In my newspaper I read some of the backgrounds of some arrested looters. 18 year old James Antwil, attacking a police officer and damaging a car, is a student at Clapham College. 22 yr old Jason Akinole robbed a jeweler, works from 9 to 5 in a gym. 18 yr old Ali Ford robbed a gamblingoffice in Brixton. He lives with his parents, goes to a mosque regularly and studies business economics. These riots aren't about the bad conditions that people live in. They are about rioting for the sake of it!

The London riot clearly shows the British government's failure to address the current social decline which was created by large corporations using cheap foreign labor to gain huge profits and neglecting the local citizens with fair income to cope with the rising cost of living. @croydonriots Black Panthers WERE a form of backlash against the racism faced by the black community from WHITE people. You cannot simply say the rioting is based on "GREED and LOOTING". People have a wide array of emotions and reasons for them, it's far more complicated than you're making it out to be. He words speak of a past experience you may not be able to understand. He comes from a different time, a different place.

@element1108 Speaking as an original BP, there IS a large criminal element in these riots. Reasons are twofold: the kids are being screwed, but do not know who is doing it, so they lash out blindly. The gov' doesn't want them wised up and politicized, cos' they are easier to demonize and control as mere looters.
2ndly, We do not have free speech any more. Thus anyone who attempts to educate, lead or direct them will be jointly charged with any inadvertent crime they might subsequently commit.

I was commenting on the individual in the video and how I don't personally see him as a racist. He can't help identify these actions (ignorant as it may seem) to the race fueled movements of the 60's70's. I do believe it is somewhat of a class system divide as you say, but each individual causing the chaos has their own agenda. Mostly because it's "fun"

In my newspaper I read some of the backgrounds of some arrested looters. 18 year old James Antwil, attacking a police officer and damaging a car, is a student at Clapham College. 22 yr old Jason Akinole robbed a jeweler, works from 9 to 5 in a gym. 18 yr old Ali Ford robbed a gamblingoffice in Brixton. Now, just because white or asian people participate, doesn't mean that it wasn't a racial/social issue that inspired it. It doesn't mean that there aren't white or asian people who feel oppressed, and want to take this chance to get their part of the pie. Hell, some white people supported anti-slavery. This guy is racist....he was part of the Black Panther movement and was arrested for it in his younger days. Rather than using the airtime to calm the situation down, he inflamed the sitution and turned it into a race issue.
By concentrating on the same old 'stop and search' excuses, he was completely ignorant to the REAL REASONS for the riot - GREED and LOOTING.
He was not objective in his views - the issues and flaws that black people are facing of their own fault.

@croydonriots Black Panthers WERE a form of backlash against the racism faced by the black community from WHITE people. You cannot simply say the rioting is based on "GREED and LOOTING". People have a wide array of emotions and reasons for them, it's far more complicated than you're making it out to be. He words speak of a past experience you may not be able to understand. He comes from a different time, a different place.

They were of a cause far more superficial than human rights. Senseless violence. The riots were "sparked" by the shooting, but the violence escalated because of nonsense. The only thing I disagree with you on is I don't think this guy's a racist. No community should have suffered, this is all pointless.

I was commenting on the individual in the video and how I don't personally see him as a racist. He can't help identify these actions (ignorant as it may seem) to the race fueled movements of the 60's70's. I do believe it is somewhat of a class system divide as you say, but each individual causing the chaos has their own agenda. Mostly because it's "fun"

Because the kids can't articulate why they riot, does not mean their actions are not political - they are a product of the system. If they had better lives, would they be so destructive? They respond emotionally to THEIR experience.

Unfortunately I don't know the history of Darcus but you do need to listen to all sides of the story, to me the questioning by the bbc was inappropriate. The government need to do is listen, making too many cutbacks to quickly, they have to take some responsibility for these riots. obviously these people looting have nothing to aspire to and have no respect for anyone. the police need to take harder action and not listen to few that say they are heavy handed, just leave them to do their job and
