Ha. I bet the driver of the unit at 2:12 was jealous lol. Wish I'd been on the train, or at least the platform to give a resounding, dare i say it, "My Lords"!
This takes me back 2 1968 wnen i was a boy , i played in a field close 2 lines 2 blackburn/ roe lee, these metal thunder dragons captivated our imaginations, and shook every bone in our bodies if we leaned over the fences, the later trains were tame in comparison 2 these diesel dinosaurs, they had character and smell.!
You know its a fascinating video this, funny thing is when 22 approaches Doncaster, the compressor fires up, and it feels like 22 has a proud roar passing the plant, sort of like Look at me STILL GOIN!
This is absolutly amazing. Thank you for posting. I was in Grantham yesterday when a deltic went through at speed. It was fantastic.
I though that engines like this were firmly in the history books never to be played with again. I would love to know how many Deltics are in use today (May 2010)
I don't know what the drivers are winging on about. Look at steam locos, even worse for visibility. And then there's American locos with their centre cabs
Dont get me wrong I love the Deltic but the cab seems to be quite difficult to drive the train from, cant really see and it is incredibly small considering it being a very large loco. 5*
Great stuff,it reminds me of when i secondmanned it on 22nd Feb 1997 King's Cross to Norwich, never did get to drive it,has anyone any footage from that trip??Also has anyone got footage of the 25th Sept 1999 'Last Chance' railtour,I'd love to see footage of 37109 on the stops at King's Cross on full power in neutral,I was the driver on it for the Donny KX bit, sorry it went a bit tits up but I got it sorted with some help eventually.
Great stuff!!This stretch of line runs past where I use to live(around 2:04 mark on the Video)on the right about 1/4 mile from the ECML.You could always hear when one of these Deltic's was coming. Thanks for sharing this great video.Happy days!!
Dreadful!

Pointless four minute video spent staring through one window at rail track and overhead cable......why? What about the INSIDE of the cab?

Why do you thank yourself in the end credits?

American locos with centre cabs? Where have you been lately? Modern North American locos have end cabs.

Yes it is a high cab but we may not have had the driver's eye view as the camera may have been positioned lower than normal eye view.
LMSStanier 3 years ago
Still be quite difficult. I like both, but the HSTs could be quite easier to drive.

True.

Great footage! Love the cab bells (indicating the clear road ahead). Also seems like a relatively quiet cab too!
Toyboy789 4 years ago
That's the AWS bell. They were actually very noisy, but the sound was pure music!!
