Also, as to why the economy is messed up, there is the obvious reason i.e. the collapse of the housing market because people brought houses they couldn't afford, but also some of these college majors out there. What are you going to do with something like "Gender studies" or "Art history"? Someone gets a major that is so far academic that it has no real world skills, and then claim its not fair that there are no jobs for them after college? What did they expect?
@halofable574 But they COULD have afforded them if the "banksters", "wall street" whatever you want to call them hadn't porked the economy beyond repair, causing many homeowners to lose their jobs or at the very least find themselves "underwater." And as for liberal arts majors, most were actually getting decent jobs BEFORE the 2008 crash. And a lot of students in so-called "hard majors" can't get work either these days. Wake up and smell the coffee.
I am not saying he does not make a huge point. I would say after listening to some of the protestors, I'd say their point is more "Why does this rich guy get more of a say in the government than me?" rather than "why does this rich guy get to have so much more stuff than me?". Still he has a point, I will never know what these protestors think they are accomplishing. The CEOs and people they are protesting are not paying attention to them, and if they do, they sure don't care.
@halofable574 Maybe not. But OWS performed at least one useful service. It raised the consiousness of the bottom 99 percent, many of whom were not aware of rampant income inequality, or just the amount of damage the "banksters" did to the US economy. So OWS sowed the seeds of real (perhaps revolutionary) change down the road.
@fantom58 only time will tell, but also thats just capitalism. That provides incentive, the harder you work, the more you accomplish the more money you get. It inspires them to do better, that doesn't always work but I am just trying to make sure both sides of the argument are present on this video. I get there are trust fund babies out there.
@halofable574 There's a dialectic at work. "Free market" capitalism is dying of its own internal contradictions. That's why it can no longer create good jobs, and often relies on "cronying up" to the government to survive. It's decline accounts for the "new normal" of high unemployment. It's also accounts for skyrocketing health care and college tuition costs. We are moving slowly but inexorably towards a publicly-owned economy. It's as inevitable as sunrise.
The next time a "One World" socialist pig asks you for more tax dollars (which he will promptly spend on war, and nationalization of his bedfellow's failed business ventures).....you'll know what to say.

@fantom58 The only thing that scares me about the garbage you spew is that someone might actually be ignorant enough to buy it. Look at times when the US was at its greatest and look at the POLICIES in place at the time. There are countless examples of when you constrain the means of production, (business) they go elswhere. The rhetoric you people consume is killing this country and if not reversed, will create a state of dependence through culture, look at Greece.
@whiteporsche914 That's why the ultimate outcome of the demise of capitalism will be PUBLICLY-OWNED means of production. Since they'll be PUBLICLY-OWNED, they'll stay in the good-ol' US of A, not be shipped off to China or some such place. As bad as the former USSR was, at least it never outsourced its manufacturing base. How do you think it was able to maintain full employment?
I think Carolla misses the point a little here. There was legitimately evil corruption and manipulation that caused the last recession, yes the everyday man played his part with over spending and many living beyond their means but its not as simple as 'shamed lazy people who can't be bothered to work'.
@2011hwalker Shut up occufaggot hes dead on correct. Every single piece of degenerate shit scumbag out there occupying is doing it because they are butthurt. They are clueless mindless assfaggots that have been spawned by Oboingo and his class warfare tactics of re-election.
@SkillGrip The "class warfare" you talk about is being waged by the "one percent", "wall street", "banksters" whatever you want to call them AGAINST the 99 percent. And those "shit scumbags" you whine about are doing what they are doing because, A., income inequality is at an all time high in modern American history, and B. the "banksters" have porked the economy so royally that it's virtually impossiblte to get a decent job. The "free market system" is dying. At least the OWSers see that.
@fantom58 You're a moron. You're a whining uneducated moron who has envy and jealousy instead of ambition and determination. Oh wahhhhhh you cant buy a Ferrari, cry me a fucking river. You want to sit back Facebooking talking about subjects you couldnt begin to understand and then telling the rest of us that you have all the answers when you cant even bathe yourselves? Fuck the fuck off faggot. I've got money, I earned it, you cant have any. Piss yourself with rage occutard.
