I think the best way to honor the dead is to remember who they were as people. Everyone knows who Steve Jobs was, but what was he really like? What was his favorite movie? Band? What flavor of bubblegum did he like? Could he hold his breath for over two minutes? I know I'll never be famous, and it scared me shitless thinking about how my name wouldn't be in the history books for all to remember, I'd be forgotten forever, but then I realized I'd just be ink on a page. Nothing more, nothing less.
@Aulmeyda your friends will remember who you were, your wife or husband or partner will remember who you were, your kids or your friends kids will. they may even tell thier kids and thier kids friends of you one day in a story or conversation. it may not be everlasting like pen and ink has the capability to be, but the memory of you, of all of us will go on after we die. that you can be sure of.
@idiotkrati Yes. Meditate for 1 minute, next day, two minutes, etc. The pain of past experiences will come rushing in, let them go, and feel something again.
It's interesting that we don't have a designated holiday to visit grave sites and appreciate our dead loved ones, when there's MANY different cultures that do. I wonder if it's because we're raised not to mourn too long on death and move on or if it's because we're too lazy to even bother traveling to the grave sites.
one of my dad's friends is really into the idea of the singularity. i don't know a lot about it but it involves the idea that some day science will advance enough that every one stops dying. i wonder what a would like that would be like. you know how people would change if inevitable death wasn't looming in the background.
I've made it a point to try not to die stupidly because if there is an after life it'd be kind of a drag to spend eternity feelling like kind of a dumbshit.
A friend of mine died recently, and death has been weighing on my mind a lot. I don't believe in an afterlife, so the idea that one day I will no longer be really started to bother me. I got all extisintial and mopey, wondering what it was all for, and this really grounded me. Making me go from, I'm gonn die anyway whats the point, to wow I have this time, I should fucking use it
im only 15 but i can tell u this when ever i think about death i allways say to myself hoping God can here " when im older il be a better person because il have more freedom " and i say this because when ur a kid and u see some homeless guy u cant realy do much and that goes with every situation like this . weather its human or animal like stray dogs i wish i could help but im just a kid the end
@scoman I find Holden Caufield as a character in which people can see part of themselves as and I respect your opinion that you do not like him. and as well @rcatstott awesome comparison. I am a huge fan of Death Note.
once your born you begin to slowly die, and if its because of this torture we call a life ends itself or something else interfeers and ends it for you either way you cant say much of it. and not just because you just died.... just be sure not to have anything important left to do on earth or you will more likeley become a ghost....and well if you dont get that important thing done then your just going to float in space long after earth is gone....just existing...sorta

@MrSierra125 dont worry, keep wondering around this realm of youtube and you may seem to find some more well thought and possible over detailed comments.
lying down & looking @ the trees is where its at. who the hell knows if we do life right? i don't think there is a game plan & the media, religion will tell you what you should be doing to be happy but me, im happy just spending time hanging out doing what i want & loving my dogs who i feel are here in their life & im just glad we can share our life's.
I think of Life as a theory, and a theory can only ever be proved wrong. we disprove it by living, because by living we die. Hence Death proves Life, it proves we ever lived at all. Those who die are actually lucky, in a way. Many things don't get to live. Whole galaxies could be absent of life. When you look at pollution, torture, war, consumerism this could be a good thing but I sometimes think existence is based on comprehension, so its a bit unfair. If existence is unfair, life must be too.
I wonder what the people who are examples on 1000 ways to die feel like, knowing that they died for the stupidest reasons. Death by helium, death by paintball gun, death by porn avalanche, death by magic trick malfunction, death by plant, and, my favorite, death by masturbation with a carrot.
Haha Sixx, Mustaine, and Slash. Great likenesses, Lev! As usual, your work is something to ponder and that I can relate to. I'm a tremendous fan, and this is one of my favorite videos of yours. Keep up the amazing work!
Wow, i really love and agree with the ending there with the kids. Wisdom on youtube right here, folks. Great vids man, you are without a doubt my favourite channel!
Great videos, but I completely disagree with the fatalist point of view, it's just not me. If you're not receiving pleasure from life, what is the point of living?
if you have no goal in this world, plant tree in barren lands. out of 1mln seeds im sure a good 200 trees make a nice park for people and the atmosphere to appreciate :))
2:04, the Hobo at the right looks like he has devil-horns, like he's a demon or something. I would have thought if the devil lived on earth he would be a tv producer or malware programmer.
We will live forever, as long as the laws of energy can not be destroyed, only transferred we, our bodies shall forever be in existence, only separated.
It's sad the "I saw two kids walking through the cemetary" line immediately made me start anticipating the "And they started kicking over the gravestones" line or "They made their dog pee on one" line.
@TheThevideoguy I'm going to be honest and say that I don't find that comperison an endearment. I don't like Holden Caufield and I hope he finds a painful firery grave in hell. But I do agree with your sense of endearment, and hope that you never make that comparison again.

