the problem IS - these guys don't know to how to record videos! sorry, that's the fact. you're IN a music store, put a MIC on the drum! a good mic! don't rely on the audio from your cheap video-cam!
- in this clip the aquarian sounds like a freebie bass drum .wav file for sampling. or just plain weak. TRUST me though, this IS a great drum-head! with just one good mic it sounds like a million bucks in my studio! a great head, but these days i actually prefer the aquarian force 1 clear.
I have a question? So im thinking of buying these heads but my question is there are 2 heads rite so that means 1 for each side? Or wat haha i kno it might sound stupid but i am confused lol (:
spk2s are the best bass drum heads period ,for live and recording.you put nothing in the drum and tune it up and pow. i just put on a ps3 and it is good but i am going to need some kind of extra muff to get it as punchy as the super 2s.
@TheStrainers and dont forget the kick pad its the best, better than evans and remo, those patchs suck i go through them, never went through a kick pad, dont forget, the kick pad is super sticky, once its on its on for ever.
What the fuck does this vid prove? 1: no reso, 2: I bet 75% of the people here preferred the sound of the first head like this, thing is, theres no way to check because the cam has a crappy mic
Powerstroke 3's aren't 2 ply heads, this is really an inaccurate comparison, either way, P3's and SP2's are both best selling bass heads, if he used a stock bass head (excluding top of the line drums, since they come with good heads" then it would show how good it is...
aquarian makes the best bass drum heads around. DONT put a pillow or any muffling in your kick drum! Your drum is either shitty or needs some new bearing edge work. good heads+good bearing edges= great sounding drum!
You have no reso head on your bassdrum!!! Cant make a demo this way.! And you gotta have a bassdrum mic on if were gonna here what the head sounds like! Here its sounds like some cheap shit any way! And why cant we play jazz on the head??
Everyone has his/her own style and in jazz you "play what you feel"!
the first head was a powerstroke 3, however I just bought a superkick II 3 days ago and it's the best head I've ever had, I had a small towel pressed against my previous head, man with his head I actually had to remove the towel and it sounds so good, it's so punchy I just love it, my bass drum is 18x22 and however it needs no muffling at all
I friggen love my 22" superkick II. I use it with a Coated Ambassador resonant head. No internal muffling. Just strips of Paper towel on the inside of the ambassador, and a little extra on the Superkick II. I get a real super fat sound.
Hmm... Strange feelings about this comparison demo.
This Remo Powerstroke doesn't sound that bad to me and I'm sure it doesn't sound that bad for other drummers too. The less we can objectively say is that the Aquarian head has a different sound. Not better nor worst, it's only a matter of individual taste and feel.
Evans, Remo, Aquarian, etc. are all making great quality heads. It's up to us to try and choose the head we like for our application. It's not up to the shop salesman.
Oh so wrong! The Remo Powerstroke 3 which is a single ply muffled head, is the industry standard. A PS3 or PS3 style head comes on more kits stock than any other type or brand. Remo is always the #1 choice on backline kits unless otherwise noted by the artist.
Also, the guy in the video said the Powerstroke 3 is a 2 ply, He is wrong. It's a 1 ply 10mil medium weight head with a muffle ring around the edge of the head. FANTASTIC bass drum batter!
Believe it or not, a 1 ply 10mil medium weight head can be more durable than a 2 ply head. The problem with 2 ply bass drum heads is one of the thinner plies splits then the head sound changes and is far less durable. A 2 ply head has two thinner plies that are 7mil each. Its easier to break one of those 7mil plies than it is to break 1 thicker 10mil ply.
The sound difference between the 2 is basically the PS4 is more muffled, a bit more punch or thump.
Standard double-ply bass drum head? That's a PS3. One ply head with an outer ring for dampening. In my opinion, you can't beat a PS3. It also sounded better to my ears than the SKII did.
Yup, superkick 1 is very similar to the superkick 2. The sk1 is a single ply head, and the sk2 is a two ply head. The sk2 is a little darker sounding, maybe a little punchier. Two ply heads are more durable. So the sk2 would be more durable. Great heads.
@shockwave2468 Glad you dig it! The song is an original composition and recording from Eric Lacovara in the purchasing department here at George's Music. He also does a lot of the gear videos we post and is an excellent guitar player!
@shockwave2468 I have tried it, i broke it in a couple weeks idk how o_O!!! itsa very good head, but in my opinion, the Eans EMAD is better for sound, and durability.
im curious about clear vs. coated when it comes to the superkick, even with the patch. is there really a difference in sound with a coated bass drum head even with a patch. and a felt beater?
This is the ULTIMATE way to showcase a drum product. A video is far more valuable that 5,00 written reviews. It's the basic sound that really makes the difference. The SKII is indeed, deeper and warmer sounding than the powerstroke 3. Also, for speed: I have a cordless black and decker power driver that holds a drum key bit. I can change a kick drum head in seconds. (a speed handle or key for fine tuning).
I don't think this is a very accurate demo. Most people have a reso head on their bass and taking that away doesn"t give an accurate comparison. Besides, that powerstroke head also has a dampening ring and has very little to no overtones.
I agree. I also would like him to clarify what a "normal" bass drum head is. Does he mean stock or what? Because that definitely looks like a pinstripe to me.
@WoWintosh The fact SKII has few overtones is clearly stated. A single head demo sounds *obviously* different to me, so it is a great demo. I agree however, a 2-headed demo will be beneficial. The SKII is great for taming bright kicks like oak, acrylic and some birch kicks. The sound is deep, warm and focused much like the evans emad, except without the plasticky slap.
would you reccomend this or the emad?

the cuestion is this well i tried this bith drum heads with 2 differents sets but the same size, but they were different
i think
ps is better
1st of all they got more volume
2nd with a resonant head aquarian is getting almost a "wall" sound wich i dont like, even i hate it
3thpower stroke can be tunned to jazz tunning (is not the best but it can be tunned like that)
i think ps3 is better
but is all about likes and dislikes, i should try to make my own comparation on MY bass drum :)
