I don't want to impose my opinion unreasonably, I just want to understand others and be understood hopefully. Def Tech, our bros sing about that in their song "power in the music"...'let's accept our differences each other'. I'm pretty pleased both your guys honest opinions which could make things controversial but also root for mutual understanding. I think that's quite meaningful way to interact through modern technology.

@yuta7468627 @yuta7468627 thank you for your understanding and acceptance :) I believe people are justified in taking pride in their personal beliefs. which is why it bothers me so to hear the SGI constantly being called a cult. As a member myself, I think the least I can do to rectify this is by explaining the history of SGI. I don't want people to misunderstand us thinking we are isolationists when our organization exists for the welfare of humanity.

It is an organization of people dedicated to the betterment of society based on buddhist ideals of respect for human life and dignity. there is no reason why it should be considered bad when every country grants people the right to choose their own religion and create their own religious groups.

@tokumas the organization was formed in Japan shortly after WWII by Tsunasaburo Makiguchi, an educator who had remonstrated against the state imposed Shinto religion which commanded Japanese citizens to sacrifice their lives in the war to protect the dignity of their emperor. Mr.Makiguchi was against war because it led to loss of precious life. He was imprisoned for his beliefs as an enemy of the state. that is probably why it is still looked upon with suspicion.

@vanalika Shintoism isn't a cult religion at least and it's not a cause of war. The cause of WW2 is based on practical reason such as shortage of foods and the threat of Western countries. And the totalistic thoughs of imperialism that government had was also a cause of it. Soka is also pretty much totalistic and you can find similarity to autocrats. Besides, it became a religion to support old North Korea and to spoil Japanese. it's regarded as a dangerous religion in Japan.

@tokumas I didn't say Shintoism is a cult, I said it was imposed by the state. if u read its history you will see that it encouraged people to sacrifice their lives to protect the emperor. war is always driven by the reasons you mentioned but shintoism supported it. If you're really interested in knowing the philosophy of the SGI I suggest you read "The human revolution" by Tsunesaburo Makiguchi. that explains in detail why SGI opposed the war, its reasons weren't political but humanitarian.

@vanalika Nah ah, it is just your opinion. you should go check wikipedia to find out what it is described about Shinto and Soka at least. Shintoism is a generous thought and it's not even an organization or a religion. The belief is quite simple like "there are gods in every nature, there are gods of ocean, forest, sun...etc, so appreciate them" that's it. No, People do not be involved with the organization. Never! You don't know how many people have had a trouble with their pushy inducement.

@vanalika Besides, in the WW2, many ordinary Japanese people were opposed to the war. There are many of humanitarians like Akiko Yosano. However, intellectuals also knew they had to protect the nation from an invasion of other strong Western countries and they needed more lands to strength the country. They fought for protecting Japan and Japanese from being a colony of Western Countries. Do you know why the emperor and the army is blamed ? It is simply just because they lost the war.

@tokumas Sorry interrupting your guys' discussion, I think the justification of either Shintoism or SGI is pretty controversial topic to decide which is black or white...since religion itself change its practical function based on interpretation. Even Buddhism which have its basis on nonviolent and humanitarian life-protecting tenets...so as tokumas said, their preaching could be felt really pushy and imposing because of blind belief among some believers.

They are just two sides of the same coin...to make peaceful world, I believe we need to see both sides. People have opinions because they believe that's true. @vanalika I also know somebody who runs, talks, cares and tries anything they can for other suffering people. Importance is not whether they are member of SGI or any other religious groups but their beliefs which contribute to peaceful society.

That's also buddha's saying that there is no purity. As Def Tech sings in their song "Cancion de la expancio'n", there are always fights between justice and injustice everywhere no matter what is visible or invisible.