If you want to know what death might be like, without dying, try DMT. It's the chemical that is released when your body thinks it's going to die. It is also released every night when you sleep and causes us to dream, we just tend to forget most of our dreams, so we usually don't remember any of the weird out of body dream stuff...Completely natural and considered safe, as long as you aren't driving...
Raising kids is okay until they scream that they hate you, turn their room into the city dump, steal, smuggle Zima & Winstons into their rooms, hitchhike to Myrtle beach, forge your checks, refuse to lift a finger to help, cuss like Pat Robertson when he thinks the mike is switched off, put a huge dent in the new washer using her sister's head, joyride in your car and crash it or demolish the front door because she forgot her key.
@ClearPee While my friend, I do recognize that what he says has been said millions of times, I would like to respectfully disagree : /... In my opinon, it is genius and humility to take an advanced object, like the concept of death, having absolutely NO feeling of superiority, and expanding on that subject. Many people who have said what Lev has said were probably not doing it for the hell of it like Lev does.. they were most likely enticed by money, power, or some other form of acknowledgment
You are a wise young man. I say "young man" with confidence, because odds are you ARE younger than me. As one closer to "the jumping off place" than you, I accept that death is a part of life, and all things work out as they should. I have embraced the idea that I have been privileged to be a part of the cosmos, and accept life one day at a time.
"If I was dying, I doubt I would be concerned that I didn't earn enough money, status, or power, but I do think I'd be annoyed that I didn't spend enough time lying down in the park looking at trees." These videos never cease to amaze me by things I've thought but never mentally articulated.
why do you think they were doing a better job at the cemetery than you? i just realised your problem is that you idolise childhood and false innocence when the only real innocence is lack of guilt which one brings upon oneself by making videos about sex!!!!!!!
@Jex134 No.. I just think he has a life. I think its respectful to let subscribers know it might be a month before a new thing will be out, but this is Lev and we love him for who he is..
Did someone think that maybe there is someone thinking about someone like you at the same time that you are thinking someone like him/her?. Why do i get that sensation each time i watch one of your videos?..
@SIDETRACKEDpenguin yeah that was what i was wondering, but maybe it has to do with the "observations about sex" video...the word sex probably made the recommendations thingy just throw in a few porn vids..the porn vids all have the word sex in them *shrug*
The things I want to do with my life is to fly and keep what and those who I hold dear safe (at any cost), and make them happy. I wanna make them happy like they make me. But I dont feel restricted to only them. :-)
I wanna be a good person for my own sake, its just who I am. Cant help it and feel no need to.
hey lev. great video. every time i watch one of your videos, i really listen to what you say, and prepare my mind and ears for what you might say next. i have definitely thought about some of these things before, but as always, you have brought new thoughts to me. thank you for the thoughts. they help.
u're so insightful! these are some things that many self-obsessed people (on facebook?) don't realise & there they are continuing to try so hard. perhaps they juz want more people to honor them when they're dead but really it doesnt matter since they'd simply be some dead thing under one of those slabs of stone & wouldnt know how hard their friends cried. the part about doing good deeds after having had a brush with death is so true. hypocrites. glad to know u hang out at cemeteries, i do too (:
I like very much the ending of this video. From what i understood, he's wondering how to properly honour the dead, and by seeing the kids having a good time, he realizes that is the best way to do it. The best way to honor the dead is to enjoy life yourself as much as you can until you join them. That was really profound!
i just discovered that watching one of ur videos kind of gets my mind moving in a philosophical sense so if i watch one of them before writing a paper...i will write a pretty boss paper...my teacher has been loving my lately and i would to thank you!!
hm, i feel the same way about it when younger people die. like the norway shootings, i felt like they had their whole lives in front of them, and they had dreams and friends and families and things they wanted to do, and they never even saw it coming.
A close friend of mine died from illness a few days ago. In a month, I'm an adult. And I'm realizing... I have no idea how to deal with death. In so many other ways, we figure out how to fake maturity with ease. And of course we never really learn how to die ourselves, no chance to practice for it. But I'm entirely unprepared for this.
to calm myself i always think about where i was and what i felt before i was born. so if there is no afterlife it won't be so frightening cause i didn't feel bad before i was born.

