I stopped tuning in after Bev and Geoff went, they were passionate about their jobs and were excellent presenters. I'm in my twenty's and can't stand them two that present it now. 6:30pm was something to look forward to, and you always looked forward to the bit of banter at the end. I remember bill boards around town with Bev and Giles on. You cenrtainly couldn't advertise the programme now with them two boring fakers running the show.
What a bad mistake by the BBC, now with ITV New's crap design I would be watching South East today everyday, but now looks like the simpsons will be on at 6.30
I see your point, however it would have been better if South East Today did a slow transition to gauge viewer reaction, similar to how Meridian interchange the presenters throughout the week.
That kind of did happen. Rob Smith and Polly Evans had been covering shifts on the main 6:30 programme for a number of years anyway. The bosses knew they could handle it and regular viewers already knew them, its not like they came from a different sub region as happened on the other side.
I moved away from Kent in 2004 and have only managed to catch up with South East Today occassionally. I was stunned today to see that both Beverley Thompson AND Geoff Clark have left the programme. They were a great team and will be missed very much. Does anyone know exactly what happened to them? Reading jacosia's comments below, were they forced to leave?

It's worth giving South East Today a chance. Judge it in six months time when the presenters and new ideas have settled in.
