It must have been windy if you landed on 21. You were sitting ont he right side because after you land you can see Hamilton Aviation, the old terminal (3 large hangars) and Pima college. Hope you had fun.
well im not an expert on wind patterns but i know that the "active runway" as its called is whatever runway points most into the direction of the wind... so the day i landed here the wind must have been coming from approximately the SSW... not sure if that is against the prevailing wind patterns of the area
but yeah you may be right cause runway 3/21 here is the shortest of the three runways only 7000 feet or so (but certainly long enough to land an MD-80)
The main runway at Tucson is 11L. It sits about 90 degrees from 3/21. That's why it's the crosswind runway. Runway 11R is shorter but can only be used by smaller general aviation aircraft. Usually the crosswind has to be greater then 15 knots before they switch to 21 as the active runway.
well dont get me wrong there is a chance that perhaps i was wrong about this being runway 21 but i mean the flight originated at O'Hare and from this video you can tell the plane didn't bank very much indicating it flew straight in (as from Chicago its a mostly southwest-bound flight)
No, you are right. You landed on 21. From were you started filming it looks like you came through rettington pass, over the top of davis monthon (if you were sitting on the left side of the plane you would of had a nice view of the boneyard below), and straight in on 21.
Nice L-1011.

I have never arrived in Tucson during the day. Pretty cool. I heard a plane almost hit Mt. Lemmon at night. Pretty scary.