It gives you the sense that we will all be forgotten by future generations, all of our hopes and dreams, our influences on the world forgotten.
However, we, each and every single one of us is made up of matter that has existed since the big band, billions of years old we are!
To make one feels as though all is not lost, our bodies at death shall be recycled and matter contributed back to the universe.

"If I was dying, I doubt I would be concerned that I didn't earn enough money, status, or power, but I do think I'd be annoyed that I didn't spend enough time lying down in the park looking at trees." These videos never cease to amaze me by things I've thought but never mentally articulated.

@villainousturtle That is the essence of art. It makes us think out loud.
Which is why I really love these videos.
keenfrizzle 2 months ago
why do you think they were doing a better job at the cemetery than you? i just realised your problem is that you idolise childhood and false innocence when the only real innocence is lack of guilt which one brings upon oneself by making videos about sex!!!!!!!

lotrwalrus 3 months ago
@lotrwalrus writes normally...edits the video and inverts it horizontally
Vip3rC4in0022 3 months ago
@lotrwalrus I'm pretty sure he edits the video to mirror side.

Why do i get that sensation each time i watch one of your videos?..
excuse me for my english, i'm not good at it

why is there porn on the suggestions?
SIDETRACKEDpenguin 3 months ago
@SIDETRACKEDpenguin yeah that was what i was wondering, but maybe it has to do with the "observations about sex" video...the word sex probably made the recommendations thingy just throw in a few porn vids..the porn vids all have the word sex in them *shrug*

The things I want to do with my life is to fly and keep what and those who I hold dear safe (at any cost), and make them happy. I wanna make them happy like they make me. But I dont feel restricted to only them. :-)
I wanna be a good person for my own sake, its just who I am. Cant help it and feel no need to.

Nikki Sixx, Dave Mustaine and Slash? I wasn't aware Dave Mustaine O.D.'d or had a near-death experience.
That's who they look like, anyway.

hey lev. great video. every time i watch one of your videos, i really listen to what you say, and prepare my mind and ears for what you might say next. i have definitely thought about some of these things before, but as always, you have brought new thoughts to me. thank you for the thoughts. they help.

u're so insightful! these are some things that many self-obsessed people (on facebook?) don't realise & there they are continuing to try so hard. perhaps they juz want more people to honor them when they're dead but really it doesnt matter since they'd simply be some dead thing under one of those slabs of stone & wouldnt know how hard their friends cried. the part about doing good deeds after having had a brush with death is so true. hypocrites. glad to know u hang out at cemeteries, i do too (:

Wow, charlieissocoollike watches Lev's videos? I've just gained so much respect for Charlie.
xxNightingalexx 3 months ago
I like very much the ending of this video. From what i understood, he's wondering how to properly honour the dead, and by seeing the kids having a good time, he realizes that is the best way to do it. The best way to honor the dead is to enjoy life yourself as much as you can until you join them. That was really profound!

Life is just a bunch of shitty things... with some rainbows once in a while if you're lucky. We're pretending to know it all but we know nothing.
And then you die.

i think everything Lev says is words of wisdom, but this video I agree with in every way.

hm, i feel the same way about it when younger people die. like the norway shootings, i felt like they had their whole lives in front of them, and they had dreams and friends and families and things they wanted to do, and they never even saw it coming.
