  • I think the Shrek originally was John Cale's version of Leonard Cohen's "Canada's Best Song of the Century", and in the credits they listed it as Jeff Buckley, who had recorded too. Later Jeff Buckley's version was substituted in time for the broadcast premier. After Buckley's death Rufus Wainwright recorded this version.

  • this is the wrong version of the song

  • Probably the best scene in the entire film.

  • Thumbs up if you'll be watching this in 2012

  • Good song but that dang 240p

  • my 5th grade teacher sung this at my school

  • Shrek is such a good film and this song gives Shrek an extra + ;-)

  • not the one i reameber this isnt deep

  • How in the heck did they get rufus wainwright on this soundtrack? What happened to John Cale? Is the version with John Cale on here anywhere?

  • song is cool

  • best version of this song

  • its john cale in the movie! but i love the song either way and shrek is awsome :D

  • i still remeber watching this movie when i was a kid for the first time when it came out :) i heard this song for the first time and i fell in love with it

  • AR, man!

  • What movie was this from? The first?

  • @confused351 Yes. The first.

  • this song is sooon sad

  • I so want this played at my funeral. :(

  • nope, guys. this one is by Rufus Wainwright.

  • still not the right one, im looking for the original thats sung by deep voice dude, not this stammering coarse throat piece of shit

  • after listening to other versions of this song, i realised how fast this version was

  • @89Coa its the one by Jeff Buckely.

  • i hate this version. Where's the fucking original from Shrek?!

  • if i remember correctly

the singer for this song in the movie had a quite darker voice, or am i just being idiotic?

  • @lotten16 Nope, you're not idiotic, I wondered that myself actually. This song is sung by Rufus Wainwright, and if I remember correctly, they used the John Cale version in the movie, but they put Rufus' version on the Shrek soundtrack. Search 'Hallelujah John Cale' on Youtube, I believe that's the song your thinking of.

  • I've heard there was a secret chrod

That David played and it pleased the Lord

But you don'y really care of rmusic, do you?

It goes like this the fourth the fith

The minor fall the major lift

    The baffled king composing

    Hallelujah

    Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Haleluuu-uuuu-ujah

    ...

  • i know this song is all sad and everything, and it brings bad memories, or good, i don't know, im babbiling, but omg,

SHREK LOOKS LIKE MY DAD...SO CRAZY...seriously

  • i cried during this scene when i first saw it

  • @thecommenter18 me too!

  • this isnt the oringinal song from the movie :(

  • This made me laugh when I pictured Myles singing and Shrek lip sinking to it SashaDK you know how this would be done. Dont you?a#1fan81jewels Myles KennedyArmy<3<3<3

  • This is like when the kids between 1-3 years old and the santa claus is coming! :D

  • this scene is like the saddest scene in the movie :( the saddest part is 1:54 - 2:05 :'(

  • C'est trop magnifique a se moment du film ♥

  • beautiful music

  • not going to lie, i really DON'T like this cover.

K.D. lang sings it so much better, this cover is almost painful to listen to.

still an awesome, touching song, but not this cover.

  • @toastmaster425

The guy that wrote the song, Leonard Cohen, also recorded it. It's different also. The best cover was Lee Dewyze on American Idol. I think it won American Idol for him.

  • @toastmaster425 I know what you mean it's always painful to listen to, but it's so beautiful..............

  • a beautiful song, and I'm going to have to watch Shrek!

  • @Mayerling52

There are more good songs in those movies also. I like "I'm A Believer" by Smash Mouth written by Neil Diamond a LONG time ago!

  • @twinkie57401 Erm...correct me if im wrong. I thought I'm A Believer was created by The Monkeys?

  • @futuramaman07

They did record it Futura! But Neil Diamond wrote it and the Monkees got rich off it! So Neil Diamond recorded it himself also! And Smashmouth sang it in Shrek. And all three versions are VERY close!

  • Cool first comment in a month!

  • excuse me guys but i never understood what does hallelujah exactly mean? can anyone tell me?

  • @brit2sara3 I'm no expert.

Hallelujah is a Hebrew word meaning "Praise Yahweh". Yahweh is the personal name of God in the Hebrew Bible. So really it's just a way to say praise god, today it seems the word is also used to thank God, or just show relief or gratitude

  • @BlackChinca

    Tnx alot

  • @brit2sara3 It just is a word that means "praise to Yahweh(Hebrew word for God)" This word was used in many Hymns/Psalms.

  • Anyone else feel sad when they see dragon crying crying?

  • i love this song plzz check out our videos plzz thnxz

  • What iss this fuckin shit who ever sing this song fucked it up the guy sucks at this song and they should have done the vocie of orignal singer of the song

  • @Varyalover O_______0

  • OK for all those who keep saying that John Cale Sung the version that played in the movie....you are wrong....it was for sure Rufus Wainwright....John Cale's voice is way different to Rufus Wainwright's voice and if you listen closely to the on in the movie to the one on the CD then you will hear it is Actually Rufus Wainwright :D

  • @MadelineBeth13 Wikipedia says that the John Cale version is indeed in the movie, but the soundtrack has the Rufus Wainwright version. o.0 Confusing, eh?

  • OK for all those who keep saying that John Cale Sung the version that played in the movie....you are wrong....it was for sure Rufus Wainwright....John Cale's voice is way different to Rufus Wainwright's voice and if you listen closely to the on in the movie to the one on the CD then you will hear it is Actually Rufus Wainwright :D

  • who is singing it?

  • if from what ive seen is correct, rufas wainwright did a cover of the song and this is his cover

  • It's possible there were synching problems, so they either got a different version, or got John Cale to sing in synch with the scene.

  • Great song, and this scene is, I think, one of the best scenes in an animated film. Just how it transitions from character to character, and then mix in the song and it's a powerful scene.

  • vere very good

  • This is NOT the original from the movie. I would know because I JUST NOW checked.

  • in the movie it was leonard cohen

  • Interestingly Rufus wainwright's version wasn't in the movie. Only the soundtrack. It was John Cale In the Movie, due to some contract issue he couldn't be in the soundtrack, so rufus was asked to sing a similar version.

  • we have to sing this song for school! :)

  • i agree

  • this song is the best part of the movie

  • I loved this scene.
