • Very helpful. I've got a book of chords to all JB's songs but your way sounds much better. Thanks!!!

  • Hey, wha'd'ya know? I beat out the book?! Alright!

  • In the end of the intro just before he starts singing it's 0-0-7-6-0-0 and then 0-0-5-4-0-0 not 0-6-0-6-0-0 and 0-4-0-4-0-0. It sounds better, check it out ;)

  • Great tutorial man.

Just wanted to add that the Jeff Buckley tab book I have lists those two chords before the verse as 11-9-11-0-0-0 for one measure, then 9-7-9-0-0-0 for the last measure.

I personally prefer that one, because you get that moving bass note, instead of sticking on the D. But it's just personal preference and lack of access to a bass player.

  • @SchaapOpJeHoofd - I recently made note of that difference, as well, and I like it better! Lots of ways to translate these sounds, huh? Thanks for the heads up!

  • @dimmy1983 - I agree, that does sound better!

  • Hey, just want to say fantastic tutorial, you're a great teacher. Hopefully you do some more, but thanks!

  • Yes, I'll absolutely put some more tutorials up at some point! Too busy at the moment, unfortunately. But hopefully before too long.

  • request!!!...so real...I think its one of his best...

  • love.. your tutorial bro...great vibe and understanding.thanks

  • thanks for saying so

  • yey!!!! finally! a jeff buckley song to dabble with. always thought i'd suck playing this song. but u made it so easy...yey!!! practice practice practice practice!!! thanks man. =)

  • Ha! Do it!

  • These tutorials are fantastic!!! I've got most of the song down at this point but I'm having trouble with some strumming technique. If you have time could you do a short right hand accompanyment to this tune. Thanks again man you're a great teacher. Oh and nice pipes too! Cheers

  • Hm. Strumming is a hard thing to teach. Though I suppose there are certain elements that can be described, I find it is a more subjective and intuitive experience. No particularly-obvious video instructions or shortcuts come readily to mind. I'm afraid you might be on your own for this part.

  • lol. yeah I wing it and just go with what feel natural... but I'm seriously barely picking up the instrument so I am probably making some serious technical mistakes with things as simple as holding the pick etc... I guess I will head of into cyberspace and look for some fundamentals. Thanks for the reply anyhow.

  • Strumming is the rhythm, so think of the beat of the drum and mimmic it with your right hand. example strum down once on a kick, and down again on the snare, the a quick down, up, down, down. Not easy to explain but practice that for the intro

  • ive struggled for agees figuring these tabs out, watched your vids and dude im flowing! Brilliant!

  • Right on! Thanks for saying so!

  • thanks man!thats a great tutorial.

  • Excellent!