@fantom58 The fact that went right over your head proves without any doubt why you and your kind are the clueless dumb fuck moron scumbag scrubby bums we all know you to be.
@SkillGrip And while you're at it, google the phrase "dialectical materialism." Capitalism as we know it is dying. That's why it cannot create jobs that pay a living wage any more, and that's why it's forced to "crony up" to government in order to survive. It's dying of its own internal contradictions. The ultimate outcome is going to be a PUBLICLY-OWNED economy. Whether or not we want that doesn't matter. It's as certain as sunup.
@fantom58 Uhhhh bullshit? The inability to create jobs in America is due to the overbearing regulation and excessive taxing of business. Government saying who you have to hire, how much you have to pay them, and what benefits you have to provide all of which always go up when some politician needs votes. And until youve been a player in the business world you cant begin to understand how government has their hands up your ass grabbing every penny possible.
@fantom58 lol you clearly ignore history, when you come up with conclusions, and then you fail to see the real problem and attribute it to something else. either way no one taught you how to think for yourself properly.
@fantom58 public owned enterprise simply doesnt work. mostly because people are greedy people, which is to say, all people will more often than not take what they can get. It cronys up to the government because the governement promises riskless wealth which in turn creates bubbles. the governement should be there to restrict evil and nothing more. enforce property enforce law and do not tamper with markets.
@shilelea I've got news for you, sunshine. People are greedy in capitalism too, that's one of the things that are destroying it. And people are not naturally greedy. Greed is a social construct. People who grow up in a capitalist system will be greedy; those who know only socialism won't be. And "bubbles" have always been a part of capitalism (google "south sea bubble" from the 18th century). The decline of capitalism is a natural evoultionary processs (dialectic). It can't be stopped.
@fantom58 Capitalism when it is allowed to run manages greed. and no greed is not a social construct its been around since the beginning. furthermore to say that people in a socialistic society aren't greedy ignores every historic socialistic society. you idiots scoff when when we say lets try capitalism for real, and then turn around and say lets try socialism for real.
@DannyBoy443 I hope you're not dumb enough to believe your own cliches. The "one percent" that you're so enamored with fucked this economy over so royally that the average person can't even find a decent job anymore. The Horatio Alger bootstrap bullshit may have been true years ago, but the deck is stacked now. Actually, the "free-market" is dying, that's why it can't create jobs and is engaging in cronyism. We are moving inexorably to a publicly-owned economy. Dialelctical materialism at work.
what you have to remember is that Adam started as nothing. he actually did work hard to become successful, even tho some people are born into it and are dicks. Adam however sees it as he did hard work and shouldn't be punished (which is true) but a lot of the 99% see the people who are born into wealth should be more humble.
@Wuffells Hard work? He got his start by co-starring on a stupid show with Jimmy Kimmel, where most of the jokes were based on jiggling tits and masturbation. Yeah, that's hard work.
@fantom58 no he actually got his start on radio. But before that he was a carpenter. just a regular average joe. Adam wasn't born into money. and didn't just "get" a TV show for free.
At one time in this country we admired those who were succesful and were taught to emulate them.Increasingly though popular culture has taught us that they are the enemy ie. his success equals my faliure. We as a society once understood that success is guaranteed to anyone if you wanted it you worked hard for it.You learned from those
"The self-entitled pricks" to quote Carolla, who believe that they deserve anything and everything describes a man I worked for who was born with a silver spoon so far up his ass he did not know it was there. Born with money, born with access makes all the difference. The middle class was built off of the GI Bill for the vets coming home from world war II. Carolla is historically ignorant. He should try actually doing try doing some basic research about what happened in the early 20th century.
It is refreshing to see a celebrity feel this way . I am not a wealthy person and I struggle every week to get by , but I don't look a person who is doing better than myself in a negative way . If anything I am seeking advice from that person. We as a nation need to get back on track and take responsibility for actions . People need to understand that hard work and determination will pay off a lot more than just putting your hand out .
His claim that 1% pays 50% is one issue. The other side of this is that 1% own or control more wealth that the next 90% combined. That is clearly wealth disparity and on that fact alone, they should pay more in income tax.
@michaeldmacdonald They do pay more income tax. The point that is made is inadvertently hitting upon the primary issue with our current economy. The middle class is shrinking. I have a problem with taxing people for succeeding. Don't be a little bitch. America is still the land of opportunity. I'll lend you some bootstraps.
