  • i know exactly what that is mate its the top of the burner for an old whale oil lantern if i can find some ill put up pics to show you

  • @henshooten

Hey that sounds realistic and some pics would be most interesting if you can mate, thanks : )

  • @magpie307 cant seem to send pics so ill explain best i can ,the part is called the top but is actually the err middle of it ,the 3 legs hold a glass funnel (like a huricane lamp) and the base part (where the bump is on the bottom of the part you have ) usually has a vase like base for decoration, a small burner (usually whale oil) was placed onto the ceramic disk ,basically rendering the flame wind proof,so i suppose its one of the first safety lamps hope that helps mate

That,s Interesting, bearing in mind this is ceramic but if you could find some images on this item, would be most interesting as I've searched everywhere for some sort of clue as to what this might have been used for. Thanks for your interest.

  • @magpie307

I agree with superdave, it's part of an automobile engine thermostat. I learned the hard way that you can't change a thermostat without in winter without chancing cracking the ceramic cover.

  • @magpie307

im just speculating cause i play too much video games and have a wild imagination... but perhaps its the top of a landmine that blew up. Probably unlikely since it would be destroyed... but i woke up today with the intention to set my mark on the world. And it shall be this comment.

  • @hatsan38
