  • try to find one major league pitcher that has their back leg touching the rubber at the time of release. I guarantee you will not find one slow motion video of a pitcher who has their back leg on the rubber at release.

  • seriously how is it illegal? all he has to do is be in contact with the rubber through the start of him going toward the batter. and he is so your quite retarded.

  • HOW IS IT ILLEGAL?

  • hahaha yea thryl, i mean, NO PITCHER EVER LEG KICKS THEIR BACK FOOT STAYS ON THE RUBBER THE WHOLE TIME, RU KIDDING ME LEARN BASEBALL BEFORE YOU MAKE SUCH A DUMBASS COMMENT, IF LINCECUM'S MOVE IS ILLEGAL THEN EVERY PITCHER IN BASEBALL'S MOVE IS ILLEGAL HAHA!!!!

  • @KidCairbre I'm sorry to ruin your junior detective work, but most good pitchers slide off the mound like that. I'm in college and I do the same thing

  • Back foot leaves the rubber clearly before his front foot plants...he doesn't do this every single time, or even most of the time. But cold busted here.

  • Illegal?.......how do you figure?

  • lol wut? Not even close. Look at Jordan Walden's if you want a more tangible argument.

  • dear sir, "your dumb" is not a comprehensible English statement

  • your dumb.. good day sir

  • @crobinson2929 my dumb what?

  • hey how bout you die

  • winalldayeveryday- notice how he uses his whole body to throw the ball. anyways, your probably a dogers fan haha

  • guaranteed with that motion Lincecum will fuckin blow out his elbow soon and never pitch again. Theres no way your elbow can make that type of motion so many times and have no side effect

  • Rangers fan here. He best us in the 2010 world series. I'm still bitter towards the giants. I hate Lincecum with every fiber of my being. With that being said, that is a 100% legal delivery.

  • Ummm.... I'm a Rockies fan, but I see no illegality here.

  • In the USSSA rulebook it says you must have both feet on the rubber at the beggining of your windup. I start with one foot down and over in the dirt so i got called for a balk at least 4 times that game. But in HS, College, and MLB theres no such rule. You sir are a Dodgers fan

  • Jealous much?

  • @thyrl how is this illegal

  • sorry but as a baseball coach.. i tell my pitchers to do the same thing.. the pitching rubber is not there to show where to stand.. it is anchored there to allow the pitcher to push off as he delivers the pitch. look at all the good pitchers they are 6-8 inch in front of the rubber when they are bringing thier arms over their heads... illeagle.. i dont think so

  • HAHAHAHA illegal motion? this guy must be a dodgers fan.

  • @McNastyy99 Apparently. I mean It was clearly not an illegal motion

  • @rudypeni

Cause im sure u were almost as good as these guys right ;(

  • You are either a Dodger or Phillie fan! lol Douchebag!

  • quit being dumb.

  • Not illegal. And for those of you who appreciate good pitching mechanics, this is actually pretty good. He has a long flexible torso which requires him to twist a bit more to create power, immediately released after the lead foot lands. He stays back, he stays closed, and for his particular body type, it's hard to find much wrong with it..

  • @jfbro17

You forgot to mention that since he is a SF Giant, he has a massive vagina, that makes him more aerodynamic than other pitchers who have penises.

  • @lewisclark1800

I have to admit...that made me laugh

  • This is ridiculous. Rules state you must have contact with the rubber when you begin your delivery - That means you can break contact during delivery.

  • His arm action has change dramatically, you can see he bounces his arm off leg and it drags behind putting so much pressure on elbow. Tommy John in next year or so if he does not change back to his old ways.

  • @mikenegs That part of his arm action isn't a problem, you can tell from the way he bends his elbow, that he is not bouncing it off of his thigh, just touching it. However, he does have a slight inverted L in his delivery, that might make his vulnerable to injuries, but because he has such a long stride, he does experience a timing problem.