@michaeldmacdonald No 1% controls YOUR wealth. Go EARN it. You invest it. No one is controlling you or your money. No one stops you from opening a business (except the government). Sounds like you are part of the population that doesn't pay, so your input is bullshit.
To believe that the top 1/10th are wealthy due solely to hard work and brains is indicative of people who have no comprehension of simple economics. The postings to this are not indicative of people who really understand Keyensian or Galbraithian economics. Mr. Toyota here has no comprehension of these matters. Idiot suffices to explain Mr. Honda.
This guy is telling it how it is. I'm lower middle class but i'm not jelous or envious of the top 1%. They worked hard to get where they are. They built their empires, or their predecessors did and they inherited it based upon either their skill or their liniage. Just because you didn't have a great idea or didn't work as hard why should they be forced to pay more then you? What happened to equality? Maybe if you worked harder you would have more. Quit bitching and get out there and work for it!
I could not agree more. We have listened to the people of the 60's who hated their parents and the government and were stoned tell us how to raise out kids! I agree with you about the Everyone gets a trophy generation
The probably isnt exactly with the 1% of the PEOPLE, but with the large COOPERATION'S they run, who are making alot more money than the 1% are making. They bleed the economy dry, by funneling out wealth outside the country, and lining their own pockets with other peoples hard work and talent.
Applying new taxes to these 1% and CORPORATIONS is a way to get wealth back into the economy and back into the working class who build this country.
The during 80s England and America's economy was in bad shape, and generation X suffered. Now, the same thing is happening to the Y gen....so spare me the curmudgeon bullshit. "The first wave of self entitled monsters". None of this shit is new.
Except for the fact that there are very few jobs, they are not asking for the top 1% to pay for everyone they want them not have to pay shit while they pay out the ass. Yeah the OWS guys are being unrealistic and are not going to accomplish anything but he has a pretty 1 sided view of the world to.
"It used to be, back in the day, a father would be walking his son down the sidewalk, and you'd see a guy go by in a Rolls Royce, and the father would say 'There goes Mr. Jenkins, look up to him. That guy works hard, that guy built a company, he built an empire, now look it him'". What your father didn't tell you was that Mr. Jenkins was working with his political buddy to put policy in place to make THEM more money at YOUR expense, but when you call bullshit, you come from a spoiled generation.
also, railing against envy and jealousy? how about greed and selfishness? what a fucking tool, a real mouthpiece for all those baser elements of contemporary civilization
also, railing against envy and jealousy? how about greed and selfishness? what a fucking tool, a real mouthpiece for all those baser elements of contemporary civilization
wow, those are some sycophantic tools he has backing him up on there. Also, clearly a specious as fuck argument re: top 1% pay 50% of the taxes. Perhaps, but what if the rich only pay .0000001% of their income towards taxes? the percentages remain the same. He's truly a hypocrite for not calling for the abolition of all taxes period. Also, not understanding of how people come by their money. If mass murder for dollars was in, he'd support it. no moral compass. TERRIble!
This is a very narrow minded view of the occupy movement, but older generations are always scared of change. The American Dream is a non existent facade these days that is meant to keep the lower class working in hopes it will one day change. Also, Adam Carolla is a fucking comedian. He contributes little to nothing to society, so get off the high horse bud.
Thedwebb82 that's what it's about!! Oh!! I thought OWS was trying to say we can't find jobs so let's protest an continue to not even look for them!!! But thank for blaming people like bill gates and the partners atop the biggest corporations in America for simply being smarter then you. Sorry you're degree in French literature from st. Boneventure isn't panning like you thought it would. Shut up you godamn pussies relize most of the people on this earth don't give a flying fuck about you.
The Occupy movement is not about being under appreciated or distributing wealth. The concern is: holding the politicians, corporations and banking firms accountable for the detrimental actions that are currently palgueing the U.S. system which are costing us American citizens money! Wake up folks!
I think it's a pathetic manifesto of an egomaniac celebrity who thinks that anyone can work hard and get rich. The lazy 150 million he rails against control 2% of American wealth, but he wants them to pay more tax while continuing to enjoy breaks for him and the other millionaires. OWS are not lazy per se, they are drawing attention to the sickness of Wall Street and the bankers who pay themselves millions then ask for tax dollar handouts when they fuck up.
