Try to imagine master of puppets with a ukulele and youll see what I mean. i do agree with you 100% though, like marty says people should try to explore outside of the black and grey box that is metal.

Its been done, search Master of Puppets Smooth Jazz, and watch that video. I like when one extreme meets the other because the contrasting dynamics interest, and entertain me.

Dave's an awesome guy. He let one of my guitar students hang out for a while on their tour bus after one of their shows. He told me Dave is one of the most down to earth cool dudes he's ever met. Didnt talk down to him at all. Really valued my student's opinion. I believe both what my student told me and what Dave says in this interview.
Well let's be honest. Marty left and Megadeth went back to their roots. The last couple albums have flat ripped. That follows what Dave Mustaine says was the issue more than Marty's story.
Marty was the first to ever "quit" Megadeth. I'm sure there's some residual resentment from Dave. However, from most of the accounts at the time, Dave was FULLY behind Risk because he was still competing with Metalica and quite frankly was giving their new manager too much control of the direction of their music.
It's funny to hear Dave's story here because it is contradictory to other stories about why Marty left. If i'm not mistaken, Ellefson said in the Behind The Music that Marty left because he didn't like the new direction the music was going, risk was a total failure, and he wanted to play more than metal.
Marty Friedman is purely a musician he wants to learn how to play everything he wants to learn how to do everything on the guitar. Dave Mustaine is my idol as well but he wants to play metal not anything else. I disagree that Megadeth is a pop metal band Risk... I guess. But a great album nonetheless. It sounds to me like Dave is bitter about Marty leaving.

No matter what anybody says....all the most memorable and greatest solos in the history of megadeth have all been played by marty friedman....his solos are memorable.....memorable being the key word...his solos are easily recognizeable....his style is unique and great...exotic....poland and yung are ok, but they are no marty friedman....well, that's my opinion anyways.

The best megadeth material was written on the first 2 albums before friedman. THe best megadeth solo is Looking Down the Cross' end solo and that is all mustaine.

Well, as great of a guitarist Marty was, his vision of what Megadeth should be was pretty misguided, and Dave knew it. Look at the musical directions taken by both Dave and Marty since the latter's departure from Megadeth; one is taking Megadeth back to their roots, the other's playing pop with some chick in Japan. Now you can throw in the argument that "Marty played on Rust In Peace" but the fact of the matter is, Dave and Junior already had that album written before Marty even joined the band.
I'll give him that. I mean, I know the guy can play. I just didn't necessarily agree with his musical direction towards the end of his tenure in Megadeth.

To each their own, but those last two records were a bit lackluster in terms of songcrafting and structure. Sure one can argue they were a bit better than Risk and more grounded in traditional Megadeth sound, but even live they lack the intensity that they had with Ellefson. Plus their missing that integral robust bass tone that Ellefson supplied.

Dave's an awesome guy. He let one of my guitar students hang out for a while on their tour bus after one of their shows. He told me Dave is one of the most down to earth cool dudes he's ever met. Didnt talk down to him at all. Really valued my student's opinion. I believe both what my student told me and what Dave says in this interview.

Well let's be honest. Marty left and Megadeth went back to their roots. The last couple albums have flat ripped. That follows what Dave Mustaine says was the issue more than Marty's story.

Marty was the first to ever "quit" Megadeth. I'm sure there's some residual resentment from Dave. However, from most of the accounts at the time, Dave was FULLY behind Risk because he was still competing with Metalica and quite frankly was giving their new manager too much control of the direction of their music.

It's funny to hear Dave's story here because it is contradictory to other stories about why Marty left. If i'm not mistaken, Ellefson said in the Behind The Music that Marty left because he didn't like the new direction the music was going, risk was a total failure, and he wanted to play more than metal.

Marty Friedman is purely a musician he wants to learn how to play everything he wants to learn how to do everything on the guitar. Dave Mustaine is my idol as well but he wants to play metal not anything else. I disagree that Megadeth is a pop metal band Risk... I guess. But a great album nonetheless. It sounds to me like Dave is bitter about Marty leaving.

Dave used to be my hero for years... But lately, the more he talks, the less respect I have for him.
Constanly bragging about being #1 in metal, etc. but now makes Marty take his falls?? Marty didn't write Risk, he contributed. Dave was proud of The Doctor is Calling in '99 - said it was supposed to be ATLM2, but now that he's ashamed of Risk, he blames Marty.

Dave has always been an exceedingly arrogant guy and while I can see why the rift emerge between him and Marty. The lack of respect is disappointing. The height of the band was a big part due to Marty and when he left, the music fell off big time. Marty is a musician who is constantly expanind, while Mustaine has only one niche to hold to. Megadeth is great band, but their time came and went.

No matter what anybody says....all the most memorable and greatest solos in the history of megadeth have all been played by marty friedman....his solos are memorable.....memorable being the key word...his solos are easily recognizeable....his style is unique and great...exotic....poland and yung are ok, but they are no marty friedman....well, that's my opinion anyways.

The best megadeth material was written on the first 2 albums before friedman. THe best megadeth solo is Looking Down the Cross' end solo and that is all mustaine.

Platinum selling like they were before Marty joined... where were you guys before the Rust In Peace line-up...or specifically Countdown To Extinction?? You guys either don't remember or you weren't around... Megadeth was already well established before Friedman came onboard. Marty is lucky Dave plucked him out of obscurity and saved him from being yet another Shrapnel shredder from the 80's that no one really cares about.
Megadeth got huger in the 90's because of Dave's songwriting not solos.

I know that you mean tornado of souls, but that's not the only solo. Marty made the bests solos in Megadeth. Marty really changed the technic of Megadeth making the bests solos. That's why Megadeth had better solos than MetallicA beacuse of him(Marty). So really what? Friedman still wrote the most melodic solos and gave them a more signature and very different brand, instead of just another mediocre shred guitarist. I mean when you're done, you're done, and it doesn't surprise me that Mustaine doesn't understand that, but it's still pretty fucked up for him to just blast Marty, especially considering Marty never seems to say anything bad about anyone.

Well, as great of a guitarist Marty was, his vision of what Megadeth should be was pretty misguided, and Dave knew it. Look at the musical directions taken by both Dave and Marty since the latter's departure from Megadeth; one is taking Megadeth back to their roots, the other's playing pop with some chick in Japan. Now you can throw in the argument that "Marty played on Rust In Peace" but the fact of the matter is, Dave and Junior already had that album written before Marty even joined the band.

To each their own, but those last two records were a bit lackluster in terms of songcrafting and structure. Sure one can argue they were a bit better than Risk and more grounded in traditional Megadeth sound, but even live they lack the intensity that they had with Ellefson. Plus their missing that integral robust bass tone that Ellefson supplied.