  • TIGERSSSSSSSSSSSSSsss

  • wasn't koufax's career cut short due to bad form for his early years. I would hate to see him cut his career short too. Bad form can blow out the hip or the arm easy, blew my arm out by 20

  • Nothing illegal here. I would also argue that this motion wont necessarily equal shorten career or increase injuries. His motion was developed by his dad who worked at BOEING!!! Its the most efficient mechanics for his size. Just as long as he keeps his conditioning and strength training up he will have a long and successful career.

  • No drive off that back leg. His youth is saving him. He won't make it into his 30's with that twisting.

  • The twins stunk this year but..... GO TWINS!

  • Well most of the time its so quick that the umpires cant see it or its so little its not noticeable. I know its not illegal but in his delivery, the ball moves slightly forward when its behind his back. Just bothers me.

  • Well... at least now we know that Lincecum is a time bomb until he breaks down like Oswalt has. Long stride pitchers only have so long until their back doesn't let them do what they used to.

  • @xristosdomini its called aging retard every athlete thats played the game goes through it

  • @burnape1 Retard? That's no way to talk about Lincecum... Okay, juvenile trolling aside, long-striding pitchers tend to have back and hip problems earlier in their career. That's why Oswalt is breaking down at 34 while Nolan Ryan and Jaime Moyer pitched into their 50's. Lincecum is only a couple of years away from following in Oswalt's footsteps.

  • Yeah, that's not an illegal delivery, he has to use that pitching motion because of his size, and look where it's got him, Two CY Young Awards and one World Series ring. LINCECUM IS THE BEST PITCHER EVER LETS GO GIANTS SF GIANTS

  • It's a long stride for a Little Leaguer. But, every power pitcher in the major league has a stride that seems to pull them off the mound. I know it's natural to go after the back-to-back cy young winner, just like it's natural to blame the homeRun leader for all the steroid use in baseball, but it's not just.

When u blame the best for doing something that everyone else does, doesn't that seem kinda petty and bitter to u?

  • If it was illegal, more managers would be complaining. You're like the only person that thinks it's illegal. Do you think you're the one genius that has finally caught Timmy? Come on, seriously?

  • @cbobcats It technically is illegal, but if the MLB never enforces it. If they do, they will have 1 of the following:

    1. More pitchers injured

    2. Tons of pitchers removed from the league

  • fuck you timmy smokes the competition. CHYEA

  • its not illegal

  • And now he's making Miles take off his headphones 'CAUSE HE'S PITCHIN TOO GOOD.

  • Go Twinkies!

  • I dnt like traditional mechanics thank u tim 4 nt changing shit 2cy youngs equal beast!!!!!

  • @jaharris40 learn some grammar you illiterate fuck

  • saying you can't lose contact with the rubber is like saying you can't pitch if your over 6 feet tall because your stretch gets you closer to the plate...it just doesn't make sense...as long as you start on the rubber you should be allowed to stretch as far as you can...

  • I never really liked having smooth pitching mechanics I just liked pitching whatever felt good.

  • not illegal

  • the only thing illegal about this is the copyright permission sir.

  • Everyone who disliked this video is a Vagina Gnats fan.

  • omg! u have darthvaders lightsaber! how did u get tha.... o wait its just the dislike bar

  • I know this comment is late, but this delivery is legal. It's not borderline, it's not something the umpires ignore. It's legal. That's why nothing is called.

Read rule 8.05(g), then understand what it means. Some think it means that the pivot can't come off the rubber during a delivery. What it actually does is to prohibit faking a pitch while not in contact in order to draw the runner off of the base.

There's a difference between knowing the rules and understanding the rules.

  • that can be considered a balk with runners on because his leg broke the rubber

  • @GSHOCKSWAG34 false

  • Look at tape of any good major leaguer. None of them keep contact with the rubber through their release. No ump is going to call Lincecum because he's a foot and a half in front rather than a foot.

