DUDE !!! i was so shocked after seeing this. I have experienced this beam of light, shooting on me. When it hitted me I felt a super strong feeling of love power etc.. in me. I couldnt hold it. OMG!!! I didnt know god did this to me. I thought it was one of those supernatural stuff that happend to me, but wasnt anything special!!!

The example you used is a classic catch 22 which amounts to a demand for obedient service to the church with a wishy-washy threat/punishment scheduled to happen after death (hence unprovable).

What you fail to acknowledge and cant answer is why after 39 years of believing and seeing no evidence of god in my life should I conclude that the notion of god is more than a notion

I understand you belief that the power of jesus christ changes lives but what exactly is it that separates this from a delusion? The power of belief is proven to change lives, it doesn't have to be based on anything real or supernatural.

The passage speaks of being born again (changing your life etc), again people have life changing experiences and they have nothing to do with god. What is different?

as you said, "what is different" because you haven't study of God through Theology of Christians have two different view that people have freewill through faith and God's see that who chose him and he chose them. another view Christian said, God's grace alone to show mercy on who he will before the foundation of the world.

SamNoble89...I personally have met Buddhist that were very nice, but does not prove that they are spiritually correct. Doing good is not what gets you to heaven. What you have to worry about is what Christ said about being "the truth the way and the life, and no one coming to the father except by Him." John 14:6. Was Jesus Lying? Was He a lunatic, or was He saying the truht... hta is what you have to get right...or you can be as good as you want and end up in hell.

Your problem: you view all religious life changing experiences a priori as equal. You don't realize that Christianity in its core is not a religious system and therefore unlike different than what you call world religions. The nature of a Christian conversion is that it is by the free grace of God. The vertical direction is different than in religion. As C.S. Lewis put it: "The Christian does not think God will love us because we are good, but that God will make us good because He loves us."

I believe that other religions/ philosophy's can have equally dramatic affects on other peoples lives and this is backed up by what we see in real life.

What I'm trying to get at here is what makes this change from god? what separates the christian who really does get experiences from god and someone who thinks they do?

They both act differently (in accordance to their own theology) and believe it comes from god after all.

Religion says you can change yourself; however, The Bible says you are dead in your sins and need Christ to come and change your life, namely, make you alive in Him.

So the thing that distinguishes this change is Jesus Christ. Moreover, this change in Christianity is supernatural and divine and eternal, whereas the "change" that religion brings is natural, human willed, and temporary.

Religion cannot save you. Religious people are in fact the ones who killed Christ. Christ alone

I wasn't asking about what makes your theology different (maybe that wasn't clear) I am asking since all religions will claim their experiences are from god and that their theology has saved them (or whatever) what is it about these christian experiences that makes them different?

I would have to agree with LinkD3.

I would simply add that I am not saying that other peoples experiences are a delusion; I would be foolish to deny the reality of the god of this world; namely satan/sin.

So yes, people in other religions (mormonism, catholicism, j.w., hinduism, buddhism, etc) very well may experience spiritual things. These spiritual experiences that come from religions have no way of saving the person and are in fact demonic or against the LORD Jesus.

Because 1# what Piper is talking about here is NOT a "religion". He's talking about a relationship with the one and only God of this universe.

So the difference?

While "Change" happens in the lives of religious people its all mere behavior modification on the surface.

Where as with Christ he makes you a new creature completely from the heart out. And the evidence is crystal clear as daylight in the lives of true genuine believers. its awesome, its beautiful. And Christ wants and loves you to.
