I have been watching videos about lions and other big cats. Here is what confuses me. In some videos getting near lions without fence or other means of protection (being in the car etc.) is impossible. And in some other videos crew is 5 feet away from the lions in the convertible jeeps.. So, do lions attack humans or not? Someone who is expert in this field please share your knowledge... Thanks

Male lions patrol the outskirts of the prides territory. Depending on the size (of the territory) the male or males (coalition) can be gone for up to 6 months at a time. They eat somehow. I hate how people think that male lions cannot hunt or is more lazy than the females. true when they are with the pride they eat first but it's their biotches and children anyways. They fight so they can control the area and pass on there genes.
Male lions are only good for fighting each other. They aren't as fast as the females, they aren't smart enough for ambush attacks like the tigers & leopards. One thing they're very good at is scavenging around.

The fastest animals are not bulked up with tons of muscle, they're lightweight and aerodynamic. Male lions prioritize on fighting off enemies and protecting their pride, so nature sacrificed a bit of their ability to hunt to make them stronger and fearsome. They do hunt and they are fast, it's just not their strongest point
Male lions are definetly good hunters. I went on a safari the other day where a two male lions caught a warthog. They then fought over it where the one brother won. The other one then very upset ran off and killed a Eland and a Black Wildebeest right next to each other. The lionesses are like women, they belong in the kitchen! that is why they would serve the males by catching their food for them!

However, females do have more stamina, which may be why some come off as strong as fast. As for the Male lions, they are strong, but because of their bulky figure, I'd say the lionesses have the upper hand in speed. Also, theres not a very strong sense of hierarchy within lion, I believe. I'm not so sure.

Male lions are definetly good hunters. I went on a safari the other day where a two male lions caught a warthog. They then fought over it where the one brother won. The other one then very upset ran off and killed a Eland and a Black Wildebeest right next to each other. The lionesses are like women, they belong in the kitchen! that is why they would serve the males by catching their food for them!

However, men have the ABILITY to gain more muscle mass than females, however they do not always acquire it. Muscle varies between males and females. Females may sometimes be stronger/faster than males, and males may sometimes be stronger/faster than females. Either way, you are simply implying that males are born with the muscle. Uh, no. They have to work for it, just the same as females. So men makes better chefs? Is this a proven fact? I believe not.

@ShadeOfficial1 Thats true in some way(speed, but rarely strength. I dont do a lot of excersice yet I am stronger and faster than my wife that goes to the gym all the time. You might then also agree that the male lions are the strongest and fastest as if you know nature only the strongest survive, the weak lions gets kicked out and week lionesses is last in hierarcy.

@Donelouw No, not rarely, It actually happens more than you would think, but again, males are able to gain more strength. However, females do have more stamina, which may be why some come off as strong as fast. As for the Male lions, they are strong, but because of their bulky figure, I'd say the lionesses have the upper hand in speed. Also, theres not a very strong sense of hierarchy within lion, I believe. I'm not so sure.

Serve the males? If the male lion is no where in sight they eat it right there and then. Its probably preferred if males are not around when they make the kill. Its not like they wait around for him before eating. Believe it or not there have also been cases where the females join in on the fight against an invading male lion as well. If you want to go bringing in the stereotypes though, He ISN'T bringing in the bacon she is.

I have lived in South Africa for my whole life and my passion is wildlife. There is no way the females are better or faster as then they would have protected the pride. Also do yourselve a fovour and watch Nat Geo's eternal enemies.

Ive never said that lionesses dont do the hunting, but the conversation is about the fact that they were saying that the male lion just gets in the way. This is absolute crap, and being from Kenya you should agree.The male can take down bigger prey than a lioness. males have manes to protect them when they fight and I dont think the mane makes a huge difference as the hunt is really not that long. Male lions are notoriously slower and less competent at hunting. a lioness is marshalled with the experience and knowledge of hunting and the agility and speed surpassed only by tigers, cheetahs and leopards. a male lion can't hunt, end of.
