its too bad wind energy is soo expensive if it were compaiable somewhat to other sources of power I would think it would be ok but I don't because the cost is way out of control. I wish enviromentalists would stop promoting wind energy until it becomes responably affordable. And besides I sure there are other better and cheeper forms of energy available people just have to think harder. Man all I could think was how much oil concrete, steel and n.gas was required to build that thing. I read somewhere that the average wind turbine gear box holds 2800 gals of oil which has to be specially made and regularly changed. Image the iron ore mining that is needed to get the raw material to build that thing! And the footprint of the factories to build them! And they say they work only 1/3rd of the time on avg.

How much energy goes into building giant buildings for banks, corporations, how about cell phone towers, speed boats, snow mobiles?

Keep this in mind, wind turbines produce more energy than it cost to build and run it over it's life span, that's called a positive return, here is the big factor, it's cleaner than oil/coal!

I have hauled nearly everything needed to make one for GE from the LA ports, Houston ports, and Philly. The main gear box on the large turbine weighs 42,000 pounds. It might have 4 gallons of oil in it. But your right about one thing, for one of those to go up, add in 20 truck loads of fuel to haul everything around and set up which is 4400 gallons of diesel.