  • not illegal, just a lot of momentum from that bowl packing arm

  • Shut up bitches. It was perfect

  • that by far is one of the most beautiful windups i have ever seen . i kinda pitch like that though.

  • The most dominant delivery in baseball*

    Finest pitcher in baseball

  • Nagative. As long as the back foot is dragging it is legal. Take a look at gils softball if you want to see illegal, the double plant is rediculious.

  • damn everybody makes mistakes he is a good pitcher

  • HIS BACKFOOT SHOULD BE IN CONTACT JUST ABOUT UNTIL THE BALL IS RELEASED.

there is nothing wrong with hiding the ball.. but you can't jump.. Lincecum essentially LEAPED towards home plate... WRONG

  • Damn, that is one filthy delivery. Now I see why he's called "The Freak".

  • BULL CRAP. thats just his style

  • @crackerjackalpha55 you can't have a "style" if it violates the rules. This pitch is borderline illegal.

  • @ScottJ794 How is it violating the rules? He started his windup on the rubber, made a motion towards home, delivered the ball. Yeah his arm was lagging in the delivery, so? If his arm is on time none of you are even saying it's illegal. I see no rule saying he can't do this in the MLB Official Rules for Pitchers

  • @sdub08ballplyr if I remember correctly, I think I said it was borderline. As we all know, in baseball, it's legal as long as the umps don't call you on it....Andy Pettitte's "balk" pick off move is another example of borderline.

  • what is an illegal delivery???????????? you should be allowed to pitch it how you want to as long as its not involving some ridiculous and distacting dance.

  • i noticed that roughly 90% of the time when a hitter got rung and bitched about it he was dead wrong ( to spoiled with genorious calls). at the series the blues got better those geniouses discovered that 99% of either way low strikes were actually strikes guess they were told to call the low strike. my point is even if a blue misses a corner or up and down by an inch or two the batter can still hit that pitch but a pitcher just has to sit and take it.

  • yeah whatever baseball is full of gray areas the worst is that umpires have the misconception of their own strike zone. thats some bullshit cause it causes questions of everything from game fixing to favoritism. i noticed that nomatter what selig says the plate umps are some of the worst officials in pro sports. tbs had the kzone up every pitch and it was quite clear the blues blew 25-35 % of close calls particularly the low strike. and inside corner calls poorly in fav of the hitter. cont

  • same thing with justin verlander. he is easily further off than linceCUM. it shouldnt be illegal because its not gonna change.

  • It's not illegal to come off the mound when your in your wind up, you just can't start with your foot off the rubber. I play junior college baseball, so im not some guy who doesnt know about it haha. I guarantee 99% of the major league pitchers back foot leaves the rubber during their motion. that's having good mechanics

  • Oh I see what you're trying to show

It should technically be called a balk, but since it is his normal windup and it does not provide advantage in even a miniscule way, it's not called

Or else he'd have to change he's entire motion

It's kind of like Kershaw when he turns and resets his hands a few times behind his head before pitching

    Kershaw>Lincecum

  • While official baseball rules do state that if a pitch is delivered AFTER the pitcher steps off, it presents no real advantage to the pitcher or disadvantage to the batter. It's a rule that is never enforced

  • k no

  • every pitcher does that

  • So that's how a guy who only weighs 165lbs can throw a 100 mph fastball.

  • it's illegal because he smokes marijuana. shame on him.

  • Baseball rules do state that if the pitcher's foot leaves the rubber before he throws, it's a balk. That being said, the reason it's never called on Tim is because it doesnt add any extra deception nor does it provide him any unfair advantage. In my opinion, this guy is the best strikeout pitcher since Nolan Ryan. I'm not even a Giants fan, but I love watching this guy pitch.

  • is it illegal because it produces to much BA results?

  • @MexicanOFChicago sounds like something brian wilson would say

  • Dont say his delivery is illegle, your just jealous you cant dominate like he can.