He's obviously right about this generation, and the OWS is a stupid half-baked trendy movement that's convoluted and ineffective. Getting the money out of politics will NEVER happen... to think otherwise is foolish. The people need to call for justice in specific instances and be educated in politics and economics. Lets organize and have specific goals and motives.
Adam Carolla. There are things here you feel strongly about and things I agree on. But you are miles away from point of occupy wall street. There are more important values than "busting a gut to get ahead in this world". This 'individualistic and materialistic' idea is the root problem behind so many human failings. You cannot deminnish OWWs' vailidity by superficially stereotyping it's proponents. Your rant is not connected with the core idea of this situation.
adam carolla i love you dude but that is really not at all what OWS is about. it's about campaign contributions, about the fact that America's politicians are for sale.
@bombadier203 I'll admit he's at his weakest on the subject of politics, but check him out on other subjects like airplane turbulence and pizza thickness. His critiques of PBS's Huell Howser are particularly inspired.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Back in the day the "Mr. Jenkins"s of the world ran companies that cared about employees. People complain about a deterioration in the working man but forget that their employers have fallen further and created an environment where the average worker is expected to job hop every 2~4 years, as the traditional gold watch has largely been replaced by the pink slip. Not to mention Carolla (a dropout who lucked into everything) more than anybody has benefited from an undeserved sense of entitlement
This is not about Occupy. He doesn't even mention OWS. This broadcast was made before OWS even existed, and those that are taking offense to it, or using it as some kind of evidence, are both using it in misplaced context. OWS isn't about hating the rich just because, it's about exposing the 1% that are exploiting or destroying the economy as a result of greed.
I can't believe this is the America I grew up in? What happened to the melting pot? Since when did we as a nation turn around and start hating one another? And WHEN DID ADAM CAROLLA, half a comedian (not one of you would even know who the fuck he was if it weren't for Jimmy Kimmel carrying this man through the man show) become some sort of political professional? He his a satirist. ASSHOLES who do you think he is really mocking? Was he an expert allowed to swear like a sailor on the news?
He would be one of those hippies with a protest sign if he hadn't been so lucky in his life. As someone without any type of education or skills other than ranting where would he be without stupid blind luck? But it's common for people like him to detach themselves from reality and to think they are entirely the cause of their financial success and everyone else is just lazy.
No one gives a shit about you but yourselves. This movement will be DOA just like Obama. "What about me?" keep crying....get your unemployment check and good luck with your new job when this is over kids. Bunch of losers. Quit clouding the young minds of tomorrow.
the fact there are 149 dislikes means there's 149 fat kids that got mvp trophys that are pissed they don't have shit now. it's 149 people that show why our country is gonna be in the shitter. please hang yourselves and save me the bullet later.
This movement isn't about people being upset that rich people are rich, it's about lobbyists, interest groups and rich donors paying off politicians who then use their influence in government to rig the system in favor of the people backing them financially. Adam Carolla is a moron and doesn't get it, and a lot of you don't get it either.
@CaptainJordan You have those things in every government in the world, including ours. Name a country that doesn't have some sort of payoffs? Mexico? UK? Please give us the answer wise sir.
Everybody is an ass douche Adam. You are an ass douche, I am an ass douche, every commented here. You make a lot of assumptions but here is the truth. The wealthy didn't become wealthy from hard work, not everybody has the same grass roots. The people who OWS are just as lazy as the people who work there. Some people work their guts out their whole life for nothing, and some people don't do shit and get everything, and the opposite. Everybody just wants to get be mad and get behind something.
If you disagree with this stop using his Amazon link. Listen for free because Glodman Sachs is now subsidizing his bullsh-t now. He's not too informed on the details , but they explain it to him in simplistic terms.

@fantom58 The fact that went right over your head proves without any doubt why you and your kind are the clueless dumb fuck moron scumbag scrubby bums we all know you to be.
