@dortruzman Because a rollercoaster works on momentum. It doesn't have an engine, it's running on the momentum it builds from the first hill. That's why the first hill in a coaster is usually the largest, and that's why there are usually chains of some kind to pull you to the top of it. On a coster like Kingda-Ka or Top Thrill Dragster, there is a hydraulic system that shoots the train off to give it enough momentum to climb the hill. You can't just stop it at the top whenever you want.