  • not illegal its called triple extension totally legal and is a GOOD THING as a pitcher.

  • haha i wasnt trying to be rude and call u a dumbass..but i will anyways your a dumbass

  • are you a dee dee dee. That is the goal of a pitcher. You want to shorten the distance from the mound to home plate as much as you can. Its called good mechanics. More momentum with the legs less stress on the arm

  • @fcfromsc "dee dee dee?" what are you 12? grow the fuck up kid

  • press 8 to c him jack off haha

  • its within the stride, try striding with that much force and tourque while keeping a stationary back leg.. good luck picking up a pencil when your 30... to even say anything about his delivery is illegal is asanine... like the guy at the bottom said.. the rubber is a launchpad hence why there is a mound and rubber to push off of... cheese and rice people...

  • GO SF GIANTS!! Lincecum has the best motion ever. And how else can you throw a ball off of a mound at that force without dragging the foot before releasing? Your arm would break if you tried otherwise!

  • @ahtartersauce101 fuck giants.

  • i think back foot should remain on rubber until lead foot is touching the ground bc on second glance it seems like an unfair advantage.. idk about cheating though

  • look at any pitcher in slow motion, ex) trevor bauer, tim collins, even guys with more generic types of motions like justin verlander and cliff lee..they all hav foot drag before the ball is released..lincecum just happens to do it in a more drastic way

  • It dosnt really matter how much he cuts down the distance to home plate. Thats HIS stride and he is very successful with it.

  • Sorry for the debate this caused. I posted it to illustrate a point in a discussion I was having. The debate is whether a genuine effort at keeping contact with the rubber through a pitcher's delivery should be enforced. Long striders like Lincecum cut the distance to home plate down to about 57 feet by the time he delivers. The rule is written with lots of gray area.

  • @thyrl BIG DEAL OUT OF NOTHING.

  • @thyrl Thats a very valid point coming from a pitcher thats genius on his part use those legs buddy

  • @thyrl all the rule states is that the rubber has to be 60'6" away from home plate. figure it out.

  • @thyrl thats how every pitcher in the league throws... pitchers have to start their delivery with a toe on the rubber, but most have their foot off the ground and all have their foot off the rubber at their release point.

  • @thyrl its called a drag line u dumbass

every pitcher does it if they want any motion to the plate

you obviously have neveer played baseball let alone pitched

  • @thyrl So, Roy Halladay is 6' 6"... you think he's not releasing from 57? Give the guy some credit, he's found a way to pitch and be effective. If the league wants to clarify the rule and change the way Timmy pitches, rest assured they will.

  • @thyrl ermm, actually they cut it down to about 51-52 ft. Nolan Ryan had about as large a stride as there ever was. 7-8 ft. Add his hand getting out infront & its about 9 ft. It's a mechanic, not a rule. Tom House does studies on biomechanics & what not that make your brain hurt. One stat that is just mindboggling is every pitcher that's heel lifted off the ground just before foot strike dominated for the pitchers of their era. It adds 1-2 feet to their stride, & 3-6 mph in reaction time.

  • @thyrl no pitcher keeps his foot on the rubber through their pitchng motion

  • @thyrl Every pitcher in game comes off the rubber during their pitching stride. He did nothing wrong. He has one of the sickest arms in baseballs.

  • nothing is illegal in this video even is anything was it wouldn't effect anything because no one was on base. Some say that the foot drag well if that is illegal then how the hell would Lincecum still be in the MLB? He always drags his foot it's part of his mechanics he uses the rubber not only as a starting point but as a lunch pad. Myth Busted

  • The video's obviously about the foot drag, but I doubt it's illegal.. somebody would've said something by now.

  • his foot drags way off the rubber but im not sure if thats illegal

  • how is this illegal?

  • @iriefuse024 i guess something with showing the ball i dono thats all i can get out of it

  • @iriefuse024 it might be at :10 . see how his arm kinda bounces off his side.