SkillGrip 1 month ago
@SkillGrip And while you're at it, google the phrase "dialectical materialism." Capitalism as we know it is dying. That's why it cannot create jobs that pay a living wage any more, and that's why it's forced to "crony up" to government in order to survive. It's dying of its own internal contradictions. The ultimate outcome is going to be a PUBLICLY-OWNED economy. Whether or not we want that doesn't matter. It's as certain as sunup.
fantom58 1 month ago
@fantom58 Uhhhh bullshit? The inability to create jobs in America is due to the overbearing regulation and excessive taxing of business. Government saying who you have to hire, how much you have to pay them, and what benefits you have to provide all of which always go up when some politician needs votes. And until youve been a player in the business world you cant begin to understand how government has their hands up your ass grabbing every penny possible.
SkillGrip 1 month ago
@fantom58 lol you clearly ignore history, when you come up with conclusions, and then you fail to see the real problem and attribute it to something else. either way no one taught you how to think for yourself properly.
shilelea 4 weeks ago
@fantom58 public owned enterprise simply doesnt work. mostly because people are greedy people, which is to say, all people will more often than not take what they can get. It cronys up to the government because the governement promises riskless wealth which in turn creates bubbles. the governement should be there to restrict evil and nothing more. enforce property enforce law and do not tamper with markets.
shilelea 4 weeks ago
@shilelea I've got news for you, sunshine. People are greedy in capitalism too, that's one of the things that are destroying it. And people are not naturally greedy. Greed is a social construct. People who grow up in a capitalist system will be greedy; those who know only socialism won't be. And "bubbles" have always been a part of capitalism (google "south sea bubble" from the 18th century). The decline of capitalism is a natural evoultionary processs (dialectic). It can't be stopped.
fantom58 4 weeks ago

That is clearly wealth disparity and on that fact alone, they should pay more in income tax.
michaeldmacdonald 2 months ago
@michaeldmacdonald They do pay more income tax. The point that is made is inadvertently hitting upon the primary issue with our current economy. The middle class is shrinking. I have a problem with taxing people for succeeding. Don't be a little bitch. America is still the land of opportunity. I'll lend you some bootstraps.
bigkahunah 1 month ago

The probably isnt exactly with the 1% of the PEOPLE, but with the large COOPERATION'S they run, who are making alot more money than the 1% are making. They bleed the economy dry, by funneling out wealth outside the country, and lining their own pockets with other peoples hard work and talent.
Applying new taxes to these 1% and CORPORATIONS is a way to get wealth back into the economy and back into the working class who build this country.

wow, those are some sycophantic tools he has backing him up on there. TERRIble!
badger279 2 months ago
This is a very narrow minded view of the occupy movement, but older generations are always scared of change. The American Dream is a non existent facade these days that is meant to keep the lower class working in hopes it will one day change. Also, Adam Carolla is a fucking comedian. He contributes little to nothing to society, so get off the high horse bud.

Thedwebb82 that's what it's about!! Oh!! I thought OWS was trying to say we can't find jobs so let's protest an continue to not even look for them!!! cpoledog14 2 months ago

ZCT808 2 months ago
He's obviously right about this generation, and the OWS is a stupid half-baked trendy movement that's convoluted and ineffective. Getting the money out of politics will NEVER happen... to think otherwise is foolish. The people need to call for justice in specific instances and be educated in politics and economics. Lets organize and have specific goals and motives.
DANCEwhiteyDANCE 2 months ago
Adam Carolla. There are things here you feel strongly about and things I agree on. But you are miles away from point of occupy wall street. There are more important values than "busting a gut to get ahead in this world". This 'individualistic and materialistic' idea is the root problem behind so many human failings. You cannot deminnish OWWs' vailidity by superficially stereotyping it's proponents. Your rant is not connected with the core idea of this situation.

OWS isn't about hating the rich just because, it's about exposing the 1% that are exploiting or destroying the economy as a result of greed.
mistersneak 2 months ago
I can't believe this is the America I grew up in? What happened to the melting pot? Since when did we as a nation turn around and start hating one another? And WHEN DID ADAM CAROLLA, half a comedian (not one of you would even know who the fuck he was if it weren't for Jimmy Kimmel carrying this man through the man show) become some sort of political professional? He his a satirist. ASSHOLES who do you think he is really mocking? Was he an expert allowed to swear like a sailor on the news?
